60+ hour weeks at work and family commitments have prevented me from finishing it.  :'(

I'm just about to sneak in the garage and get to work on the throttle and choke servos.

Rear servos and control linkages are done and looking fairly blingy. :D

Looking like it's going to come in around 8oz under the weight limit fuelled for flight.

Well, she's all ready to go bar a test run of the engine (which worked fine before).

Trouble is that it's now 40mph winds outside with no sign of any let-up in the next week. >:(

Met Office predicts 30mph winds tomorrow and Metcheck 12mph.  :banghead:

another problem has reared it's ugly though- she weighs 15lb 2oz. Not a problem in itself, the wing loading is just right at that weight. Problem is that the weight with fuel is 16lb 2oz, which is 12oz over the club's weight limit for A certificate holders (although lighter than my Eurobat was. Shhh- don't tell anyone!) and they're getting a bit hot on it.  :'(

Now i know most of you will say "go and get your B", but I get so little time to fly that it won't be easy for me. I've got my 26cc Ultimate which flew like a pig on it's maiden despite a perfect CofG, and my Sebart Katana which doesn't like being flown in the wind.

Looks like I'll be flying on the beach until it's B time, then.  :'(

If your club goes by the CAA rules it should be 7kg/15.4lbs without fuel.

Just checked on that and now have an ear-to-ear grin!  :af

I thought it was a fully fuelled weight. I can now offset the slightly nose-heavy CofG with a bigger rx battery. :af

Oh, and did I remember to say :af ?

All :af ing aside, i need to look at making a canister for it, as one of the only things i can do to get the CofG back is to move the exhaust back. Ignition batteries are already secured as far back from the wing as I can reach!

She flies!!  :af

Got a chance to nip out to the local club as a guest this afternoon and took her up. A few clicks of elevator (she's a tad nose heavy) and two clicks of aileron and all was straight and true hands-free.

Rolls are very axial and inverted is a breeze, although requiring some down elevator due to the nose heavy state. Knife edge is difficult as she pulls towards the canopy due to the previously mentioned up elevator.

Flaps haven't been used in anger yet, but it'll fly in at jogging pace without them. I need to study the 8FG's manual to work out to mix in down elevator to offset the pitching up when the flaps are applied.

So, there's a bit of work to do, but in general the build has been a resounding success. I feel like a man who's been run over by a steam train- chuffed to bits!!  :D

I'm guessing you mean your next summer build? I know I seem to spend more time flying in the winter than the summer!  ::)

Thank you. :)

I'm using TowerPro SG5010 for everything but the rudder, which is a 15kg metal geared Turnigy.
I've had a servo failure on one of the flaps and am going to change the remaining servos over to TowerPro MG996R because of this. I had heard that the SG5010's don't like the vibration from big petrol engines and this seems to be true.

996R are fine. I hate 5010s  >:(

nah, 5010s have their place- it's just that that place isn't in 50cc petrol models, but more like 0.46-0.60 sized models.

The standard digi Spektrum servos have a place. They are great for throttle and 40 size planes. 996Rs are a bit slow and clunky, but strong enough and last well with petrol engines. MG16R mini servos are excellent even in a large (and sensitive) thermal gliders.

The 5010 is slow, doesn't centre, doesn't return to the same place and is generally nasty! I wouldn't, even in a Zagi. I've got all sorts of nasty cheap car and ancient servos in those - but never a 5010 again  :embarassed:

The cheapest Hitecs are a world away from the 5010 and not very much more £££   :)

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I'm starting to get a feeling that you're not too keen on 5010s...... :study:

Well, I think so- but I've been wrong about this kind of thing before. Being a typical bloke I find it hard to read between the lines and prefer to take things at face value.
