Hello new to your site iam just about to start building a Mick Reeves 1/3 scale camel for a member of our flying club.
he has a sc radial engine & would like to use in this model, will this engine be ok for the job.
 :-\
Simon (always broke) told me about this forum and says to go with a  Zenoah 38 with a Toni Clark reduction drive
any info would be of great help
Thanks Stuart

I'd definately go the Zenoah 38 and reducer route, but I am biased since thats what I did myself :af

Bags of power and no real oily goo to contend with. It swings a 32" x 18" prop at very low revs which looks far more scale than anything else. Very trouble free set up too :af

For large props you really need to go with a reduction drive

I think the ZG38 with drive would be the best option for your Camel  ;)
I use the ZG62 with torquemaster in my Camel myself, also a very good combination on this plane
The ZG38 turns a bigger prop, weighs a kilo less and has its weight better up front than the Torquemaster

For what I've seen is that the ZG62/Torquemaster has less vibration than the ZG38 drive

These Dutch radials are also superb!

I'm no expert, but would the size (cc wise) required to swing a scale prop with a radial engine just be too powerful? The Z38 and reduction drive on the 32x18 will max at 3000 rpm. On a Moki it would do what....7000rpm $%&

If it's just the scale prop size he wants, and an awsome sound, check out the Schulndt drive on a z62 from Fighteraces, there is a vid somewhere, V. nice  :study:
