Ok chaps I know it's a little early but I thought I'd start getting something organised.
A few years back we used to run a Pylon open 1/2a mini goodyear team race open to all the pylon entrants and any one else that fancied a crack. Rules were simple. Any plain bearing 1.5cc diesel engine. Any 1/2a mini goodyear model or own creation of similar dimension. Pete Odell will be CD, anything that doesn't comply will be stamped on. ;D :D

All the races will be held at the back of the tent area over the grass.

More info to follow.

What line length you running.

We will be along with one, not sure who will fly and who will pit though, I would like Paul to fly as you lot will do about twice the distance once he stakes his place dead in the centre of the circle.

It does not matter much, as chances are they will all be no shows  :uk:

If them little guys do show up, they will be at a severe disadvantage against two 18 stone pilots!

Motor will be a plain bearing PAW1.5. I will look into line length but normaly 42.5 foot would be required to keep some tension on these lightweights

Control Line!  Cool!  Haven't done that since I was 14!  And won't be doing it for a while now, as I snapped my achilles last week!  :banghead:

Happy Christmas everyone!  :af

Will it be anything goes in the inner circle  :af

Can we have electric or is it just for proper engines and what plans are you using J to build from.

Paul

No electric, last time you raced electric it was too stressful.

At least with an IC engine we can blame any issues on some outrageous tuning idea of mine

Paul, anything goes in the middle! I have a plan some where for the sweet vee. Do you want a copy?

Baz, thats the spirit, lots of tuning may win or just a plain reliable motor, but where's the fun in that.  :)

You just hold the handle on these and get dizzy. I have had a bit of a challenge from some other member of the Pylon fraternity that at the moment would like to remain anonymous.

You got a scan of that Swee Pee plan or just the original?

Remaining anonymous is probably how they will stay until some time on the Monday afternoon of the Nats!

Thats the spirit Chas :af I built the stinger as well. I have scaled down 'Ole blue' as well from the Howard plan open goodyear jobbie. May fly a bit better, I'll let you know :af Well, scaled up as it's from a mag.

Sorry Baz been out of circulation for a few days & just seen your post. Got a sneaking feeling we went as short as 35ft. Mick (Ar Kid) Illingworth would know, as his winning model is probably still in the loft with its lines attached!

Have a good Xmas

I think Mini goodyear is standard half A length, 13 metre something 42 foot something. I'll have a look.

I starting to think we might of bitten off more than we can chew. Could this be Barrie in second place.

Whilst looking for a PAW 1.5 to mangle on ebay I stumbled on this. 1 bid already at 250 for an old IR?

I would put good money on that being Keith Read selling the IR engine, judging by the smell of bull.

Baikanor (the smell is getting over whelming), Ravel Ibragimov (manufacturer of IR engines) was a small time operator as far as I know. In fact none of the engine guru's know where he sprung up from, so Baikanor is very unlikely.

The mini goodyear results were not me, I think that guy is called Brian Lever.

Someone edited my post about Keith Reads engines! it does not accurately reflect what I was meaning now!

yes that will be it, I reasoned that the Mod. Zim was most likely salvating over some composite glider, and I did not think Justin had the Mod's rights so it must have been some auto feature.

Talking about removing things from the forum, what happened to the First Person View section? by a mercy it seems to have disappeared!

LOL Baz - you're right - it is the swear filter, which is a mystery to me! And you're also right about the composite glider - there's something arriving from the US today which is very saliva-worthy!

Hope you had a good Xmas mate and all the best for the New Year.

What is the wing span on a mini goodyear model ?

Offline SMF wrote Re: Inter Pylon Team Race contest at Nats 2010 on December 29, 2009, 14:12:26 PM
I don't think there is a wing span as such, the models are to be 1/12 scale if that gives some idea.

Rules are here http://www.bmfa.org/publications/rulebooks/files/Ru09-cl2.pdf

Morning Boss,

Hope you had a pleasant Christmas.

It doesn't look too good for that date we had at Shawbury but we are having a get together on Saturday at my field where there will be some home made soup, fresh hot buttered bread and what looks like some good weather.

You and Nige are invited if you fancy it.

There's a rumour going around that a certain 'band of brothers' may well still have there 1992 winning model from the last interclass comp. Powered by a Chinese Silver 'sparrow'  :nananana:
