Zim,

Definitely interested in how our Northern brethren are doing, and it looks like their doing really well. you also seem to have  a good following up there too, we manage 3 flyer's at best but I guess that gives us more stick time.

We have yet to crack the 200mph barrier but a couple of vac bagged 2m models are being worked on as we speak so hopefull we will make some inroads into catching you up speed wise in the not too distant future.

I see that you use both a Prospeed and a Stalker pro radar gun, be interested to know how much better the Stalker is over the prospeed as we have a lot of problems with our prospeed in any sort of damp conditions, which is pretty much every time we have a decent southerly.

Doug

Hey Doug

I've never really noticed that much to be honest mate. Adam, George and I chipped in together to buy our Prospeed, and I've never really paid attention to what the Stalker does. We do notice the rain thing with the Prospeed though - hey ho... All in all though, I'm really happy with our Prospeed - very rarely misses much.

Lol, thanks Zim (I think). Dig the jigsaw colour scheme George  :af

Hi Doug, pleased with my Prospeed but rain can affect readings. I think Deckit's stalker pro handles rain better as it has selectable sensitivity.

BTW Hot Air got a new PB today (194) at RE with the first DS flight of his MCT.  Way to go dude!

Thanks Hobster, thanks Zim

I'm stoked to finally DS my shiny 'new' MCT after carrying it up and down hills for three months chasing the chance. Met Office got the wind wrong so many times it started to really 'p' me off.

Anyhow, thanks to Graham B (Deckit) for radar it was great to experience a new level of aeroplane and know the speed. It flies so beautifully. My Mini Blade got affected by rotors/turbulence which made consistent circuits difficult but the MCT just ploughed straight through anything with little more than a twitch. It's a shame I couldn't get 200 but I will sometime when conditions are right.

The air was very damp with passing drizzle and the drive for some reason was clearly less than the wind strength should have given since Graham's Mini Destiny got stuck in the high 130's (138 top) when only recently he did over 170 at the same spot in less wind...

Huge showers came soon after and by 11:30am we were soaked and headed for the pub for a celebratory pint :)

Yeah it's funny hey, now that we've all got some decent kit and can fly half decent laps the speeds are coming. I'm told that only a few years ago 140 was exciting stuff, now we go home feeling like we didn't quite get things going if we din't clear 200.

Raise your PB, raise your expectations. Bring on some more wind!

No high speeds today.

Expecting rushup to be heaving, but just 5 of us there today. 3 for most the morning.
Couldn't see the hill for fog early on but soon cleared to give a nice days flying. Bit too much west in the wind but we made the most of it.

Not very fast, and you had to work for it.

Thats a shame, you are ment to put it in around the 200 mark NOT when flying a bit of front side action !
If you do go 2.4, i know they are 2.4 friendly as mine uses it...................and mine only crashes due to pilot error !!
Cant recommend 2.4 strongly enough, i know buying rx,s for the fleet can be expensive but i havent had a single glitch since converting.

Hmm 2.4
Controversial, Quite tempted by the hitec arora but not yet convinced, Like the telemetry. But that means new transmitter, new programing. i am a pootaba man, and well a module and receiver would be much cheaper.

That A9 does look sweet. Still haven't picked one up and felt it but whilst it may fees worse than my SX it has to be light years ahead of my 4000's feel.

do you want that boda aerial in tight glider fuses though?

Wills has a Carbon fuse so is not 2.4 friendly. And the new so called 2.4 friendly ones have soo much carbon around the Rx area that you really need the ariels outside the fuse. So may as well have 1 ariel sticking out the back. My new one will be on trusty JR PCM.

I've seen the BODA Tom. It's really not that big. What is interesting though is that the rx's are very slim in footprint as the leads come in from both ends. Quite a clever bit of thinking to slim down the cross sectional size I think.

sounds like it will get very long (57mm plus leads!?).

I don't know how FAAST and Spektrum perform, but with the 2.4ghz I have myself, I have found that it's a lot more tolerant to metal and carbon etc that you might imagine.  I had my reservations at first, but it has exceeded my expectations.

If you have a poo-tab you can get a module for spektrum/frsky/assan/hitec/futaba etc anyway.  There might not be a compelling reason to change over, but you certainly have options, if and when.

Trust me - it's not a biggy. I've had them in my hands.

Bear in mind Scott has one in his D40 - I think that pretty much answers any questions about whether they are too large to install in a 3m mouldie!!

It's not all about the size of the model. 70 odd mm would be too long for some of my models.

optima 9 rx with the servos plugged in is 60mm, its no bigger than the norm, and smaller than quite a few.Like Zim said its gone in a d40 and i wouldnt say there big,I have the two aerials exiting behind the wing, I dont know how it would handle ds speeds though, although range would be less of an issue with ds, just my guess.

Will, I just composed a long description of my MCT FASST setup and other useful findings after many hours of research before ordering my MCT... I went to edit something, pressed the Backspace key and my browser went back to another page and everything I drafted was lost - grrrr!! I don't have time to type it all again. Feel free to give me a call and I will tell you what I know about 2.4 (number by pm). There's a lot of 'mystery' surrounding it but I agree with this quote, it's pretty secure and is the way forward. Never having to fuss about what channel everyone is on is worth it for me alone, never mind the kid in the valley who's just switched on his Birthday Present.

Gulp DS is getting put together for DS instead of racing now. Also looking at a broken pair of mini-blade carbon wings and scheming a fuz.

Or 2 if you can fit them in. Symm of CG.

And if its going to be megga DS, the then tip ballast. Saw a reaper with this at the 60"nats, and Ricks Pole cat has permanent tip ballast (about 100g per tip if I remember correctly).

The wing I have came pre-built and has a ballast tube in it already. I've been thinking about adding some tip ballast and also trying to work out how to get two fat tubes in the fuz (one over the wing and one under). Need to get to B+Q to get some ply. I have also used my old flying fish fin for the fin for the gulp (probably can't call it that anymore $%& )
