Dear All
Just to clarify, for those who have agreed to fly their models (scale/jet)
at the vintage glider rally at Tibenham.

It is now scheduled for Wednesday the 4th of August.
We are hoping to be able to start flying between 6 and 6:30pm
I will see if that can be brought forward

All models must have a throttle failsafe, this is to comply with the CAA exception for this event

I will arrive there during the early part of the afternoon to sort things out and
get our models ready for the display.

If anyone else would like to arrive early that will be fine.

The vintage glider rally is held once every ten years and the the pilots and their gliders
attend from all over the world.

I am looking forward to seeing some of these masterpieces of craftsmanship fly.

Regards Phil G.

Phew.......... so Betty is ok to bring and fly?  I can also bring the unfinished SE5a as a static model and if I can get it in a 1/3rd scale Little Toot (not warbird so probs not applicable) also for static display.

Does this require a "B" cert to fly Phil?

Dear Stuey

Most of the people but not all are glider modellers who will
be attending the event all or most of the week.

When I attended the meeting at Tibenham regarding this event some months ago.
There was no mention of us needing to register.

I have asked all of the jet/scale boys to register as a precaution,
while I clarify this matter.

I have also asked them to make sure that the glider boys know that
we will now be displaying on the Wednesday evening.

If there is any doubt, I will go down to Tibenham and sort this matter out.

And Shaun a minimum of an A cert is required.

I think it's a mistake, the website seems to be slightly flakey! I registered and it crashed and asked me to try again, which I did.  I now see there are two of me (perish the thought!).   Don't worry chaps, only the reliable one is turning up, the other is not to be trusted ::)

Must they be "scale" or will my Flair Legionnaire qualify.

If it does I will sign up.

Even if it does not I will be along to take some pictures if that's OK!

Dear NSS
We have this one covered, but you would be more than welcome to come along
and take some of your excellent pictures.

It is looking increasingly likely that there was no need for us to register for the event,
as we are an invited attraction.
That should be confirmed on Monday, if you have registered it does not matter.

A message will be posted on the model glider soaring website reminding them that we
will be performing on the Wednesday evening.

Hopefully this will clarify things for everyone concerned.

Phil

As one of the "glider boys" I can confirm that we are only planning to fly on the evening of Saturday 31st July, fullsize gliders and weather permitting obviously. We were also asked to register on the website but it has been useful as we then get the e-mails circulated.
Not sure if any local club members are planning to fly other evenings but thats all we know about.
If your flying on the wednesday is subject to the same restrictions as us (and I suspect it will be) then if any full size gliders are still out then you may not be able to fly until they are all safely on the ground.
We are just taking the view that it will be an enjoyable afternoon out and if we get any flying in the evening its a bonus.

Dear Pat
Thank you for helping to clarify things.

I am planning to arrive early afternoon, so that I can watch those
vintage gliders.

Yes I am aware we will have to wait until fullsize
flying has ceased. We are hoping for a 6 to 6:30 start.

I thought I might have seen you at Duxford today?

Hi Phil

Couldnt do Duxford on the Sunday, I would only have had my SDD Greenley to fly anyway and as its a tug and there were no gliders due to another big glider tow event at Newbury it would have been a waste of time......mind you I could have flown it with the Sky 120 and Genesis in a trainer slot :ev

Good job the Ghost Squadron bothered turning up on the Saturday though for the static display, without us it would have been a pretty empty site, there were only about another dozen models there  :o

One of my gliding club guys is going to this meeting I think. ( I heard them talking about it last week when I was at the club)
If you need any toys flying let me know as although its not very vintage, I have a half scale Fox turbine glider that can put on a half decent display.

Dear All
I have it confirmed from Tibenham, that we do not need to register
for the event, as we are invited guests.
Don't worry if you have registered it does not make any difference.

I am really looking forward to this, now that everything is sorted.
All we need to do now is get more power out of the engine
in our MK. XIV Spitfire.  ;D

Pat, you might be interested to hear that I am hoping to have my DB Hurricane
finished within the next five weeks, hopefully in time for a Battle of Britain event somewhere.
The Hurricane will be finished as Douglas Bader's machine, whilst he was at
Coltishall with 242 Squadron.

Hi Phil

Glad to hear that your Hurricane will be in the air soon, having spent the day at Duxford wandering around the planes I now have the hankering after another Hurricane and as I have the plans for the Rawle 1/4 scaler....................maybe next year :af

Heard some sad news the other week, the chap who bought my old Hurricane didnt get to fly it very long as he was found dead in a house of ill repute in Belgium :D

Dear All
I have just spoken on the phone with  the airfield manager at Tibenham,
to confirm everything is still in order for the Wednesday evening display.

Everything is in order and it is all systems go.
I am rearing to go and it will be nice to fly again at that historic airfield.

The weather forecast for Wednesday at the moment is, heavy rain in the morning and
clearing out in the afternoon (that sounds familiar) with light winds.

Dear Richard

Here you go, what are you bringing on Wednesday?

Tibenham Airfield
Norfolk
NR16 1NT

Our Spitfire has developed a technical problem so will not be appearing.
A shame that because it is a beautiful Spitfire to fly.

Instead I will be flying Muffler's YT 190
the EE Lightning and Jaguar.

Dear All
Here is a link to the webcam (not pupcam ;D) at Tibenham.

norfolkglidingclub.com/webcam.aspx

I did not think it was a good idea to link to it from this site.
Just copy and paste into your address bar, complete with
http://www.

It looks like they are having a good time there.

Hopefully you should be able to see us in action tomorrow evening,
if you want to of course.

I should be arriving at Tibenham at about 1:45pm.
The weather is due to clear in the afternoon.

The webcam is looking brighter already and the BBC Diss weather forecast is looking promising (don't check BC Norwich weather!).  I think wellies may be in order if the grass is going to be wet though, hate walking in wet grass with sandals and I live in sandals.
