Totally agree - a later post by Yoyo decries the use of &&^&%%$% on the grounds that the reader's own interpretation could offend that same reader. EH?

Well I am tyhe most offensive person I know, so it seems pretty likely to me!

I like the swear-filter method of replacing real swear words with ridiculous ones myself.

I don't, I find it irritatingly annoying and totally unacceptable, it's worse that the actual swear words that we would all use from time to time.  >:(

The thing is; in the thread you're talking about Phil, and we're now in the realms of 'Nuclear or not toclear (geddit?)' I can see both sides of the argument, and I can also see the flaws and benefits of alternatives to nuclear power. It isn't that clear cut and not polarised as conclusively, therefore I'm not contributing to it, cos I'll upset both sides!  ;D ;D

as much as i see where the no's are coming from, what it takes to get to a worrying stage is so much that it barely takes worrying about, over the effects of not bothering ( given what we are capable of doing right now )
i found it hilarious the Swiss were now rethinking it after this tsunami, i mean, if the Swiss get hit by one i think we'll have a bit more to worry about than a cloud that glows green at night  ;D

Cactus - when people  write a post in order to explain and present an argument, if they are equipped with a decent vocabulary then they might well chose to use it. That tends to present the ideas being discussed in the most precise way possible. It's not a question of trying bigger and bigger words, it's about using the right words to get the idea across, most effectively..

That's your own particular understanding of what I posted. If you see everything in terms of agreement or disagreement, rather than in discussion, then you might get a slightly different interpretation of what was actually posted.

in the condescending tone you used to simply say what i had in other words yes

and if that isn't how your post was meant to come across then maybe your also one of the regulars that needs to look at how you post and how others interpret you
because condescending and alarmist are the two words i would pick and that instantly gets backs up no matter what it is your trying to say.

I've said a few times in this thread, and I'll say it again, when posts get personal and start trading personal comments then it is a very clear precursor of trouble. With that in mind I find it very sad that this thread is being used by two posters to carry over personal discussions from another thread :banghead:

Guys, make your point/s and leave the personal comments untyped - please  :af

i'm just discussing what was said earlier about how posts are read by others and that leads to those threads getting out of order, the fact my example is replying is unrelated  :study:

That was exactly what I was doing, and have done throughout that thread, which has now been brought up in this thread. Then I come to this thread and read the nonsense being posted up here about that thread, about my participation in it and a statement that another poster is staying out of that thread, but wanting to throw a few jabs in here. Hopefully you'll forgive me for at least answering the most misled of those comments?

I hope not. No disrespect to anyone, but this thread keeps going in swings and roundabouts, squibbling, pats on backs, more squibbling.. humour... and i think more squibbling might come about again. Its served its purpose, and served it well..  and to be honest, the other thread in question has gone downhill in my estimation and seems like a fisticuff fight with words. It started off ok, and one i read. now its just awfull to read with what is going on over there. We all know what is going on in Japan, its horrific what is going on. we dont need a war of words about it as the images ont he tv speak for themselves.

sorry, just my tuppence worth. will say no more about it.
