All,

The canopy for the Glens Extra is now cut to shape and I'm ready to apply the RC Car spray to give it a bit of colour. Whats the best method for fixing? Screws or glue. I have some canopy glue that I used for the glazing on the junior 60 but I got it all over the place as its v.runny.

Any suggestions?

And what's the best trim to go around the edge with, bearing in mind I've got Ferrari red profilm?

I need similar advice for my Pica 65" Spit. Fitting the canopy is smething I've not been looking forward to. I also cut away all the excess, which I now know to have been a mistake, so will be following this thread with interest..!

I like the idea of using very small screws. I've seen it done using small diameter snake tobe to thread into..

Regards
Allan

I'm in the same boat as Andy too (well the one next to him anyway ;)) I would prefer to use screws, it would make it less hassle if I had to remove it.

I always use servo screws for canopy fixing. I glue some 1/4" doubler inside where the screws will go  and then some snake inner is inserted as a plug and glued in place. The snake inner grips the screw and stops it coming loose.

Zap's.............'ZAP a DAP a GOO II'.............superb stuff.

It looks like clear RTV Silicone, smells a little like old balsa cement, but sticks pretty much anything to anything. It's the only think I've found that does it reliably, none of the other 'canopy glues' work V well.

I have used this on all my models for the last 3 or 4 years, and never had even an edge start to lift.........brilliant stuff. You don't even need to skuff the plactic to get a key.......I just apply a thin beed through a 5ml syringe all the way round, plink it on, tape in place, and wipe off the excess.

It doesn't dry rigid, V slightly flexible, which is one reason it's soooo good....it does stay clear though.

No....I've used it direct onto film, painted tex, and glassed finishes......the film/tax does have to be well ironed down though.......

Colin,
Is that just a trade supplier? Anyone know who's the cheapest retailer seller of ZAP products? Ta.

Made my decision about an hour ago.....Screw it! ;D 5 small self tappers and seal the edge with some Model Technics trimline. See the Glens  Extra topic for a piccy.

Inwoods stock it...or at least they have done in the past.

it's a standard ZAP product.....shouldn't be a problem for any LMS to get it.

Clear Fablon is the stuff you want, you know, the stuff you used to cover your books with in school. You can buy it in sheets or on a roll. Cut it up into suitable strips and tape your canopy down, it goes round radiuses a treat. If in the future you need to remove your canopy the stuff just peels off. Unlike some adhesives which are a right b****r.

I use Solartrim, cut into strips of suitable width. It stretches nicely around compound curves and does not come off unless you want it to.

I like to permanantly "fix" the canopy using car body filler paste easy to do and very effective if you have patience and feather the edges off here's afixed then covered shot
