Another outing today saw all 4 of the d80 owners on the slope, but only 2 competed.

Adam spanked all his records with 231mph (well done Adam That was some good flying)
Will (Me) Up'ed my pb to 169mph,  but then the gun left and it got bumpey on the back so, so did I.
Between Rick and George, I think that George should take 3rd, (As i dont think Ricks got up the mountain)

The best opus speed was 224 if I remember correctly (By Abbo) But i think that is for the DS Speeds thred.

Will

P.S. Adam Please post my speed on rcg, and I guess Graham should post Adams (Graham was on the gun).

Hey Will

Nice one on the PB mate. Only a quick visit to me on the hill so just the D40 today. Well done Adam! And that's 224 for Abbo  ;D reckon he was doing more than 124 when I was there!

While it seems  my gunning captured the various highest speeds, my memory's like a sieve.
Fortunately, I mostly showed the maxima recorded on the gun to others for verification, so hopefully someone will chip in & correct me as necessary.

FWIW, my recollection is:

Adam, D80: 232 (GB on Stalker Pro)
Abbo, MCT: 224 (GB on Stalker Pro)
Adam, Tank: 191 (GB on Stalker Pro)

I'd better take a notepad & pencil in future.......... :''

Happy to record Adam's exceptional (in the conditions) speeds on rcg; but would appreciate first receiving confirmation of the 232 & 191 figs from Adam or George or Will. Anyone of you out there? :)

Assuming whoever gunned will post Will's  PB - congrats Will, wasn't aware you'd done that!

Thankx all

i was a victim of circumstance. I joined the masses to RE on Thursday and did hours of dsing, even some clockwise (I normal do anti) and figure 8's but it wasn't a big day.

Sunday was forecast upto 20mph (Dont know what the actual was), also on RE, but a touch more favourable in direction, and much less people. infact only 4 of us, so good ridge time was plenty, probably some of the fastest flying I have seen for a long time and the safest too.

Started with the pole cat doing a 120, then got the mini (Mega) dragon stonking (No speed as the gone was on the other end) Then I started with the d80, first flight 180mph, Then steve went up and did a 214mph, and after a bit af chilling I went up again and did my 195mph. Well please not only with the max,  but they where some of the smoothest laps I have done, minimal aileron imput, and when you found the sweet spot it just rocketed. I opend the laps, kept calm and juts kept going. I think I weel feel more fomfortable at 160 now and not wetting my self.

Paned the dragon before going home, fixable, but will not look any better.

Jeez guys I have to say I'm dying here. Man oh man oh man. I want some decent winds and some fast flying!

Been so long it seems since we have had all 4 D80's on the hill tearing it up... or is that just my memory doing its usual ctrl alt delete?

it was probably about a month ago. the thursday when we where all up there.

My D80 is with mr fu. After a couple of bad landings cyno (Temporary at best) more bad landings it needed it. (Opened the top seem between the wing seat and the fin) Should be back as soon as it can get brought down.

Next weekend should be 60" nats, and then we are ready for some more D80 action.

Thought I would put my 80 posts in the correct thread to stop taking to 660 thread off topic.

So what happened.

Unfortunately the wind was not as strong as forecast, we where expecting 25 30 and got half that.
But I was still please with my ds laps. got her into the 140's. (Don't remember my exact speed now).
Due to the light wind the speed increase was normally 3mph per lap, fi unlucky (Or bud gun reading) less, and may a max acceleration of 10mph.

Any how, enough about the flight.

I was landing like a 2wat and the first 2 approaches where on ds aileron settings so not enough to turn the model with crows.
Finally got the rates  right and see didn't want to come down.  (I was doing a down wind leg, then up wind crows down and hope for the best). Then I heard a voice (Fly down to the bottom, and bring her up the ridge), I thought thats he I normally land re so why not. So put her down on the front and lined her up, all was going well, the model seemed to be just about skimming across the heather, nice and slow, then, she dropped, (My immediate thought was ok shes down ok) and then the crunch.  My heart sank. I ran to see what had happened and she was up-side-down and a 2m high mini ridge.  :'(

Damage report, about 100mm of de-lamination in the top wing skins. plastic ball dufer split. :'(

I have taken some pictures to send to Tony, and see what he recommends for the best repair. ( I like Tony, he agrees that cyno is not the best solution, unless it is).

On the bright side it could have been worse, if it where faster.

Note to self, keep a look out for orangeD80rockbiters.

Bummer Will.

I had to repair delams on my glued-back MCT. If its at the LE (or just forward of the hinge line) its quite straightforward. I taped up the area first to protect the surface finish. Then inserted finishing resin (as is very thin) into the delam using a long razor knife. Finally use wide tape (clear packaging type) to pull the top skin tight and wrap round to the bottom skin (or hang the tape over the edge of the wing with weights if hinge line repair). The tape is under tension and keeps the skin tight against the wood its delam'd from. If the delam isn't clean you might need to 'clean' the wood before doing this. If the delam is somewhere without an opening, then not so easy

Unlucky Will, sorry to read about that. I'm still very grateful for how miraculously I got away with my landing mishap the day before when we flew together in the Peak District. One of my MCT's nine lives has gone. (Hopefully it had nine, rather than just one - and now none)

I rembered your picture when I was looking at the model, reached for my phone, and remembered that i hat put it in by bag.

some times I have good luck, and some times not. i think the morral of that is make sure you know where are are landing in these places. aim to land by your feet. and if you think its not gona make it, turn into lift and try again.

Patience.

Trying to keep it going. An I think we will need a d60 thread too. And where has the D40 one gone.
Some speeds missing but from what I can find
Date 15 September 2010
Location Skirrid
Adam Richardson 263mph
Warick (zim) Smith 204mph
Andy Bourne 170mph

As has been said in other places its always good to have wind speeds, and weights.

It was blowing at about 25mph when i flew.
i dont know the weight of my D80, but i had about 180gram of ballast so very light really.
