Ever seen a model and longed to see it fly? Well Mr Sheep aquired this moth some time ago, built by Peter Neate,  I'm not sure when, although looking at the cockpit I'm guessing 1992 (dectictive smiley)  ;). I managed to prise it from Stuey grubby little hooves just after xmas and have been giving it the once over ready for flight.

Here are some pictures of it in it's hay day,

The model has been cleaned up (one pack of baby wipes  ;D ) The radio is spectrum now, 2x rx's on 2 new 3300mah sub C cell packs. I changed the servos from old JR jobbys and now have 2x HS645mg on the rudder. The elevator was one piece, with the 2 servo's linked with a bar to (in thery)  give half movement should one fail, unfortunatly this did not work well at all so I split the elebvator, fitted 2x Hs645mg and a new additional bell crank so each ele is on a different rx and they can work independantly. 2x 645mg's see the ailerons sorted. Of course all tail surfaces then had to have new pull-pull wires, I copied the original method for this.
I replaced the windscreens as the old had gone yellow how plastic does over time  :)

I haven't got any piccys yet since the refurb or even put it together fully, at 111" it's a bit large for the living room  :uk:

I have checked the felt clunk, replaced the fuel tube and run the engine up. Alls well there.

I'll get some up to date piccys when I can get it together  :study:

Hi Mark,

Yes, the engine mounts onto the exhaust which in turn mounts on the firewall, this model came as a kit, the exhaust was a optional extra I believe.

I hope by starting this thread to uncover more of the models history  :xx :study:

I forgot to say, the luggage compartment is functional so I have removed the standard switches installed in the cockpit and fitted HD switches with charge points in there, hidden of course   :)

While I have no intention of altering the external finish or indeed being 'de-nutted' why do you say that Uncle Alb?

i dont want this to sound off but........

why dont i ever hear of models like this forsale  $%&  :'(

the wife has said i can have a 1/3 tiger cos she likes the tiger moth too but i really dont fancy building one. ho hum i shall keep my eyes open, and wallet at the ready for the right model :D

one thing that had crossed my mind was the possibility of forming a spin off from the dawn patrol and creating a 1/3rd scale tiger club!!

ps i dont think tigers should be nice and clean and shiny, show that they haven't been flown enough :)

until the RCMF Fly In!!

Put some adds up, Wanted  . Try the LMA  , BMFA , RCSB  and on here.
Thats your best bet.
These are not 1/3rd scale but 30%. Most of the kit ones and plans are 30% for some reason. Still a big model though.
Be aware that the wings take up an awful lot of space storing and transporting them unless you de rig them every time which is a pain.
Good luck in you search.

The real one has a wingspan of 29ft 4"
1/3rd scale would be 117"
My one is 105" which is 30%
You say yours is 111" so thats in between.??

I have some photos of the same aircraft. The only difference is that it is the real one, photographed at Roborough, Plymouth, in January 1964, and it's me in the cockpit as a 17-year-old  BRNC Dartmouth cadet  :D :D   Dear dead days.

I could have sworn that model was the real thing. Brilliant. How much are you asking  :ev :ev

The pics are box-Brownie standard and stuck in my old log book, but I'll do what I can. Frankly, the model looks rather more real than the real one  ;D  Our instructors were a bizarre father and son team called Lucas (surname).  My log book has them as Mr Lucas Jnr and Mr Lucas Snr. I already had my PPL by then courtesy of an RAF Flying Scholarship, but the weather in Jan 64 was so poor that we weren't aloowed to solo. I remember one day 20 mins stationary above Plymouth  ;D   I also have subsequent photos of me in a Sea Vixen cockpit looking somewhat stricken.

Still want that Tiggie, Mudders  :ev

Aye up Mudders

I remember Ken Binks talking about flying your Tiggy at a show sometime early 1990's .Ken has given up flying so I haven't seen him for years. Iv'e got a practical scale one which looks OK from about 20 feet  :'' but it flys a treat on an un-geared Z38 and a 22x6 prop.  :af  Im up for a go at formation flying but I have not renewed my LMA membership because I am still on 35 meg and don't want to change.

It's nice to see that dad's model has caused so much interest & I'm very pleased that Matt has got it & has restored it to flying condition.  Can't wait to see it in the air again.  Looking back through dad's diaries I reckon it has only been flown on 10 occasions give or take, so it hasn't done a lot of work.

I was very interested in seeing the pictures of the real thing, how nice!

Yes, you are correct, Ken used to fly for dad.
I think you'll find it is a 1/3rd scale model as percentages weren't used back then

Hi

What 2.4 modules compatible with JR are recommended? I have a 3810 tx  as a standby I could convert
I haven't done much show flying but I do hold a B cert ( Ken Binks was the examiner so its really a B + ! ) I don't know the location of all the shows, can someone help please. The Hastings club are running 3 fly-ins this year all with free camping/flying, the dates are on the Shows thread . Steve Spittle usually turns up with his 30% Tiggy so there should be two of us . The more the merrier.

Thread about hack modules

This is not a "hack" it's a plug in module replacement for the 35mhz no soldering involved.
