I am.

Thuro sent these variations on my request for white with black bits. The man understands style.

Ballast on order as well.

It look nice, but if it were me I would have the top stripes red (or colour). as the wing comes over (or under) it's easier to see if you have a colour to catch your eye.

Sorry, I'm a bit colour sensetive. It has to an exact red or yellow. Close isn't good enough. White is easier to work with. And if it is the wrong White then you can always contrast it up.

Excuse my ignorance but is this the 100" or 124"

Offline mr ed wrote Re: Getting Needled...? on December 02, 2009, 12:31:58 PM
100" I don't think the 124 is fully finished yet. I mainly got it because I wanted a lightwind crosstail and the Hypnosis order seems to be stalled by CCM concentrating on Martinets rather than a 6 year old design. As well as the light wind performance it does seem to have a bit of go as well. Should be a nice allround toy and pack nice and flat and each wing is only 6" longer than a Hypno.
SD150 on ailerons though...  ???

try hyperion digitals.  They have metal gears.

The hyperion 09amd is a small servo which is 9mm wide. (SD150 is 9.2mm I think)
Robot Birds

The 095fmd is a proper wing servo like a s3150 or 5125mg, but it's 9.5mm wide.  It has 4kg/cm of torque and 0.18 secs.
Robot Birds

The price isn't bad in the current climate (one that will probably not go back to the old prices).  I hope the 124" is well priced.

Futaba has a pretty decent selection of 9mm digital servos as well.

I like the otherworldly look of the more modern planes. They have their own kind of elegance to me. Its like scale planes. They are great in their own right. I don't see the need to dress up a doll and stick one inside.
Others have an equally valid opposite viewpoint.

I look at the Needle and see a winged javelin (the weapon), not a Minimoa.

I agree. It's a slippy looking bird designed to chew Caldera's.

I think I shall have one. (To go with my Caldera......)

Very nice Mr Ed  :co And something of a bargain relatively speaking.

Dave Wrights prototype always seems to go well. I see Dave's 'cut off' tail fin hasn't made it into production..... He dinged the fin (hanger rash) and simply cut it off square - looks a bit dodge but goes just the same.

Apparantly the first was due to arrive any time now. I'm back on the list after coming off last summer when I didn't know if this was the way I wanted to go or F3K. Luckily my shagged shoulder sorted that decision for me.
I've been told March as a dlivery date so I suspect those ordered early will be getting out the door over the next few weeks.

it might be a bit of a dirt collector............

I guess the servos need to be upside down so the pushrods will go under the wing (joiner).  I would prefer a nose cone though.

I like it Mr Ed, symplistic elegance.. :af

Mine should be delivered any second now...I have flown Daves, it is a very quick model , Daves really suffered with sloppy servos, this is one model that will reward a quality install, cant wait to give it some real pasty on the slope edge, ;D

Thats a very good point, I wonder why nobody has picked up on it though, do they know something / anything about these servos.

Nice plane Mr Ed, hope you don't change your mind before she arrives.

So the designer came up with a graphic, very graphic in black over white, and the client said - "nah, too fancy - just a couple of stripes please"  :)

to be fair if I was spending 700 notes on a model I would be looking for a decent servo.  Especially in light of Paul's comments about sloppy servos.

Actually I didn't ask for the stripes on the top but I'm prepared to run with them. And I said "no logoes" but Thuro asked if he could a couple if small ones on the nose and it would have been churlish to say no.

As for changing my mind again, well its going to be here to quick for that. (Fingers crossed!)

Maybe another alternative to the SD150 at the bottom of this post:

Hi Guys, watched your discussion about servos today.

No compromizes, please use the HYPERION ATLAS DS095 FMD, the best what you can get. The servos are 9,5mm thinn, strong, fast and with an absolute absense of play !! programmable too. Use this servos for Ailerons and Flaps. The wing is made for this servotype.
Equivalent servos: DES 449MG but more expensive and unfortunately I had 3 non working pieces of 8. One of this eight gave up his live during the first testflight. After a few minutes in flight the left Aileron moved full up and down all the time. Just with Butterfly I got the plane down the ground without damage, very lucky.
The FUTABA S3153 are the best for Elevator and Rudder.
All the recommended servos are working well in my Needle:

Cheers
Thuro

great stuff. although I have to be honest I say the available colour schemes don't inspire me that much. Mr Ed's simpler scheme seems to suit the plane a lot better.

This is going to be a cheap fit out then...

BTW. Thuro did the black and white scheme for me, not my design, just my choice of colours. I like the carbon shining through...

The only plane I flew before I bought one was the Brio. All the others were bought on the hype, and they're all fun. I'm sad about the 'nosis but it was the same problem as with the Luna, not so much the over run as the total lack of communication from the factory.

Even a "je suis désolé" would have helped.
