Hi Guys,

Is there a pukker plan for the swinger?  If so can you advise a download site.

Sorry, my fault. I said I'd put links to them on the start post of this thread but I haven't got round to it...

I'll put them here then edit them back onto the first post in a bit.

(These plans are stored in my RCMF gallery, if anyone has a problem with that let me know a better link and I'll replace them)

A4 Tiled 46" plans (print them out then stick them together)

A0 size 46" plans (need to take them to a printer)

 A0 size 36" plans

There are some unfinished instructions as well:

http://propercornishslopers.co.uk/Swinger_Instructions.zip

Good luck if you do decide to build one!

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!
So that's where I've been going wrong...

Nicely done.

Can you put the A4 and letter tiled plans up as well? And can I have a DXF version? At least with that I can get the plans cut out automatically even if I still have to cut the Depron myself...

Oh, and Eyeboy? I tried your cunning plan of using a pizza wheel to cut smooth curves in Depron. It looked good at first but I could never get it to cut all the way through, so a scalpel will work just as well really.

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!

Thanks for emailing me the tiled plans YoYo!

I've updated the site with them.

All the plans have the latest mods (more rudder and fin under the wing for knife edge performance) etc...

The instructions are very out of date and are a 36 inch model. They are great to look over and then make your own solution or use some of the ones on the new fish on the block thread.

The hardest bit to get right is the wing crutch. I'd probably try to get some fuz formers in there as well but its tricky as you then need to route the carbon push rods. Nothing that cant be done though with a bit of thought.

Pasty and i were chatting about the swinger builds last night as his ones been retired recently. Hes hell bent on keeping it very light omiting things like fibre glass leading edges as it all adds up. These planes love light air are when they are as light as possible. ::)

BTW - Lastest mod is to push the wings as far back as you can onto the spar when you glue them on. The loops become really tight and the air foil in general acts much better even if it ridges over the spar.

Dont get to hung up about the ridge on the wing. Its a light air machine so never seems to be a hinderance. My latest ones got it (check the pic on the web site at the top) and it flies lush.

i'm gonna have to build a 36 sometime, but i'll need a work bench first.

i think in what these gliders are doing the wing is more of a drag inducer rather than a lifting device, much like a shocky wing

all the wings doing is presenting an area for the wind to lift up, rather than flying through and generating lift.

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Being fully symetrical thats exactly what happens. The section is very thin so helps keep the drag down.

I havent seen a 36 since the 46 came about... thats because the 46 is a much better machine!

it's also much bigger to transport about, that'd be my issue, and removable wings would add weight.

maybe drag was the wrong word.... your catching lift, rather than generating it
a swinger would probably suck on a shallow slope.

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Shallow slopes suck for aerobatics full stop though. So yeah it does!

The 48" is so easy to throw on top of other planes as its depron and light it never does any damage and being on top of the other planes means it does not get damaged.

the venoms 50" won't fit in the boot so goes on the back seat... if i'm alone.

I'm not sure how you could stick 2 bits of 3mm together and keep the weight down. Maybe a really thin layer of thinned down UHU Por? Not sure what you would thin it down with that would not eat the depron though!

what about that 3m spray glue? is that depron safe?

The wings are 3mm, all the 6mm bits are pretty flat. So how about using double sided tape? You could put carbon strips between the layers too, to keep the stiffness up.

Cheers YoYo I suppose I could make the fuse from blue or pink foam ? then do the wings as per plan ?

Thats the best bet. Its a bit expensive but would do the job nicely!

Doubled sided tape would be 3 times the weight so is a definate no go! You dont need carbon or anything as the plane at 300-400g does not have the energy to do any serious damge on normal hard landings.

Get a larger car then! Man, i'd not have kids in a car with precious planes  :o

As far as I can see, the fuse only has to be light and rigid - the wings need to be able to curve a lot more, hence the 3mm Depron.

I've toyed with making my next fuz from blue/pink foam but after much chattign with Gary came to the conclusion that you'll get a stiffer lighter fuz with depron.

But seeing as I hate folder the depron wing I'm almost certainly maybe ;) going to hot wire some proper cores for my next one.

. . . . . . or just build a 36" Swinger (as per Phil's original suggestion), accept that it might not quite be the same animal as the 46", keep the same car and enjoy the experience of having something a little different on the slopes.
 ;D :af

Red plane. White plane. Green plane. Blue plane. Yellow plane. Orange plane. I have lots of planes. I know that means you you admire me as I have more planes of greater value than you! I'm great.

Actually go with the 36! Would be great to see one of them flying again and go really well off staggie (certain bits are better than others)
