This is my Popsie build, I like to go my own way on some things so it's not exactly to plan but near enough.

I've been building it for a little while, I got the kit just after Christmas - thanks John and Maz.

I have been too busy to post any pics up to now.

First off laminating the bottom longerons

I use polythene sheet to stop the parts sticking to the plan.

I decided to simplify the fuse a bit.

I use this gadget to mark the upright pieces

I square the ends on my abrasive wheel thingy

I left out some of the upright pieces because I was going to assemble the fuse on my SLEC jig

That's all I have time to do for the moment, more to come.

Mornin Bert, i do like the wheel thingy :af

Build is looking good. That little gadget, is it just 3 lumps of wood zapped together?? All squared off?

It's never easy to understand why memories hold our hand, and people let go.

It's a piece of hard wood with two bits of 5mm glued to it.

I can line it up with the plan and mark the wood with the scalpel.

The abrasive wheel is very helpful for getting the ends square, something I alway have trouble doing.

Hi Bert, I have done my fuz sides the same way. Don't forget to make a left and right. I packed up the panels for the left side, including the tail end one, with scrap bits of 2mm to bring them flush with the top of the stringers. I also in-filled the area between F4 and F5. You will also need to trim the floor, servo tray, F3 and F4,on each side by the thickness of the panels, but I'm sure you already know this ;D

Bert,
Would you also like a modified cockpit floor like we did for Tomkfly? it takes into account that you've done the fuz sides flush rather than stuck on top.

Let me know if you want one and I'll post it out.

Thanks  for the info Tom, and the kind offer John  :af but this build is in advance of the posting IYSWIM.

I've been so busy building (and working) that I haven't had time to sort out the photos and post them here.

But it's lunchtime so I shall dutifully get some more posted.

A couple of fuselage sides

Cut some strips off the formers

Trim down the cockpit floor

I want to be able to get to the ESC through the cockpit so I bored some 'oles with my trusty Softbore kit

And joined 'em up with my Stanley knife and ruler

More Softboring on the next former

And another hole appears!

Just a bit more of my lunchbreak left so some more of the same.

I wanted to change the U/C to have less wire in it and a bit more give, only time will tell if it's any good or not.
This is the front.

And this is the back, or is it the front?

Hang it all together

and it all goes into the SLEC jig - no bananas for me!

A few more clamps might have helped

That's my lot, work calls. I'll post some more tomorrow if I get the time.

Bert

Just ordered a SL09 for mine and a SL06 (cos it's so dinky ;D)
Cheapest I found was MoorModels: http://www.moormodels.co.uk/acatalog/Super_Custom.html

Like your undercarriage idea  :af. I think I might just borrow it, if you don't mind.
I assembled my fuz in my hand. It jigs together so well it would be difficult to end up with a banana.
Trying to decide which is the best way to go with the wing attachment. I will probably end up with rubber bands, just don't like having the dowel passing through the windscreen.

My Popsie will be electric powered, I did think of puting a diesel in it at one point but decided against it.

It does all fit together well as you say but using the SLEC jig is almost a reflex action for me  ;D

I have a bit of time so I shall post a couple more pics

A look at the wing now I think, I cut the slots in the trailing edge with a Permagrit needle file.

I am going to make the standard RE wing first but I am going to knock up an aileron wing as well.
Not being organised enough to order extra wing parts from John and Maz I am going to cut them out myself.

So I made some ply templates

Later on I changed the W3 rib a bit but this comes later.

All pinned down, I thought I'd make the tailplane at the same time

Fit the leading edge

No offence intended to the late and very great Vic Smead but I have never liked the way he does that last rib.
It doesn't look so good when it's covered IMO but maybe that's my covering skills (lack of)  ;D
So I changed the rib a bit to fit the wing tip parts.

I built the centre section straight on the bottom sheet

Sanding the ends of the spars to the dihedral angle. The top spar will go on once the halves are joined.

That's it for now, I have to do some work.

Tom, I find the balsa block at the wing's leading edge is sufficient to hold it at the front and I'm using a single 5mm nylon bolt at the back.  I seems to be quite firm and no rubber bands or dowels in sight.

I've been using a SLEC fuselage jig for years and they're very useful.  Worked a treat with my Popsie, too but I did fit all the verticals/diagonals as per the drawing.  As Tom said, the cockpit floor jigs the whole thing together very well.

I haven't had much to post on my build recently because covering isn't very exciting or instructive.

I'm watching this with interest and hoping it won't reveal many glaring errors in my own build :D  Looks fine so far.

Geoff

Thanks Geoff, I have decided not to go with the rubber bands and did wonder about just locating the leading edge in the balsa block, but I still haven't decided exactly how to shape it and being a belt and braces pessimist  glued a couple of pieces of light-ply, between the spars on the two outer areas of the centre section, to support the rear end of a couple of dowels. I have also filled in the rear end of the middle area to stop it being crushed by a bolt.

It's lunchtime again so I have time to post some more.

I thought about not going with the rubber bands, there are a number of ways to hold the wing on but in the end I have gone for the postman's friend.

A lot of other designers of yesteryear were keen on block fairings for the centre section, this is how I did it.

I marked out the supplied block by placing it in the top of the cabin and drawing round it. Then I bandsawed it roughly to shape.

I marked out the ends by holding the centre section in place and drawing round the aerofoil section. My bandsaw doesn't have a very deep throat so I sawed the block in half.

Then (watching my fingers) I roughed out the shape

et voila!

A bit of work with these boys

and it gets to look a bit more like what we want.

I glued 'em back together with PVA.

And a trial fit

A bit of rough shaping and glue it to the centre section

and finish it off

and then stick the wings on it.

That's my lot, lunchbreak is over and I have to get back on my head (old joke)

I will post some more on Monday, I won't have time over the weekend (too busy building)

Not too much interest in this but I will press on

Fitting the top spar

This is how I shaped the top spar to fit the tip. The sheet of thin ply stops the file from removing the bits I wanted to keep.

This is how the tip came out

Now for the supports that connect the leading edge to the centre section.

I glued the pieces together and cut a V in the front to match the rear of the leading edge.

Then, after sanding it to match the dihedral angle I glued it in place

A bit of sanding

To make the covering job easier I made a false riblet to provide a 'land' .

That's it for now, back to the fuse later

It works ok for me, I tried a different (easier) way from the info in the Greenfinch thread.

I have now put them in the 'old' way so you can see them.

Maybe I should just use the 'old' way.

Oh there interest, maybe we should speak too ;)

Seriously though, watching to see how different solutions to the same problems are sorted - such as wingtip, centresection sheeting etc.

No, all I am seeing is little boxes with a red X in them.  All the pics prior to that post are fine, I've tried using Firefox and Google Chrome as well as IE and it's the same.

Shaping the top spar, the plywood piece stops the wingtip from wearing away.

This is how the tip turned out

Now for the leading edge supports, I stuck them together and filed a V to fit the L/E

Glued and pinned

and shaped a bit

I hope these come out ok

Back onto the Fuse

I made a v shaped bit to go in the back end

Filled in the bit behind the cabin

Put the top on the cabin (after cutting it down to size)

Assembled the front end

And the planking

Add the rear of the cabin and the stringers

I though I would insert a piece of block to finish it neatly

I like this Permagrit stuff

Coming along now

Yes Nigel, I can see that one okay, but if you look at the code for the ones we can't see, (see below), compared with the code in your post.  I don't know if that's related to the problem $%&  All Bert's pics that I can see have similar code to yours.

NOTE... I've edited both quotes by replacing the opening '[' with a '{' to show the code.
