Is there any way to accelerate the drying/hardening of this filler, as it takes ages, and I'm wanting to crack on whilst I can..

I've had this problem too Andy. You might try gently heating with a hair dryer/ fan heater, or bring the bits into the house for a couple of hours. In the end, I gave up using lightweight filler and now use Ronseal wood filler which is like Plastic Padding for wood. I find that it goes off nice and quickly and sands well. I really don't think that this adds any significant weight to the model, and allows me to get on with the build.

I have a picture on the "Glues I have known" page of my web site.

It only seems to dry quickly when applied thinly.

I found it excellent for filling small dings, but not manly enough for big holes (if you see what I mean.)

Andy, mine goes off in minutes  :o as long as it's no more than about 1/8th inch deep. Try building it up in layers .

Hi Andy, B&Q stock it - the last time I bought some, I got a large tin. Provided all the solvent stays where it should, it'll last for years!

Polyfilla now do an equivalent to Red Devil and the like, which is supposed to be usable in large voids without cracking as it dries. It is around the same price as Deluxe and Red Devil, but frankly, I get good results with the Ronseal, so haven't been tempted as yet.
