Hi Dave, just to let you know, she's flown, and fairly successfully I must say.

Here's a link to my thread - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1392801

It includes a video now.  :af

Still  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D .

Brilliant!

Makes me feel I got to get my finger out.  Today was the 1st decent day to spray the next coat of primer but no, i go flying instead. I'll get there one day!!

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave, I was wondering what was happening regarding your Mig ? Has she flown yet ?

Just in case you are in need of a Mig smile  :), I videoed mine again yesterday.

I cut a lot of boring, looking-for-the-spec-in-the-sky, bits out, but I thought the later part, (3 minutes in), might be interesting, 'hand launch'  :af

Oh! and the final insult on my comment 'I hate walking too far', I dropped her over the other side of the hedge at the end. No damage, but a very very long walk to retrieve her.  :embarassed:

Hiya
Still looks good in the air!

Tonight was the first time ive touched the model for 6 months due to a variety of reasons.  I had my first jet flight of a mates Eurosport a few weeks back and now the bugs crept back.

I had ambitions to make it as scale as possible but im now thinking that theres no need to go mad, just get it flying!  Concentrate on the scale for the next project!!

Progress so far?  Not much to see but the fus plug has has several coats of high build primer and hours of rubbing down.  Im now happy with its shape and all I have to do is build up a thick enough layer of primer to allow panel line without cutting through to the base material.

In the meantime, I want to master this art of plug and mold making before attacking the fus so ive ive had a bit more practise and made plugs for the various shrouds that go on the wing. . Unfortunately, all the plugs were trashed but i got the molds off them (still more practise needed with GRP!!)

All the castings came out of the molds well so I feel the problem is with the finish of the plugs. I used 2 pack primer which i was told is good as it holds more wax. Another mate said primer would stick like hell so use gloss top coat.  So gloss it is for next time!  I will also try pva release as well.

Although the bits look good, I feel they are a bit too "heavy duty". Now i have the molds,  I shall make some more with less layers!!

The bit ive been looking forward to, scribing in the panel lines.  Spent weeks looking at drawings and photos then drawing the panel lines onto the plug.  Once drawn i then scribed them out with a needle file.  It didnt take long to realise how boring this was so progress slowed a little but im pleased with the results so far as it seems to bring it to life.

When finished, the plan is to give it a light coat of gloss 2 pack then make the mould!!  Unfortunately,  disaster struck. It fell off its stand as i turned my back on it. Considering it fell 4 ft to the ground, i got of lightly but I'm still p****d off.  Time for a whisky i think!

Ouch - sorry to hear that Dave. Damage aside, it's looking really good though  :D

I need a new witty signature...

The projects been put on hold for a few months!!   I stumbled on a Graupner Hotspot that has never flown and decided that 1) I wanted to fly my home built engine in an airframe with at least some pedigree and 2) I wanted to fly a jet in the near future!!

Once the previous owners "handywork" has been rectified, I should be able to gain the experience that may make the difference to the success of the mig. :xx

Once this is up an running, the mig will take centre stage on the building board again!!

Cheers
Dave

I must admit the hotspot was one of the first jet models i ever saw in a mag and that lasting impression wouldnt go away.

A home built turbine, and an own design airframe too, you certainly enjoy a challenge!
Look forward to reading about your progress on the Mig soon I hope.  :study:

....or just mad! Sanity has set in though.  My engine can be a bit fiery on startup so i had decided that being outside the fus on a hotspot might be a good idea to get it in the air!!

I have pretty much decided that a commercial engine will go in the mig.

Cheers
Dave
