sooooo.....

I saw GC have reduced the Corona 2.4 hack even further, then I saw people have been making it an external module running through the training port. Theres some nice slopes on my peninsula that I cant fly due to a power club being close by...

For £19 with rx I thought I'd give it a go anyways.

It'll allow me to gorilla fly, I'll test it ALOT before and if it ever goes near anything thats £££ or I care about.

Thanks. Worth a read. I've just bought the MPX Velcro on module for my SX. The only plane left on 35 is the Brio until I work a conversion but its nice to have the SX as a spare 2.4TX for the EasyG and the like. Somehow a 4000 and an EasyGlider don't seem "right" together...

Ah but if you run MPX Pro TX's you only need a 6 which is £20 cheaper  :af

And the five is cheaper again!

You can buy cheaper - but better - probably not!

Agreed, luckily the fact I didn't have too many 35MHz Rx made it easier, and as noted the 4000 lets me run a 6 servo plane with the 6Ch Rx. What they need is to make the SX Channel assignable. Not going to happen though is it? Anyway it should help keep the fleet down to a reasonable number...

As I mentioned some people have had no issues, my son is one of them he has used v2 dsss for well over a year with no probs in a foamy. but and its a big but im not the only one to expierience the faults with v2 dsss ie loss of link.I suppose its down to what your going to be flying.I used dif rxs and dif modules and I lost link 7 times in three months, I then decided enough is enough time to change brands.

Hey Chaps

Up until 5 minutes ago I had no plans to go 2.4...

5 minutes ago I was browsing Giant Cod, thought I'd check 2.4 prices... £23.18 for a DIY module and 8ch RX, cheapo chippo me thinks!

A little more reading shows people fitting these to Cockpit SX's... hmmm me thinks!

All reviews look good.... mmmmm hmmmm me thinks!

A couple of clicks later and I've ordered the module and RX plus an additional 8ch RX for less than 40 nickers.

Now I'm mainly flying mouldies and more fragile stuff (non foam) I thought it a good idea for when I'm out flying with others at Staggy and when I'm out gorilla flying.

Was this a good idea?... only time will tell.

I'll let you know how I get on as other may like this cheaper option of 2.4.

You're my bench mark Rog :)

I had two hours of solid testing yesterday and not a single hick-up.

I do wonder whether the issues people have had was with the earlier gear, converting Futaba sets with the corona futaba module seems to be a common factor. I havent seen a single bad report RE the hack module I'm using.

A question for you Rog

Theres talk of glitching on GC when using channels 7 & 8 or something, how have you got on with you crowed models? Again this seems to be related to Futaba users and was happening some time ago. I tested it last night in my old Ocelot and all seemed fine.

I'm going to order up a another TX hack unit & RX, I dont need another TX unit but for the extra couple of quid I may aswell have it incase I want to convert my other TX.

Pasty, I think I can answer your glitching question,  I had an early Corona V2 module in an FF7 and certain control positions would generate a glitch.  On mine it was most notable on the gear switch.  I cooked that module trying to fit it into an FF6, but that's another story.  I replaced the module a couple of months ago, and that module worked perfectly with none of the glitching of the earlier version.  The receivers also locked on faster on switch on, and reconnect if the tx signal is lost for several seconds, which the early ones wouldn't.  Corona must have updated the software in the last year as it was a different beast to the early V2 release.
flying's easy - it's getting it back down in one piece that's the hard part

Thanks Rob  :af

The initial binding and subsequent rx lock on is pretty much instant with the gear I bought last week.

It would seem that past issues are now solved and the Doom and Gloomers need to get with the times.

yes it probably was the version 1 it was in a glider not to far away lost all signal and went in got it back to car re bind and all worked ok , so tried again after about 3 days and several flights later same again, this was when I took the decission to go to futaba.

never looked back

good luck to all who are still trying but in expensive gliders in my opinion not worth it

How can you say that when your experience isnt of the latest versions.

Thats like saying "I had a skoda once, the crappy car even had the engine in the back! only buy one of the new ones if its got a sun roof and you can use it as a skip."

When in fact Skoda's are now a bledy good car.

I'm not saying that this current crop of Corona gear is faultless, nor am I defending it... but what I'm not a fan of is sweeping statements based on little or no experience of the actual product we're talking about.

I wont take chances with any of my expensive or precious models, I'll test the system  fully over the coming months before it goes anywhere near an expensive moulded ship.

In the mean time I have plenty of inexpensive homebrew gliders to smash up... better order me some more corona 2.4 rx's  :P

Interesting that in your ad you say it wont bind unless the tx and rx are more than a metre apart, my none brand specific hack version binds when sat right next to each other.

Thanks but I'm going to get another hack module and RX while they're cheap at GC.... never been a fan of the whole ebay thing.

My DIY hack module version doesnt have any of those foibles, it binds with TX & RX right next to each other, it does the initial bind in a second or two, after the intial bind I turn on the TX first and then the RX and control is instant.

The DIY hack module is the latest of the breed and would seem they've made yet further improvements.  :)

Word up Scott

As has been talked about in this thread (you mean you havent read it all?! ;)), the early V2 gear did have issues but now seems to be sorted.

Oh and it was the futaba/hitec module that had the issues, from what I can tell the JR module and the subseqent DIY module were not effected.

I've had around 4hrs flight time on my diy hack module now and I'm yet to see any balls of flame...

am I dicing with the devil?!

it sure is exciting living life on the edge  ;)

Steve (et al)

Bought my Corona V2 JR module and a Rx in October last year to take a model to Oz when I visited my sister.

Although no glitches ever seen, it did need a distance of ~3' between Tx and Rx to bind and would then take maybe 10+seconds to come to life.

After reading here that the latest ones might have cured these "problems" I just ordered and have received a new module from GC.

IT'S TRUE- it will bind first time with the Tx right next to the Rx, and only takes a second or two (max.) to start up.

So looks like in the past ~year Corona have addressed and solved this problem   :af
