New thread to keep it clean and tidy

Attached it the flyer/details and also the entry form
I require all the detail on this form, if you chose to email it to me of PM me here thats fine
but for the sake of knowing the number of people coming and also for the sake of sorting out classes before the pilots breifing please try to fill in the models,

I understand that fleets might change between now and then but its only for classes, the exact model does not matter
but an EG Vs a 3.5m electric F3B/J model would be a little unfair   :af

If you fancy camping (tents only)
Wowo Campsite - Sussex
It is gorgeous just near the bluebell railway, shefield park gardens
10 minutes from north Chailey, 30 minutes from the best slopes the South Downs Has to offer
and if you want B and B you must be prepared to pay the premium of the beautyful location, some of the local B and B's are about £70 per night :o
I know one of the local pubs has two guest rooms for a better price (Hornslodge south Chailey: The Cedars Pub & Dining | The Street, Binstead, Alton, Hants)

I think the plan is
that they will bring 6 height limiters and laptop to set height and we will take it in turns to use them
I doubt the course will be big enough for more than six gliders at any one time
we will mix hand tow and electric, people with tow lines and height limiters and people with out that way there will be more than enough  :af

I'm sad to have to report that Allen broke his big floaty glider he was planning to use at this event.   If he can't fix it in time he will be using a Multiplex Fox with rubber band power...

Is there a start time?  And any idea how long these things run?

I'm thinking something like "Roll up at 10am, bomb out badly, slink off at 3pm, go fly Firle in an attempt to regain self-esteem" (coz the Sunday forecast looks perfect for Firle) ... is that the sort of timing involved?

Or maybe it's more a "Turn up by 6am for military drill, persevere until 9pm" kind of deal?

I'm planning going to turn up a 8.30 set out the course (flags etc)
get the key for the pavilion, turn on the urn get a nice cup of tea and wait for the for the people that know it's a 9 for 9.30 start as on the flyer and for those that have no idea what time the start is that will turn up about 10  ::)

and the comp will last as long as it takes  $%&

the last time I ran this comp it was all finished by......... Oh I have not ran this comp before  :banghead:

well that's my tactics.....the only deviation being my 'bomb out' will be at about 10.05am

If I wasn't in Wales on the slope tomorrow, I think I would have been very tempted to have joined you, and bring back happy memories of Ashdown.  Have a great day everyone, and hopefully there will be lots of photos and a Paul W video to amuse those that aren't going.

Hope the day went well Allen.  Barletts was OK, but I didnt do too well, unable to muster enough mojo today.  Not much carnage either considering the wind.  Hope it wasnt too windy for you guys?

The event was a success in the fact that it was a good turn out and everyone seemed to have a great time.
The lift on the other hand was rubbish
I would like to thank everyone for a fantastic day and making all my hard work worth while
I would like to thank Paul W for showing me the massive floor in my scoring system
If you took off and landed straight away  you could get a 60 minute score
So a rule was added that you had to make the first four flags to quality Sorry Paul

Scores for the day

2 metre and under electric models

Andy Cambell                68 Minutes
Phil Clayton                   72 Minutes
Steve Hunt                    115 Minutes
Gary Parker                   151 minutes
Tom Noble                     156 minutes
Eric Friend                      Failed to make the first Four flags (battery life)
John Philips                    Failed to make the first Four flags (battery life)
Allen Elliott                     Failed to make the first Four flags (battery life)

Over 2 metre electric models

Martin Bell                      62 minutes
Bernie Jones                  92 minutes
Geff Bentley                   96 minutes

Hand tow models
Maximum respect for these guys as there was not enough lift for them to even make the first flag but they still gave it their all

Paul Westrup
Ray Wells
Clive Pellett
John Phillips

Thanks Allen for a great day.  It certainly was novel, hiking over hill and dale while trying to fly a plane that was either too high to see which way up it was, or low enough to get hidden behind trees!  I have even more respect now for the guys who do well at this sort of event.

(Me?  I'm sticking to slope soaring!  But I can tell some of the guys really enjoyed the chance to have an informal go at this sort of thing, and have now been inspired to get involved in the BARCS events, so that's a great result.)

My lawyer will be calling in the morning!!

It's a shame the combination of wind and site conditions conspired against hand towing, but it worked well for the electric models.

Thanks for the hard work Allen.

Allen, thanks very much for a great day.

In the results table, the entry you have for me is incorrect.

Instead of this:
Eric Friend                      Failed to make the first Four flags (battery life)

. . . it should read:
Eric Friend                      Crashed owing to cr*p piloting (Simon and Paul will confirm this) - battery life OK
Game plan - To make sure I got round the course I stuffed my pockets with three battery packs, but I was having a very off day - Murphy's Law applied.

Different to anything else I've done - it certainly was.

Tripping gazelle like along a bumpy path, dodging dogs and walkers whilst 'controlling' (yeh right) a glider?

No one told me it was THERE AND BACK, that was a LONG trek for this ageing modeller - still aching and dont mention the blisters..................

Got the tactics sorted now - toss it and run like hell .......................

Good stuff - pencil me in for next time.
 :af

Thanks Allen

What aircraft did the pilots have (so I know what to bring next time ;-) )

I was flying a Topmodels Astra cut down to 2mtr WS.

Its has very little dihedral so is not all that directionally stable but will turn really fast when required to get the 360 degree turns in.

You definately need something that will track along nicely and is HIGHLY VISIBLE so you can leave it alone whilst you nip along the track a ways.

be lucky

The winner of the over 2m electric was flying one of these I believe

It was an AVA electric so I'm guessing this was the one
