I saw that but it doesn't mean it's open 24 hours.  :-\

Maybe it's the back of the shop, therefore not the 'storefront'?

I dunno...

You win NSS... that was a pretty short competition....

But Owen, I hadn't considered the open 24 hrs scenario but as it is daylight  and unless the shop is in one of the polar regions, it should be open in the daytime if it's "open 7 days a week"

How do you know it's daylight? it could be an electric light.  ;)

It could still be a lightbulb, or half-day closing.  ;)

I didn't have the advantage of any accompanying text. Just the picture.

Erm...why?

At this time of year it's autumn in HK and so there's about 12 hours of daylight - are you suggesting that they must inherently work 12 hour days?

No Pete. I was inferring that  the shop could be in Iceland  hence the reason for the daylight and the Hobby King empire was growing exponentially  ;D ;D a further step in its plan for world domination.

Still I remember when I used to go to  our Hong Kong   office on business that a 12 hour working day would have been considered part time by the local employees.  Made me feel like a positive slacker only doing 10 hr days...5 days a week. :''

But the initial post was only a bit of light hearted fun with no hidden meanings or agenda  :D

That's because it's coming via swisspost - the picture will appear in about 3 weekss after multi-day rest-stops in Singapore, Zurich and Heathrow.

I bought a glider and 3 lipos on the 15th and it all arrived on the 25th which I thought wasn't too bad.  They were small lipos, though, 500mAh or so.  Not sure if that made a difference to how they were handled.

I'm not having a dig at HK - just a bit of banter. I'm more than happy with the idea that stuff coming from the other side of the world through several customs zones may have a variable delivery time and that's part of the proce/delivery-time trade off that you make.

In fact I'm not at all sure what the point of this thread was at all, except to see that Shaun assumed "open 7 days" was the same as "open 24/7"!

There was no point to the thread  , just a bit of fun...
In the abscence of any accompanying text to the picture I received and the apparent daylight coming thru the door.. open 7 days a week  to me infers open in day light,  ,not 24/7  which would be open 7 days and   7 nights a week, hence the comment re the closed sign . Now as I've had to explain it as I saw it , I must have a different sense of humour ( sometimes warped) to some of my fellow formites. ;D ;D ;D

In a similar vein - last week I happened to be driving through the back end of Aldershot past the place where I worked in the early 80s. There used to be a Watneys pub on the corner, but I saw it is now the "Colonic Irrigation Centre". My immediate thought was "Ah - same raw material source, just a different branding..."

Yes, that's my sort of humor..

As I started this thread, lets  forget about Hobby King and now migrate it to a double entendre, warped  sense of humor, things that make you go ooh ( as in the words of that not so great 80's 90's song.. so great I can barely remember it and I've probably got the words wrong as well) loosely aeromodelling based thread.. ;D

Just found another.. you would think that on an aeromodelling forum that the spell checker would recognise the word aeromodelling unless I can't spell ! :D

The other day my gorgeous 19-year-old blonde secretary asked me for an example of a double-entendre, so I gave her one.

---

As is customary, Samantha went down to the gramaphone library earlier, where she says there's been some sort of misunderstanding. Of late, the usually friendly archivists haven't been very welcoming, claiming Samantha has been rubbing them up the wrong way. She says she had to give them a good mouthful, and that soon put them straight.

I hope Hobby King do open a shop near my home town so I can take back that crepe engine the sold me and I can lay a few fooks into someone rather than just sending emails that get ignored.

The text of the email (for those who don't subscribe):

In an ever increasing effort to drive more value into the R/C market HobbyKing has begun piloting retail store franchises in select regions around the globe, underscoring HobbyKing's commitment to the R/C industry.
Each store will retail both HobbyKing and other branded products and will also serve as a service center for warranty and technical support.
Products sold online can be serviced in-store as well as sent back to your local service center.
At a later stage 'HobbyKing Store Front's will be filling local internet orders and pre-ordering requested items from any one of HobbyKing's warehouses locally and abroad.
We hope that the HobbyKing Store Front network combined with increased service levels and a 24hr support desk (ETA May-15) will improve quality of service and ultimately customer satisfaction.

We will let you know via email the moment a store opens in your region, in the meantime if you have a local store that you wou! ld like to see carry our products please tell them to email us at cs@hobbyking.com

What will be interesting is the nature and cost of the franchise, the rough trade prices that stock could be purchased for and minimum stock holding.  Clearly for a UK outlet one would need to cost-in margin/duty/taxes and VAT would need to be applied to the purchase price.  This would, I'm sure take the retail price to about the right level in the UK, perhaps even a bit higher.  Therefore you would be trading on Hobby Kings (albeit vast) range/availability and not necessarily price competition.

Then you can imagine the conversation with your customer ...

customer:  "Hello please could I have one of those really rare motors?"
shop keeper: "Yes certainly but I will need to order it in and by the way, the price will be roughly 30% higher than the web-price".
customer: "Oh I might as well order it direct myself.  Thanks for your help"

Bit tongue in cheek but it will be interesting to see how it would work.

They've had a similar thing for internet shops for a few years.
You order through your 'local' mail order shop, (which only needs to stock the low cost-regular items), and then the rest, usually a lot of the more expensive stock, can then be 'drop-shipped' direct from HK, but everything on the paperwork shows it's come from your local shop ;)
