Sorry to learn you lost the D80, George.
    Sickening.

Though is DS nonetheless the least expensive thrills with spills activity?

    Sickening.

Man it was a bit. I was on the gun! I just said "sorry george" Put the gun down and went to helo pick up the pieces.
you know how after a while some crashed can be humerous. Not this time.

witnessed 3 now. jools MCT, hobsters MCT and mow this. Never Good.

On a bright side, I think that the model is repairable. There is allot of de lamination, and clean breaks. The spar is broken in 2 places. The Fuz is another issue. the rear of the boom is mashed in an area, but being in kevlar still one piece. Need to think about that.

Sorry to hear about the D80 george, she went in doing something she loved doing at least Cry
I admire anyone who throws over a grands worth of plane down the back knowing that any second it could end in disaster! I have 2-3 planes i would love to try Ds but i would be heartbroken if i smashed any of em to bits, especially as 2 of them would be hard to replace.

    Gutted for you mate.

A sad loss george I'll agree but how do you guys imagine your DS models are going to die?
Surely you are not throwing them down the back expecting them to live forever?
Why do you think that the old DS names are not DS'ing anymore?
There is only so many times you'll bang your head against a wall before you realise it is less painful when you stop.

Enjoy your DS'ing but I've seen neither bait models nor big dogs retire gracefully.

    Your right Andy.
But I guess there is a certain 'grace' about ending your days at 180mph with a sudden impact into the hill...  Evil

At least its only a toy plane, it was alot worse where I used to play...

I think I'll keep banging my head against the wall for a while longer though, just hope the next one lasts a bit longer...

If you going to go, then sliding sideways into the box, bum on fire at 180 mph is the way!

    Hi All

RE on Friday (not had the chance to post yet)

It was a great day for most of us. The forecast was for rain in the afternoon and for the wind to veer towards west - far enough to go outside the range for RE. I think Forbsey was the first up there, and he sat out some heavy hill fog and persistent drizzle. It was still poor when I got up there at about 11am. Craig and Andy, who I met for the first time, were up there by then too. There was only enough cloudbase for foam and it looked like it would be a short lived day, based on the  pessimistic forecast. We all hung about chatting for a while and whilst engaged in geeky aeroplane speak the sky opened up...

Based on the miserable forecast, none of us wasted much time before we got the big stuff in the air. Amazingly the conditions remained quite good for the rest of the day and plenty of decent flying was had by all, until George's prang that is. Really gutted for George. Until that point I was still reeling on a massive high after clearing 200 (203) earlier in the day and after trying again later (with seemingly ambitious hopes of getting nearer to Will's awesome 210), I managed a 196 from Hobster's gun and apparently another 203 from Will's gun, taken from further along the ridge during a top turn. After I landed and walked back to the 'pit', it was all quiet and only Andy was there... When he told me they were all down the back picking up bits of George's D80, my heart sank. It took the high right off the day. It was a sad feeling to be present and I can only imagine how heart broken George is. Sorry George. Looking to the bright side, we all know you'll have something pointy in the air again soon.

    Cheers

It's all part of the sport.  If you want the thrills Cheesy, you have to risk the spills  Cry. Only the individual can decide if they are prepared for that - and it might be something that changes over time depending on your experiences/fortune/etc. It's natural to feel sad about misfortune such as George's and this is just the place for fellow DS'ers to offer words of encouragement. If George (or anyone) wants to continue DS, I'm sure he will, if not I doubt he'd leave with any major regrets, since he (and most of us) will have already known and accepted the risks.

By reading your comment I presume you're an ex DS'er and it's therefore a shame you live with regrets.

    Best regards

For those who don't follow links to the other side Wink
Copied from Will's post over there.

    "Well what a day.
4 people on a welsh mountain top " The Skirrid" South Wales
Forecast was for 20 to 21 mph sure when we arrived there was well over 30 closer to 40 going over the top. but quite turbulent.
When we arrived Mark call me and said "Where are you, I've just blown up a reaper and am not going to fly again until I have a gun"

So he was first up with the flight of the day
Name Mark Southall Model Ops MCT, Speed 284mph , Witness Warick Smith, Gun Prospeed. new British Record.
Next Up with the bockel was Rick
Name Warick (Rick or Zim) Smith Model D80, Speed 244, Witness Mark Southall, Gun Falcon DS.

After that, we may have gone home. Every flight was slower than the flight before, but still good practice at going fast and getting comfortable.

Well Done to Mark on a new uk record and to Rick and such a Jump"

    Well done guys, top stuff
Wish I was there too Cry

After seeing Mark's run I have no doubt that we will soon be going through 300 with a few guys. I'm hoping that we see the UK record over 300 before the end of the year. Gotta catch those Aussies!!!
