Hi There
anybody help me with this. Am i right in saying that a 40 to 1 mix equates to 40mls oil to 1 Litre of petrol I dont want to get it wrong as this is my first venture into Petrol engines

No, 40:1 means 1/40th oil and therefore 1litre of petrol/40 = 25ml of oil
40ml of oil is 25:1

Also.....to get better 'consistency' of petrol mix tank to tank...............mix big batches at any 1 time..............the green plastic cans hold 5 litres, so that's 5000ml, divide by 40 = 125ml of oil per 5ltrs petrol. Mixing small batches per mix will lead to sight variations unless you are 'ml' perfect in your oil adding.
