Myself and a couple of buddies are going to produce our own DS planks with the epoxy foam cores.

Sicomin - Epoxy Foaming
from sicomin on Vimeo.</p>

Well Steve Hart brought some of this foaming epoxy to check today.

Martin Gay has the Commercial Grade CNC machine ready,  Steve has the Solidworks software ready to roll.

Looking at producing a 60" and a 80" two peice wing.  First Prototype will be a bagged wing over blue foam with the possibility of the following foils  :  PW51, PW98, TP100 or TP50DS

Few possible names are Ridge Scorcher, Backside Burner or Exocet DS.

Watch this space as they maybe available if successful

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Awesome  :af Good luck with your project.

Any more details on the foaming epoxy, in particular cost & quantity?

Well its a joint effort.  Martin and Steve already have experience in producing models.
I've seen a few of Martins latest moulds using various materials and they are very good.

I'm also interested in the building process as well as Chief Test pilot  :af

It'll be interesting to see how it comes along. I wonder if that stuff can be retro-fitted into wings and tail booms to strengthen weakish models?

Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it.
Flying is more difficult there.

Interesting project, looking at the vid it looks easy. Prob for me and probably most others would be having access to a CNC machine to make the molds...lucky bu**ers.
Hope it works out ok. I'll keep watching.

as an example, if i wanted to make a moulded wing but didn't have the facilities to make the cnc mould (but could do everything else), 1/ where can i get a mould made, and 2/ how much is it likely to cost??

i'll probably never do it but its something i have pondered about a few times, always getting stopped at the making the mould point

until the RCMF Fly In!!

Backside Burner
Sounds like the curry I had last night!

The only advice I would offer is to build 'em heavy and make sure you can get a lot more weight in them as ballast. The bagged carbon Sniper http://www.rcspeeds.com/aircraftdetails.aspx?AC=226 (purple one) which Tim built me flies very nicely but I've only managed to get 154 out of it. I think this is because I can only get it up to 56oz. Foamy versions have gone a lot faster simply because they can be ballasted up to the 95oz region.

Go get 'em Dave!

Steve

Design is done in solidworks.

We're just deciding on which foil to use for the prototype PW51 or one of PW specials.   :co

PW106 mate. Slightly more camber, more efficient in a constant turn as per DS. You are not looking for something which is quick in a straight line and has good inverted performance as per PW51. This is Peter Wick's advice in his plank essays. This is very similar to what was used on the Splinter, with a slightly thickened version at the tip.

Hi

Apologies for reserecting an old thread but was reading with interest and wondered how this was going, I'm doing something slightly similar with a pw98 mod sectioned wing - my elevons haven't been cut free from the wing yet so have the option of taking moulds?.

Good luck by the way.
