I was wondering what other hobbies we do, apart from flying model aeroplanes?
Are all our hobbies related. For example, going to airshows or building airfix models.

Just a thought... :study:

My main other hobby is Home Cinema/Hi-Fi system. Have a full 7.1 THX Reference system which blows Odeon out of the water. So when it's wet to fly, I can watch a Blu-ray or listen to music/Video.
Other hobbies would be running/cycling/swimming, computers inc. Digital Photography (to show 'planes)

This is the sort of alternate hobby I'd expect quite a few people do here. I used to do Airfix kits to a good level, even entering in competitions. Now, they are an excellent source for scale material when building/scaling a rc model.
Also, have/collect Lego 12/9v Trains, some now are worth several hundred pounds.

Dabble in model engineering, writing software (allied to the day job), electronics and making robots.  So if I wander away from models a bit there's always something to do and I'll usually wander back within some months.

Willie shrinking because of the uncertainty regarding your final direction of travel? :ev

M/bikes, on and off since '69.  For the last 7 years it's been Aprilia Futura's, which have taken me around large chunks of Europe.   Restored a T140 basket case, sold it last year swearing no more Brit classics, now I've got a hankering for an A10 RR.
That and building models is about it.

flying's easy - it's getting it back down in one piece that's the hard part

At the moment I'm struggling to even have time for this hobby. It's not just te flying, or building, or maintenance, there's newsletters and club matters, all of which take up a lot of time. With working away a lot that time is squeezed even more.

Hung up my footy boots a couple of years ago, having had a lot of enjoyment out of coaching Cub's footy for the previous several years. I do miss that. Gave up my season tickets at the same time, having been a regular match goer since I was a youngster. Miss that even more.

I used to read a lot, but since needing reading glasses I bet I don;t read 1% of what I used to. Can't read in bed at all now.

Previously I did photography with a colour darkroom and spent a fair bit of time on that. All gone. I can't develop any great enthusiasm for digital photography, beyond the ease in which producing happy snaps is possible.

Used to play guitar and bass and do a bit of songwriting, but haven't picked up a guitar for a good few years.

So - aeromodelling it is then. :af

I prefer to play electric but my Marshall Valve Amp cannot be turned up above 3 in the house. Even that annoys the neighbours (and we live in a detached house) so of late I've been playing more acoustic stuff :af

Photography - not so much these days,  but I was the main photographer for 2 years on our university newsaper.  Photographed lots of politicians of the day and other visitors to the uiniversity; Edward Heath, Willie Whitelaw,  Geoffrey Howe, Lord Home, Lord Ramsey plus many others.

Rifle target shooting - until a few years ago,  mostly small-bore indoors,  occasional full-bore at Bisley.  Not done any for ages though.

Dabble a little in electronics occasionally.

Build/repair PCs - "neighbourhood PC support"!

Did a bit of karting years back.

Remember, up is up, and down is down.  Except when inverted - when down is up, and up can be very expensive

No it's an Epiphone Standard Faded, it is a 'Set Neck' model as opposed to the crappy bolt on neck versions, to be honest I'm not good enough to justify Gibson money especially as I generally play through a pod in to headphones.  The Squier Custom Telecaster is my favorite, the p90's give it a beefier sound than the standard Tele pups and it sounds and plays far better than the MIM Fender Strat I had a couple of years ago.

I tried guitar, but to be honest I'm just have no musical abilities.

I like making all sorts of models, tinkering with cars and plodding away with a (fairly cheap) fullsize homebuilt.

I shall finish my PPL too one of these years  ::)

Outside of modelling I'm an avid Trombone player of 12 years (quite a long time considering thats 60% of my life up to now). Play all sorts, recently played in championship section for a Brass Band competition, done 5 years of Jazz competitions and tonight I'm going to play with a reggae band. So only a little bit of variation! I also dabble in bass guitar on occasions.

Partial to a bit of walking/climbing and enjoy the odd long distance cycle route.

Oh and classic Saabs :)

Forgot to mention guitars in the first reply, I play a bit too, I've a genuine American Strat Plus which I dont like at all, a nice Simon & Patrick cedartop accoustic, a Yammy shortscale bass, a classical my late Dad made (his first, sweet as a nut) and my favourite, a cheap & nasty Squier Tele with a seymour-Duncan Hot-Rails stacked humbucker... its cheap & horrible but plays really well & sounds lovely. I bought it outside a Cash Converters after they'd offered some bloke a pittance for it. Gave him pittance-plus-a-fiver and we did the deal right there in the street.  I started playing at 40 so will never be any good, but I enjoy the way playing takes your mind away from your problems and worries.
Cheers
Phil
