Well for those of you that know me this will not be a surprise as I have been talking about it for long enough  :''

Glenn Torrance has had a few delays getting his new 1/3 scale kit together but it looks like it will finally be on it's way to me by the end of this week.  I am going to do an unusual scheme which is not for the light hearted  :co

Planned scheme.
Aircraft:      Fokker DVII (OAW) 4649/18 Jasta 65
Pilot:       Gefreiter (private) Wilhelm Scheutzel
Scheme:                  “Sieben Swabians” (Seven Swabians)

Brief details of the pilot.
Scheutzel joined Jasta 65 from Jasta-Schule II on 12 July 1918 and lasted until the end of the war.  He scored his one and only kill when he downed a DH4 on 13 August 1918.

This particular aircraft features artwork from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale the “Seven Swabians” on each side of the fuselage and a black crest with 3 yellow (golden) deer antlers on the spine.  The three antlers were the coat of arms of the Wuerttemberg Royal House, the kingdom also used the three lions of the Staufian Duchy of Swabia.

I have yet to draw the artwork but have been fortunate enough to make contact with Ray Rimell  et al, who have been kind enough to send me pictures of the aircraft at a better resolution than can be extracted from Windsock Datafiles and Anthology books.  Ray drew the artwork for the Windsock Anthology 3 and the Eduard kit of the model (which I recently purchased).

I will be running a full build thread on this on my web site as usual.  Picture below is taken from a sim which gives an idea of the markings (no copyright violations) ;), but the red colours need to be seen as chocolate on the actual aircraft for Jasta 65.

More to come soon!

Stuey, I have no idea how that got there.  First time I have seen it now youe have mentioned it.  Must be something to do with the Dawn Patrol boys when they set me up.

So all I can say to you is  :nananana: :nananana: :nananana: :nananana:

In this hobby growing up is an option !
hehehe

bob, I nearly got the BUSA kit.  tossed a coin and it landed on the GTM side!  I have purchased the Spad guns already and will be starting them as soon as I have my mustang finished :))

Good stuff mate, now get those stang rivets sorted and clear the bench  :ev :ev

I believe the construction is very similar to the D.VI construction, I'm looking forward to seeing it progress. Sooo (remind me) which did you go for? stick or dowel?

I just thought I would offer an update as there has been no post for a while.

Glenn has been making alterations to the model which have caused a delay.  Dispatch of the kit should be this week less the dummy engine, which will follow later.

While I have been waiting I have been tracing the artwork for the Sieben Schwaben characters.  I have been given some good info from one or two sources to help me and I don't think I am going to get anything better to be honest.  One side drawn up in 16 hours so far (and that's the easier side of the two!)  Another 7 characters and 2 rabbits remain.   Plenty to do then  :banghead:

I am beginning to see why few people take the challenge of this scheme!

Just a thought though. If you really tried (ie. put some proper effort in) you could get that Flightline Copyrighty bit a few points bigger, I nearly missed it :nananana:

Cheers Mudders,  it's the one I was looking at I think but not sure.

I am going to register it with the LMA as the 2 models built in the USA are coming out at 41 Lbs and 49Lbs.  I think I might have mentioned this to you.

Anyway better safe than sorry I suppose.

Dity paid and the box will be arriving tomorrow if all goes to plan!

OK Here we go.  The box was very well packed and everything has travelled well.  Outstanding parts include the cockpit kit, dummy engine, and front chin.  These parts are undertaking a little further work because Glenn says they are not quite right yet.

I will receive them in the next few weeks.

So first pictures are of the box . . .

The last picture is of a bag full of webs and other rectangular parts all laser cut from ply materials.

Next we have the Du-Bro Wheels followed by . . .

Aluminium mesh that will form the radiator.

And a roll of wire.

A bag of bits which I have yet to check over!

Next we have the Ammo box, which comes as part of the standard kit.  Not so with some of the other kits.

Another bag this time containing all the metal fixings etc. yet to be checked.

Ribs for the wings and undercarriage faring.

A selection of wooden parts yet to be fully identified (though some can be worked out)

We even get the J-Weld for the struts!

A part that looks like it may have something to do with the radiator!

The "N" struts and other wing supports are all stamped, sized and numbered!
The ply parts at the top of the picture are the wing tips I believe.

Carbon rods for the elevators, rudder and aileron parts. The other parts have yet to be identified.

Lots of balsa, spruce and dowel for the framework.

More wood parts, the Tail Skid is visible in the foreground.

The fuselage front formers made from sturdy ply wood and are really heavy items.

Fuselage formers from what I can see.

And a number of laser cut balsa and ply parts for various parts of the build.

Are you still following me . . . .  :co

Next we have the card templates to make the rudder and elevator frames.

Larger ply sheets for the fuselage some parts all pre drilled ready to go !

The Leading edge sheeting for the wings.

Metal sheet to make parts of the front faring with template sheets.

Next a small kit to build the pilots seat.

One of the interesting features of the kit is the option to have different versions of the D.VII from the various plants where the machines were made.  Glenn took my MID OAW machine requirement and used that as a basis for one of the options so I have a very good skin almost complete for the job.

Finally the instructions which run into several sections each individually stapled together.

And that's your lot for now!

Hi Neil, yes it looks pretty nice, it looks like it has been laser cut to me.  A very interesting way of creating a draught into the engine area without having much view in there.

It will be interesting to see how it fits inside the moulding which is on it's way soon!

MJ
PS just realised reply 32 is missing a picture.  It's the stock wood!

How ya' doing Stewey ??

It is indeed a nice looking kit.  I am just working on the Greenley at the moment so it won't be long before I start on this one.

Currently spending an hour a day drawing the Starboard Characters  :banghead:

Might be good to show at Gaydon if anybody is interested!
