Peevie, I got here about 10 pm in the end.  No one on the gate, but just follow the camping signs and there is a nice lady directing people to camping spots. A coule of others have arrived after us, about 15 minutes ago.... Looks like it is going to be a scorcher!

I cr#pped myself there this morning while walking through the trees from the right side on the flight line to the swap tent.

There i was minding my own business with the kids when a roody big spitfire came crashing through the trees vertically about 10m from where we was.

Needless to say it wont fly again............

Saw that when DB shouted a warning that one was out of control .
Saw it looping a couple of times behind me and behind the trade stands when it did its last loop stright into the tree .
Could of been bloody nasty that one !
I dare say though that failsafe settings were used  :''

Came in very fast after 2 very fast loops, I heard if clip something on the first loop, looked up saw something above the tree, then watched it come through the trees in pieces.

I think it might of been Throttle hold setting.

Any way the guys with walkie talkies and buggy was very unhappy when people started taking photos of the wreck.

Just to clarify a couple of things about this crash. It was not a radio problem, it was purely pilot error, and his helpers error. Needless to say that the incident was dealt with swiftly by both the Weston Crew and the BMFA bods who were present. A mate of mine was under the tree too, he called to the folks there to look out and they did.

I personally thought it was the best Weston, the full size displays were absolutely top notch and a big thanks should go to the whole team for another superb effort. Once again the show flowed very well with a good variety of model types, not enough scale stuff for me and too many averagely flown aerobats, amongst some very enjoyable well flown aerobats I must also add..... but there was something for everyone.

Top job and many thanks to the Wrekin peeps :af :af

I didnt hear him, might of been muffled by the noise of a Spit at full chat ^-^

Anyway no one got hurt and it was a good show, but very nearly could of made headlines in the red tops for the wrong reasons as  no one would of survived that hitting them vertically.

Any way what about the traffic on the north bound M6 coming home ????? Nightmare !

Believe it was a "Wrong model" issue (as in not flying your own model).

Anyway, a great w/e again and a massive thanks to all the organisational team, it was a superb effort from start to finish .............and for once the TJD team lost more than the FunFighters in that last pyros slot ;) (second photo above of F4U landing taken at the end of that slot with the orange smoke still going strong).

It's a Pirotti Tuono brought to the show by 5 times Italian champion whose name I didn't get.  Ali will know.

This will likely follow the usual pattern of RCMF show threads from the past. Spectator reports a near-miss in the crowd from a model that crashed, thread ultimately closed, edited or removed. Rinse and repeat.

In no way do I want this thread to close down ( So maybe we might do well starting another thread ) But I was pretty close to the incident and the actual model ended up crashing right on top of our camping area ( Where mine and Duncan's young family were)
Luckily the trees stopped the model fro hitting the area where a few of our group ( Including Duncan's Infant daughter were sat)
At the time I assumed it was a battery failure/ disconnect. As the model seemed to be locked at full throttle and full up elevator. As always, I heard a few knee jerk reactions, which are always best played down. I said to a few of the chaps there at the time that these accidents, were just that accidents. Equipment does fail, and despite all that we do to protect against it, these things will happen and are sometimes out of our hands.
But then to come on this thread and read it was a pilot mistaking his model for another is just shocking. Even more shocking is that fact that his caller ( I assume he had a caller ) did not do anything to avert this incident.... What the hell is that about? Where was the caller and what was he doing?????

I hope it doesn't get closed, I think the many people it could of hit in the trees may want to read about what went wrong, there was lots of people in that area.

Ali and Andy - I also hope it does not get closed, but this scenario has played out several times previously. Instead of the incident being discussed they are inevitably swept under the carpet and what would otherwise be valuable lessons to be learned are lost. It's happened with threads about Weston, about Woodvale and about other shows in the past.

For some extremely bizarre reason, both the pilot and apparently the helper both looked away, when they looked back the model funnily enough wasn't in the same place. What to do but keep it at full bore and hold in the elevator :'' :banghead: :banghead: Simply was ridiculous but this isn't and cannot be the fault of any show organisers who book in pilots that have somehow passed all the relevant exams. The incident could not have been dealt with more swiftly by both the Wrekin crew or the BMFA who were very much on the ball from what it seemed.

A very good question, if you don't act when something is going wrong, what's the point in being there at all?

Anyway, I also had a stunning show, so nice to have some decent weather, loads of smiling faces around, families enjoying themselves.
Didn't get to see that much flying (but I enjoyed what I did see) and almost everyone I spoke to seemed to be really enjoying themselves, both days.

Hope we get the same sort of weather next weekend - Sam35 at Old Warden.

just got out of the pit,    and saw this about a crashed spit?  first i have heard of it,   $%&   glad no-one was hurt,     but anyway,  i suppose that all that where not there will be chucking teddies about,  so, let them get on with it,

ANYWAY,  great show,  i thought we on the YT stand had a fantastic static display of our wares,         nice to see a lot of the forum guys and gals again,   and the flying?  well,  there was something for everyone,       weston is still the ace venue for the tyro show flyer,  :af     it can be a hell of a worry for the new showline pilot,  its good to have a venue like Weston for them,

WREKIN BOYS, you did good,     few hiccups on the line with slotting,    but on the whole, a reet good weekend :af

OH, and the bring and buy?  there was a fair bit of good stuff, and a hell of a lot of TAT :ev  with some of the prices being asked,    no chance comes to mind!!
