All I seem to witness these days is a lot of stupid, irrelevant bickering.  I see useful topics completely destroyed by drivel, meaningful questions met by yet more ridiculous rhetoric.

We've sadly just administered one ban for what I'm afraid to say was one of the worst personal attacks I've witnessed in my 10 years doing this and, at another member's request, I have deleted his account.  It's just not good enough. Come on guys, play the game eh!

Does it matter?

If all would just take a second or too before hitting the post button it would make things so much nicer.

Wiz, I've noticed that too. Shame really, don't know what the answer is but suspect asking people to play the game isn't it.

I agree but it's a start. I'm fearful of "over moderating" but at the same time making it a place people want to visit. I see the point, if every time you walked into the same pub you got punched, you'd probably stop going to that pub!

Think you and the other mods are doing a great job Wiz.
I'm on a few boards at work (have nothing better to do with my time at work)
and you deal very well with some highly opinionated, delicate souls on here.
Hugely entertaining place to visit.

I agree with your opinion that things seem to get quite tetchy quite quickly just now, must be the weather.
Your and the other mods time is much appreciated.
Thank you.

If it's the incident I think it might be, where I missed the actual post, then it's nothing to do with the weather. In that case it might have been the heightened sensitivity of someone capable of empathising with probably hundreds of people dying on live television before his eyes, being put up to proof by a defence of a particular mode of power generation.

Under such circumstances nerves might conceivably get a bit frayed and people react accordingly.

If it's not, then ignore all of the above.

Wiz, pour yourself a nice coffee (or something stronger), sit down in a comfy chair and go and read the thread about Harriers and hovering. PDR absolutely excells for good reason in this thread which is very educational to say the least. It's this sort of thread that this forum excells at in the past and will continue to do so in the future. There are odd flare ups and I've been in the middle of a few, that of course is life, don't take it too much to heart.

Exactly! Dont get upset, just delete!  ;D It proved to me the absolute worth of the forum, (and the quality of the forumites) with the crisis Maz faced, and the way it all pulled together. There was a strong sense of family at that point, and it was great to see. Its a GOOD thing!  :af

I agree 100% on that John. In the past Pete has had his critics, and without deliberately embarrassing the bloke, he's a mine of information.. That one thread has gone into aerodynamics to a degree I'm not sure I've seen anywhere else on here before. I know Pete hasn't been the only contributor, but as far as the thread subject is concerned, it's mainly down to him.

Yourself and Pete were fundamental in the little bit (well, perhaps not so little!) of joy we brought to Maz late last year, and everyone agreed it was the lift we needed in the dark days and cold winter..Feel good times!  :co

It's a shame that someone has been moved to request their account be deleted, and sad too that a ban has been brought in. My hand should go up I suppose when it comes to being over 'passionate' on certain topics and posting same..  :embarassed:

What does get tiring is when you get the same people stirring, particularly in the pub. They offer noting to the thread, but put in a quote and throw out a one liner designed to get the rise out of people. Thank heavens for the ignore function  :af

To my mind the problems start when individuals move from debating the topic (where they might have diametrically opposed views that they feel strongly about and defend passionately) to personal attacks.

As soon as someone starts playing the man not the ball problems seem to follow in short order.

And something tells me you don't get too upset about that!

The post about personal attacks is right... I'm a laid back sort of guy anyway but the twitchy people who lose it when challenged really need to calm down a bit. If they go brought life like that I dread to think what they have to go through - and what they put their friends and family through!

Wiz, can you just ban certain people from a thread if they misbehave?

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!
So that's where I've been going wrong...

Naa mate, if you want real contempt, tell em you work for the IR, are a solicitor, are an estate agent, a politician (not strictly a profession), or work in PR. More often than not, those who have an 'issue' with the The Police are the ones who have had reason to be up close and personal with them-not always, but more often than not.

I see that some hard but needful decision has been taken. Not an easy task.

There are always events that stir some people, sadly some also mainly wish to incite ill will.  I am very pleased to know and confirm we have a strong team on here, and I doubt many will dissagree with that.

I cvould be wrong on this one wiz..

But,

People are suffering a lot with the way things are going financially and the stress that can cause can come out in various different ways. Less tolerance, less patience, quicker to anger, less thought about what is posted.

Yup i posted carp on the thread where email addresses were being debated about, i did that as things seemed to be getting a bit heated and i just wanted to lighten things up a bit.

I saw the post in question and was astounded by it i have to say, and the subsequent post. didnt seem right to me, it didnt seem like him at all. Maybe its coz im female but i notice how people post, so i can spot when someones out of kilter just by how they post. I know when im out of kilter my posting is different.

weather is crud, opinions differ, debates get heated, people get narked, people may feel misunderstood, people feel that they are right and the rest of the world is wrong, tempers flare then bam. a crack appears and then its game over.

I dont think its all down to the weather and lack of flying, i think maybe for some, the stresses of real life are getting in the way of trying to relax on this most excellent of forums.

Just my thoughts anyway.

It's never easy to understand why memories hold our hand, and people let go.

I think that what Marian says has a lot of truth in it. Rotten weather, a lot of people seeing real incomes falling, a lot of people wondering if their job is safe, and a seemingly never ending series of disasters such as the New Zealand and now Japanese earthquakes, stories in the press that seem t fly in the face of natural justice, etc.
Here's hoping warm weather returns and we hear some good news for a change.

As I heard in an interview the other day (I think) - when the Police are called to intervene in a situation, at least one of the parties is going to feel aggrieved, possibly both.

I wouldn't want to do their job...

Laat time I had anything to do with them was when my car got stolen and used in a ram raid (it failed to get through the security door - duh! - it was a dinky old Mazda 323F!

They turned up at 0430 and in hindsight I could see that they were looking at me to see if I could be faking the bleary confused state I was in, and decided I couldn't have been involved. If only they'd known I'm usually in that state, I could have been in trouble!

I reckon that in a forum this size, if you only end up occasionally banning or losing a member you're doing it just about right. I find people on here very helpful and friendly on the whole.

Except the bl**dy power flyers, of course!

You know we need a "Best of RCMF" thread where people can post links to the best threads on the forum because the thread you've mentioned above has completely passed me by and there must be other great threads that I never get around to reading.

Back on topic, sadly there will always be a small percentage of r-soles and if we now have 1 less in our midst so much the better.  IMHO the wrong reaction would be to wring our hands and decry the majority of posters as being difficult.  It's just a few creating ripples, when it happens deal with them and everyone will be happier.

I asked Minor Problem to remove my mod status last night purely for the reasons Wiz stated in his opening post as I was fed up of the snide comments/ name calling and bickering going on in this forum .
This place is nothing like the happy forum it used to be when I first joined which is quite sad really .
I knew nothing about any banning or other member(s) leaving or asking for accounts to be deleted but can understand the feelings of those who left .

I think there are a few crossed wires here!  ::)

The thread that Peevie/ John B/ myself have refered to, is regarding a proposed Harrier jump jet model. And one that is still on here, and no-one as yet has been banned/deleted as a result of it. ..and it's very good and informative, highly recommended, even to those of us who fly gliders.

The thread that resulted in the unfortunate episodes is still on here, in the pub, and on topic surprisingly!

The thread that Cactus is referring to, I don't think has anything to do with RCMF, and has nothing to do with what the other two threads are about..Cactus I think is confused..  :''

Is that all clear now?  :)
