I am building this 1/4 scale from the Traplet plan by Herman Grobler for a friend. It will be powered by a CRRC Pro 26 petrol engine Has anyone else built one? So far so good, but there are lots of errors on the plan. Thus far I have managed to deal with them without too much trouble. In this picture the fuz top and bottom halves and cockpit structure are dry fitted together.

Just in case there is any interest out there I have made some progress. The mate I am building it for had a good chat with the owner of a similar model (built from the same plans) at Old Warden and took lots of pictures and videos which will help a lot.

watching with interest. have the build article somewhere for this and contemplated it but i seem to remember it was the lack of cowl that put me off. what are you using for a cowl

The cowl is a 10 inch aluminium saucepan, as per the plan!

Watching with interest, an unusual subject. :af  How twistable is that fuselage, noticed there are no diagonals?? What scheme are you doing?

The fus was noticeably twistable until the stringers were capped with 1/8 birch dowel, as per the plan, now it is quite stiff. I tacked the dowel on with cyano then followed with continuous lines of superphatic glue.
It will be covered with solatex, then sent to another mate Dave for painting, detailing and cockpit detailing. This guy won't even tell the eventual owner which colour scheme he has in mind! It will look special though, like all his work, and not like any of the photos on the web. This link shows him with an example of Dave's work.

A couple more photos showing firstly the under-floor installation of the pull/pull rudder and elevator servos. The second photo shows the bell crank setup for the elevator pull wires. I am particuarly pleased that I have managed to run the pivot on ball-races.

In the picture I see you have  the servo arms glued on the ball raced shaft , have you pinned the arms as well or are you relying on the glue only.

Just waiting for a delivery of Solartex and then some bits and pieces to finish the fus. I glassed the front end, which takes 36 hours to cure, this slowed progress somewhat. This will will be coverd in aluminium.

This is the first time I have used Solartex - it is fantastic - much better even than my former favourite Profilm!

Made the first six of the ten brackets that attach the wing to the fuz. Applied a little more aluminium to the gun emplacements and the front area.

Added a few scale details, not too many though, it's too easy to get carried away with the tiny bits and pieces.

I found mine rather sterile and lacking in any real atmosphere

Hi Stueysheep. Your phots and comments are really helpful and appreciated - For instance I was wandering what the small oval openings were on the real one - they are the exhaust pipes as I see on you pictures. I know what you mean about sterile looks - the one at old Warden was nice, but it looked like a model, if you get my drift. I want this one to look a wee bit battered/ distressed. :af

Tail rigging completed. It looks a bit on the beefy side more than I intended, but  it all works.
