Saw this new addition to the PB models site, it is for electric but i think it would also be good for 25 size motors.

Hmm, must get on with my Bullet!  ASP 46 ordered - can just get it into a SLEC 40 sized mount.

Mine is fitted with an HP40 on a flair mount, had to cut the beams back though. I did get out tuesday afternoon for a couple of hours as i needed a fix! not too bad but rain stopped play, will just concentrate on building for the next few weeks . . . . unless we do get an exceptionally good flying day.

I only hope the Ridge Racer glider has a better fuz than the original ... The Ridge Recruit and Ridge Racer that I had were egg-shell fuselages .....

Excellent flyers I have to say - but oh so fragile ! Meon Valley Soarers at Butser Hill saw my Ridge jobs go home for repairs quite often !

Clone 450se V2, Syma S006, ME109 -foam, 3D Aerobatic-wood ... FlySky 9X, JR Propo 8ch, Radiolink 6ch .... If you don't crash - you ain't flying !

The SLEC 29 to 40 mount is only 33mm between the bearers, the ASP is 35mm (according to specs) you will need the 49 to 61 mount, trust me I made the same mistake with my Irvine 40, this will make the building of the cowling interesting.

Yes, the ASP is just a little wide for the mount but I have  a big file and have taken a little off the mount either side.  Because the crankcase is semi-circular at that point you don't need to take off much volume.
Other candidate engines were:
Irvine 40 Mk2,
Irvine 53
MVVS 49
The latter 2 would definitely need the larger mount and the 40 is destined for another project and seeing as I could squeeze the ASP into the 40 size mount it seemed to be the obvious candidate.  If the one in Miles's Travel-Air is anything to go by it should go nicely!

Wow memories!!

The plane i loved the most in this style was the flair meteor!  i cut my aerobatic teeth on one of these in the early 90 s.

was my dads but if i was good he let me fly it!  until i got better than him and it locked out and was no more, battery failure!

Wish i got another but didnt.  went on to a dave smith pattern ship then became a mad man on a president funfly!  never had a bullit or tornado, wish i did,

I would mark if my bench was not full with a ziroli 122" b25 nearing completion a new db wing kit for my aging spitfire refurb and then my ziroli bearcat airframe to finish,  then i may get one!   i am sure we still have a old hanno os 61 in a box ?

It is worth remembering that when the Bullet was designed, it was built around HP/webra/OS 40 FSR engines which are a bit shorter in length and not as bulky as equivalent engines today. If you are wanting to fit bigger engines and also to maintain the lines would be to use front of the fuselage side as a datum and shift the front bulkhead back, pushing the larger part of the engine back into a deeper part of the fuselage enabling you to have more surface area to glue the nose blocks/fit a bigger mount to. Would give you a bit more to play with and given the extra weight if the bigger motors and a shorter nose it should not have too much of an effect on the CG and you do have room to shift the tank back aswell.

PB Models are now selling a glass cowl for the Bullet . . . . you could forget about the nose blocks altogether! it is available through their website.

Hi Fisty, I manages to sqeeze an Irvine 40 in mine but had to add about 3/16" to the legnth of the cowl.  I did need to use a SLEC 49-60 mount which was a bit tight and I needed to trim the mounting beams down.  Building and shaping the cowl area is a lot of fun and the results are very rewarding, i personaly don't thnk a GF cowl is right for this model.

That looks like it is coming along very nicely! almost ready for covering? Fibreglass cowl is an option for those who do not wish to carve and sand too much. It was aimed more at those wanting to fit electric set ups to the Bullet. PB is working on some very hot setups for its whole range.

PB models are re-introducing the Funfighter range of kits and the Saturn models skydancer is imminent! so those craving traditional kits will have quite a choice.

These pics were taken a couple of days ago, there was still some sanding to do, just about there now, just waiting for some warmer days/nights so I can glass cloth the fuz.

Finally got the Bullet aloft! and was very soon happily punching holes in the sky and tickling clouds! Very pleased! Two clicks up, two clicks right and she was staright and level. Going to have to do another one in the blue scheme after the Tornado is finished. We tried for some flying shots but as i only had a compact they did not come out too well.

Yes that looks just like the original, right down to my dear old departed friend Dave Masons SMAE/BMFA number on the wing 57858 mine is 57851 as we joined virtually together in the 60's
Picture shows Dave with Original Bean in 1972BB(before Bullet) note same number on fin

Nice one BOF! good to put a face to a name, i wanted to finish it exactly as it is on the box, Paul gave me the history of the model/colour scheme . . . . Paul still has the box model, although he has stripped it down. Will soon have the Skydancer in the air, will be finished in exactly the same colours as the prototype. Going for a second Tornado with retracts as well.

Why not do them yourself?  ;)

Hi folks,
does anyone know if my os55ax will fit in the Bullet?

Also, does the main wing come ready made to accept a servo in each wing for the ailerons??

I think that would be a bit overkill for the bullet, saying that mine has a asp 50 shoe horned in :)

No the model is designed to have a single servo in the centre of the wing, you would need to cut out the servo boxes yourself. If you are building the model from a kit, then it shouldn't prove too much of a challenge.

Thanks Duncan.
I presume your Asp 50 is a 2 stroke? Did you have to modify your Bullet to accept the 50?
I have a newish OS46FX so i may fit that if the 55ax doesn't fit.
I'll modify the wings to accept 2 servos.
I'm not overly impressed with the quality of the wing sheeting! Very grainey and would need face filling just to be able to cover it in film it! >:(
Also, there was a load of timber dust on the parts! I've made several traditional kits but the amount of dust is outragious! :o
On the flip side the formers and the like have been cut very cleanly :)
There was mention of "templates" a few posts back. How were these used during the build? Maybe for getting the profile right? $%&

Any tips for my build Fisty? I've not made my mind up yet whether i'm going to use heat shrink film to cover it or light cloth and Poly-C? :-\

I used Ferrari red profilm on mine with white and black protrim, very pleased with the finished result, is not heavy either. The bottom of the tank bay i made as a hatch as it was so much easier to install the steerable nosewheel and the tank as the Bullet nose is quite narrow and space is at a premium, i am using a Slec 6oz tank (red front to it).

I am using an 8oz Flair tank in mine, fitted in no problem, I don't think you'll have any trouble fitting the 55AX or the 46FX as I managed to fit a new Irvine 40 which is quite a big lump.  I glass clothed the fuz on mine then painted with Halfords Audi brilliant red, covered the wings and tail with red Solarfilm Supershrink, perfect match for the paint.
