Thanks MJ, that's really really good, thank you, I appreciate that.

Scans would be ace and preferable too, I tend to lose paper/magazines anyway so best kept away from me...  ::)

So, it's gonna be blue then.

Or light grey I believe.  I think the light blue would look nicer  ::)

I have the same questions over the colour on my DVII fuselage.  I have seen references from grey to light blue as for your flea.

I think most people go for the blue because it perceivably "brings it to life" from the black and white pictures of the day.

I have also got a compass drawn for the top wing.  Would look cool if it could be a functioning instrument  ;D

Thanks Nigel, that information is aceage..  :af Another valuable bit for the puzzle.

The 3 view really shows an undercamber so i am really pleased I committed to that design.

During my lunch hour today I sneaked int the garage and now have 80 of the 160 rib notches installed....  :af

QUESTION.

How would you fret out the Plywood Ribs?

1) Carefully

or

2) With a fret saw

or

3) Slowly

Sorry, Stuey couldn't resist  :nananana:

Although, all 3 answers would be involved!

If it is anything like mine, you loosen off a tension screw, unclip one end of the blade (they have a cross-pin at each end) insert the workpiece then reverse. Perhaps 30 seconds per change once you get into the swing of it - and if you don't drop the blade into the closed area below the saw table :embarassed:

See Reply #67 on: November 22 it's some sort of drill bit on the end for initial penetration then a spiral router bit of about 1/4" diameter.  I could do with buying some new ones as mine were rather worn and did burn if I dwelled on a spot.

I routed mine with a mini router upturned in a vice, yes it's dangerous but didn't have any near misses so if you are careful it's ok and quick.

Stuey - Cone cutters can be very useful for cutting holes of whatever size you want up to the max dia:

Offline sequoia wrote Re: DFW T-28 Floh - Scratch Build from a 3-view on December 09, 2010, 12:58:31 PM
The biggest cone cutter in the pic is 22.5mm dia. I tried it in some 3mm ply this morning and it cuts a reasonably smooth hole, though tears the grain a little, (but it's a bit worn - had it for ages and used it a lot), though it tidies up well enough with sanding.

Alternatively, if you found yourself approaching the junction of the M25 and M4, you could make a 5min detour clutching your rib set, and we could drop it into the Sequoia magic hat, sprinkle a bit of milledCNC star dust, and out they'd pop, with some nice holes in them whatever shape you'd like. It helps that there's not many of them, they are all mostly the same size, so one little jig set up would do them all.  Glad to contribute a little to the Dawn Patrol.  :af
You could post them of course, but you may not want to trust your handiwork to the perils of posting at Christmas, and there's also the cost of insured postage both ways, though I guess Royal Mail Special D wouldn't be too much ...

And given the amount of personal attention you've given this project, you might think that it would be cheating ...  :''

But the offer is there, if it helps... - Roger

Kind of got side tracked selling the Tiger Moth and going over my fleet to get it ready for this year's flying.  :)

Also a Thunderbolt has found it's way in and that's being fettled now...  ;)  and an Outlaw muscled it's way through over Xmas..  :ev. Next up is to get the 1/4 Camel ready and I may then think about routing out Floh ribs...  :study:

Oh, and I need to get shot of the trailer and the Omega too cos they are in the way.  :uk:

Many thanks to "alanh" it looks like I have a muffler in the post to me now for my Zenoah 22. So I have rigged up a test mount to see if it will work once I get the muffler.. Successful running will mean I have an engine for the Floh!

Good old black and decker workmate tied to a trailer!

Have fitted an old 22 by 10 prop from my Zenoah62 Greenly tug to se ifit will run....
Just need the muffler now....

.....mmmmmmmm call me impatient, but, well, wouldn't you give it a few flicks just to see if it will start....

Engine seems to max out well although it does want the mixtures sorting once the muffler is on.... so am hoping a 28" prop is a goer...

It has plenty of pull for my needs.

Couldn't tacho it yet, cod, salmon and chilli fishcakes were ready!  And I need good sunlight for the tacho to be accurate as the flourescent lights 50hz does cack up the readings...

Muffler fitted and it completely changed the carb settings.. I couldn't start it at first but now it's easy to start from both hot and cold, holds a good high end and throttles well.

Next step will be some "rpm" checks tomorrow, would have been today but we had new neighbours move in....  :o
