Top show that as usual was well organised. Just a few thoughts

 - Not the same without Mickey shouting!!
 - Full size displays were awesome - how the hell that glider did the loop that terminated in a gap between and below  2 trees i dont know...
- Slots were on time and never cut short - Mickey take note.. :''
- Great food and drink in hospitality tent.
- must listen to myself when trying to take off 1/3 scale pup in 90 degree crosswind..i.e DONT!!
-Where was the Scale stuff and BIG stuff? For me there was just too much aerobatic displays - Most were awesome but there were some really boring stuff in there - too high/ too basic /too far away /too small - THIS IS NOT A CRTICISM OF SHOW ORGANISERS - I fully realise that you can only put on displays if the pilots register and turn up!!
- DB Rocks!
- the pair of synchro helis was brilliant  - HTF they remember that routine without a caller stuns me p.s I hate helis..
-Best display for me....got to be the Bishop's Hawks - awesome as usual...

Book me in for next year!!

Jez

cracking show loved it
the spit was just up from where we camped, one of our boys was in the cr&pper below it at the time  ;D
i can see why the spotter took his eyes off, your rarely needed so end up watching other things, full up and throttle is just wrong tho.
funny enough i'd already been told about this guy on the friday evening, shocking flying standard on a large aerobat only ended when a pictulary rough bit of flying ejected the ignition battery out the front  ::)

on a sadder note we have to announce that mid air molly has taken out her last victim ( the mustang in the shot with the F4U )
just one of those mid airs, you can see your getting close to someone, but to do anything would cause the crash, we both turned into the pyros and the quicker molly on the inside bit off the mustangs tail getting caught up in the fin herself they both piled in.
molly died an ace that being her 5th score and remained solid and reliable to the end, you'll be sadly missed.  :uk:

that done with, gezz just too many good things to all mention, ali brilliant as per norm, the dawn patrol did an excellent job given the wings, one poor guy found a tree, the young lad with the heli was pretty good, but he's rubbish with a cougar  ::)

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

What was the advice you gave me - just fly like they are not there, don't worry you won't hit them   ;)  Still, sorry to hear she's gone, she had a good life though.

I presume you are reffering to the excellent 20ft long flight on Sat evening followed by an embarrassing 20ft walk to retrieve the kit of parts!! What happened, it looked to me like he simply threw it onto the floor!!???

;D so i did, but even tho they looked close you still can't do much because chances are your not close till you do avoid them
given the size difference i couldn't quite tell where i was, but once he turned in i had to as well and then it's just which line your both on.
if i had more thinking time i could of chopped the throttle and dropped back, but all the time you get is "wow, thats close, their going to hit"
the advice still stands tho, unless your at the back of the circuit banked over where its easy to work out where you all are, passes up the strip you take minimal avoiding action unless it's clear and easy.
sudden movement cause crashes and could lead to the debris doing something other than crashing straight up the strip safely.

tis one of those things i'm afraid.

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Great weekend, considering what it takes to organise an event like this I would say it ran like clockwork 10/10 and again Steve had managed to organise the weather.

Most ofthe swap meet stuff was way overpriced, but my mate sold a katana with St3200  and full set of metal servos for £150,( a bargain)he sold a Flair Swallow  within 5 mins of the thing opening on sat morning, and a seagull models space walker etc.

I ended up buying a graupner typhoon edf jobbie for £50,0 and ifs someone off here..... er does it fly?

Very nice weekend, and whoever got the 1 week in spain hol for £200.00 , well done.

Aye wonderful weekend, lovely atmosphere, lovely weather Carp wind direction and I think the DP did wonderfully well coping with it especially on the sat were they seemed to be fighting it all the way, took a lot of courage to get them up and sadly there were a few mishaps but to see most of them up again sun was the highlight of the show for me,and the young lad flying the triplane deserves a bit of a mention for one so young standing next to "old man "Redshaw did'nt seem to phaze him,and  the two Hawks flown by Messrs Bishop, what can we say.
Two questions
1 Have Kens shoes dried out ;D
2 Are we having a collection to keep Jez in props :''
Thanks to all the gang

Believe it was a "Wrong model" issue (as in not flying your own model).

Anyway, a great w/e again and a massive thanks to all the organisational team, it was a superb effort from start to finish .............and for once the TJD team lost more than the FunFighters in that last pyros slot ;) (second photo above of F4U landing taken at the end of that slot with the orange smoke still going strong).

Pete

The pyro slots were great but a few were lost. The mustang in the pic was not part of the tjd team. He was on his own and joined the slot! Bet he wishes he hadn't. We only actually lost 2 models in the pyro slots. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Both times the tree jumped out and grabbed them.

Considering the amount of models lost throughout the weekend we got off very lightly. Big heavy warbirds and crosswinds don't mix but none were lost thankfully, just a couple of bent undercarriages. The first turn over the tree's was very disconcerting to say the least. jets and models with excess power weren't effected of course but many others were

On a safety note, can someone explain why certain 'show' pilots were allowed to fly Jet Turbines at high speed towards the public then either turn or pull up when the BMFA clearly state 'No turn should terminate with the aircraft on a heading towards the spectator enclosure'?

Is it one rule for one and not another?

Offline Cactus wrote Re: Weston 2010 even less to wait now !! on June 23, 2010, 23:44:49 PM
it ended up turning away, so the turn isn't terminated towards the crowd is it

we could all just do sedate left hand circuits if you find that entertaining.  ::)

anyone note the first moaning took 3 days this time, a new show record  :uk:

Griff - at some point on any given circuit an a/c will be on a heading towards the crowd line even a figure 8 will have it..

Only by flying straight lines with a reversal will it be avoided...

Now that would be dull to watch!!

And even the reversals would need the roll to be away from the crowd.... ;D

Was thinking more in terms of large turbines flying through the gap area of the two large Oak trees in the centre directly towards the spectators before pulling up or around.

Clip on of those babies and where do do think the aircraft would likely end?

You guessed it. :'(

Figure of eights can have the intersection exiting either towards the public or away which in fact most did as in the bombing run.

That is inevitable - and just as true at a full sized air show.

The BMFA handbook says (from memory) that no turn should END with the model pointing towards the crowd. In your circuit example, should the model failsafe during the final turn it will continue turning to some extent as the the control surfaces will go to neutral. Even on a model with significant dihedral it will take some time for the model to cease turning.

If it were to failsafe in straight and level flight towards the crowd there would be a much higher chance of an accident.

There is no 100% safe answer apart from putting the crowd in a cage!

we can see the gaps, you can't, you can tell far in advance if your going to make it, infact it's even easier doing it towards yourself because you can have a large straight run up as you'll find Ali doing, he'll rarely do it the other way with the jets because it's not as safe, not turn from the flightline in as the funfighters do.

if you clip a tree, it'll end up around 30-40 feet infront if your unlucky, so still 40 odd foot short of the pilot and  another 50 to the crowd
