Hi folks,
This is my new F5 from the Feibao kit range. To me this is a stunner :P  The overall quality is very good and the scale cockpit is ace. I will fit a Wren 160. I have not fitted all the drop tanks(4) yet.

I may start a build thread if I knew how to put pictures on easier lol.
Cheers Richard.

Hi Richard, looks great  :af

Could you do me a favor if you have time? Would you mind posting pictures of the ordnance you received with the kit as well as the pylons.  Phil has just started to paint mine and I was going to start making the tooling for the pylons and ordnance but if the FB stuff is accurate I'll just order it from AceJets, will save me weeks of hard work.

Many thanks and looking forward to watching your build.

Cheers, Alex

Hi Alex,
Ordanance and pylons as requested:

These are very good quality like the rest of the kit.

I recommend anybody looking for a jet kit consider the Feibao range. These are excellent value for money and appear to be of higher quality than some others.

The Skymaster wings have 4 sets of threaded inserts buried into the bottom skins if that's of any use Alex...............(same in the tips for the missile rails as well)

Hi Richard, pretty looking model, and yes I would like to follow your build :af

BUT, RICHARD S. BUILDING JETS :o it's like Ali going over to train sets ;D

On a serious note, after reading about Colin Strause's experience in the latest RCJI, I'd give that airframe a thorough inspection, these far eastern company's seem to be a bit hit & miss with the glue gun from what I've read :study:

Other than that Good luck chap, looking forward to it :af

A problem that crops up from time to time is that they have not glued the spars to the skin along their entire length and that unglued section becomes a potential failure point.  The manufacturers generally rely not on good fitting parts as those can require fettling which takes worker time, but a huge gap which will be filled with glue, and sometimes the glue doesn't bridge the gap at some points.  It is not only on the cheaper far eastern jets, my AD F-100 wing had a section of a couple of inches length where the gap had not been bridged.  Get a mirror on a stick and a torch and search as far down into the wing (and tailplanes too if possible) to look for gaps, and pour in suitably thickened epoxy if needed.

Thanks Phil I'll look into it...

Its imperative a firm positive control check is made with this sort of set up i.e. lock the stab in place and twist it by hand there should obviously be no give.  It's something I've always done on flying stabs similar to the F5's.  If it gives in at this stage it won't survive long on the air.

All glue joints and spars look okay to me  :af
Been doing the task of planning and installing all the airlines for the doors and airbrakes on fuselage trying not to forget one. ::). Once that done will start on all the servo leads. Trying to get as much done whilst the fuz is in 2 halves. It will be a pain to move around when in one lump :''
Cheers Richard.

Rich

Any photos you have of air ram placements for the inner door and speed brakes would be V useful........don't see the point in trying to reinvent the wheel on the one here if you're example of a prooven setup.

Cheers

Just been making up the fuel tanks. Done a fluid measure, can't believe it the 2 tanks hold 4.2 lts. Thats more than my L39. Thats good cause I can now use a bit more throttle :''

For most people 4.2 ltr's would probably be 5:30 minutes safe,
in your case it will probably be 4:30 minutes.  ;D
But please don't change.  :)

I am looking forward to Os on Sunday.  :af

I will have you know I only fly my L39 half to 3/4 throttle most of the time and can manage 6.30mins with 3.5lts on a good day LOL :nananana:  I think this F5 though Phil will be a bit more slippery though and I will have to use throttle management wisely ::)

Lozza.. those pics are awesome!!

I seen them in the same place when i was skiing a few years back.. watching them in tight formation flying underneath me in the valley was something else.

Just for your information richard.. the take of speed on the model is quite quick.  This is due the real aircraft having an extenable noseleg to change the angle it sits at.. obviously the model doesnt have this

read on RCU donkeys ok that a bloke from the states done that and says it worked a treat.. a piece of 1/4 ply would probably do the trick.

We have a nice long runway so arent too bothered. but we have also went through two sets of tyres  ^-^

I agree, Unless it is excessively heavy 4.2 litres with good throttle management should give you a lot more that this. I had about this volume in my Eurosport and set my timer at 8.5 minutes. Mostly I fly with a mixed throttle setting but some days I fancied a brains out day and gave it a damn good thrashing. I never ran dry. The best idea is to leave your timer as normal and the empty your tanks into a measuring jug to see how much you have left. Then you can get a better idea of how long you really have until Bingo time.

Richard.

That's the first time I've seen any mention of high temp tape Richard, so thanks for the info.  I'm new to internally-mounted turbines with a tailpipe.

Is the aluminium tape applied directly on the fuselage skin inner surface, with the ceramic blanket wrapped round the tailpipe (presumably secured with a few loops or a spiral wrap of wire ??) or is there a layer of ceramic blanket beneath the alumn foil?

If the latter, how do you secure the ceramic blanket to the fuselage?

My next jet will be all-wood with a MW44 exhausting through a Wren single-wall tailpipe, and I've been pondering the heat insulation requirements.  So any help will be very much appreciated  :)

Thanks

Gordon

I used Evo stik in an aerosol to stick my ceramic blanket to the fuz, then covered with my high temp self adhesive aluminium tape. This was purchased from Tapes Direct in Bedford.
