Partly  due to the success of last years Lundy foray and a need to get some serious sports flying and recreation in .  A group/gang/gaggle army of us are going to revisit  this great place on the week beginning 21st August  (Saturday) for a week .

Availability for this week is pretty good (compared to the rest of the summer) unfortunately ‘The Barn’ is booked out pretty much all year so that’s a no go , so theres no real cheap option (unless you want to camp , ask Joel !) .

A list of  accommodations and there availability can be found here

    - The Landmark Trust | Old Light Cottage

Lynda has graciously agreed to try and sort frequencies so that if we don’t get clashes you don’t have to fly with \ where  everyone else is and can do your own thing .
but the accommodation is upto yourselves and can be booked on the link above .
Weve got timing gear  flags \ poles etc   so we can run F3F  , Pylon , combat  and even  sunbathe.

More details to follow as time goes on .

I couldn't free up the time last year to go, so really looking forward to this trip.

I'm going! Soooo now then... This time we have a full week to wile away. So what we need are some great ideas for some coolio sport fly comps...

I have an idea for one to start everyone's creative juices flowing...

Hot dogging/ aerobatics comp:

Everyone gets a five minute slot, on a rotating basis - like an F3F comp really. Perhaps three rounds or something.
Basically you just go for it and aerobat/ hot dog as much as you can for the five minutes. Cheering and clapping and general noise making encouraged by the other fliers! At the end of your round, all the other competitors give you 3 marks, each out of ten. One for hot-doggin awesomeness (i.e. low passes, low inverted passes, long dives into brutal square loops, hand catch on landing etc - generally aimed to encourage silliness!!); the second mark for aerobatic quality and tidiness; and the third mark for effort. The "effort" mark is designed to even it up a bit for folks with less experience - you're judging them on how hard they are pushing THEIR envelope if you know what I mean.

I'll keep track of the marks (basically because I want to win it) and at the end of it all, we have an overall winner, the one with the highest total marks, as well as an overall hot-dog champ and a "most promising stick banger" for the winner in the "effort" marks.

The winner will receive a 100% scale model of a paper aeroplane, dipped in Lundy bitter.

What do you think? Make a change from F3F for a day...

Zim

Yeah I guess the PIK will come along guys... Can't beat it for those lazy evenings... And yeah - AWESOME idea Adam! Just do it with a foamy first to make sure that the metal window frames don't make some sort of shielding to the rf or summat.

I am seriously tempted, I see Hamners is available... Its tempting just for a pint of Old Light in the Marisco Tav

However, with a 10day flying trip to France in May and other family committments I think know it would end in divorce  :-\

I am sure you will have another fantastic time and I hope the wind blows all week (possibly not blowing tents off the camp site), maybe with one light day for DLG/clenchy bum cheeks/thermal action.

I also hope you take your cameras and share, its a very photogenic place...

I've just heard from Mike Shellim - he's definitely coming too
so that's at least 11 flyers - enough to man F3F buzzers etc - and fill up the bar  :)

I was visiting the light house one year and caught a sea gull in the open window of the kitchen trying to take a 16oz raw streak out off the same window - both steak and gull it only managed to drop it onto the grass outside - I suppose the nose weight / ballast was to much for the seagull to fly - i've got a photo somewhere will post later.

looks like Woodstock is going to take up the space we have in the lighthouse .....the idea of 60mph and rain in a tent has changed his mind ..........good lad .... :af

lets have some ideas on fun comps then ..............we should have at least one speed gun this year   so the question of which X Y plane is fastest in a straight line should be answerd
