I have just been on the hobby king web sight they seem to recruiting staff around the world one of the jobs is for a UK ware house person in the north .Can any one shed any light on a UK hobby king ware house

This has been rumoured for some time now, but, so far they have just been rumours.

despite our taxes putting up UK based products meaning a lot of sales must come from the UK the same would just happen if they had a base here.
you could say they do, giant cod is just one of them, the only advantage HK would have is buying power meaning lower base cost.
the DE prices are already higher than the international, the only advantage being slightly quicker delivery
but would you pay a couple quid more for a £4 li-po if it took 2 days rather than 10?
if so, theres already those UK shops.

No, you didn't. However, it's most likely these posts will disappear as did my original post question the decision, so it's fairly irrelevant.

But if HK comes to the UK then surely it's creating UK jobs and so is then a legitimate UK business?

So I can't advise them as to why Blackpool would be the ideal location in the North to house the warehouse and employ me as the manager...

No no, I can do the job here in Bristol - An excellent transport hub on the M4/M5 intersection with an International Airport and high speed rail links to London, Wales, the West Country and even the frozen north ....
I am available for an immediate start .....  With the right incentives I will also do promotional work at shows etc through out the year ...

It will be interesting to see what the price difference is on their products when duty and VAT are paid. Customer service will be key, us lot have been spoiled with some excellent UK suppliers and their customer service and its become expected for all.

Prices will be much the same as the German warehouse. Duty and VAT are paid there too.

Not me, the model trade in general. The first one that springs to mind as it's award winning is Giantcod but there are now many others that supply very cheap goods, next day delivery and excellent customer service and others are measured to these standards. To survive in the UK customer service will be key, you only have to look at threads on here. I hope they get it right but it will mean running the business differently to the other warehouses where they don't expect goods to be returned.

Don't get me wrong, it's good to see international companies investing in the UK especially in this climate. Just from a business point of view I find it interesting.

I happen to know that HK are taking steps to ensure that there are experienced staff there for support, known as Product Specialists.They are experienced aero modellers employed to help ensure the right product is offered to the customer. They know that not having knowledgable staff at the other end of an enquiry is hurting their image.

I think that anyone who overlooks the significance of HK is very blinkered. They must be the biggest retailer of rc products in the world.

The release of the first turbine in the range is going to be very interesting as long as Anthony has listened and has ensured that they have a European service centre.

Agree that anyone in the business cannot ignor them. Whilst I wouldn't be surprised if they are the biggest retailer by volume I suspect someone like Futaba who I believe also own OS might be bigger by turnover

Certainly Futaba and OS are big (though both in decline?).  However neither is a retailer.

Yeah, basically, the UK set up is going to be really interesting, not like anywhere else in the worldwide operation. I won't have anything to do with it as my job is increasingly to do with fixed wing product development here in Hong Kong but what I know of it sounds good, Anthony is very excited about it, as am I.

Can you comment on whether the 30cc Tucano is being stocked there, Scott? It absolutely HAS to be- it's beautiful!

I just hope they sort out their aftersales service. I've been led a right merry dance (and i've got 2 left feet ) over a model i bought that had a damaged canopy. They must of emailed the same request 15 times for info that i had given them the first time they asked.
Everytime i emailed to see what the progress was, i got the same generic reply which was very frustrating. After a good 4 years of using them, it's the first time i have ever had a problem with something and trying to sort it out was a PITA.

I'd hate to have this level of service where a turbine was involved. I think i'll still to the big boys where jets are concerned.

Did it get sorted eventually? Did you have to send the whole plane back
or just the canopy.

I've lost count of how many orders I've placed. I does show you on the site, but it got reset a while a go for some reason and now shows 33 orders.

This issue hasn't been resolved yet, but it is moving in the right direction now (well it seems to be anyway) They asked at first if i could not just repair it myself, Which of course i could do, but that's hardly the point and the repair would be obvious as the canopy frame is very thin.

It's only the 3rd model i think I've had off them, everything else was lipo's, servo's, general accessories etc. I bought some of their covering once and it was rubbish, so now stick to Profilm (Oracover)

I think this is a good thing in general, They stock many good products at good prices.  However I hope they dont find some tax loophole and that they have to trade on the same playing field as UK suppliers, it would be unfair if they did get around this.

If they do manage to undercut the uk shops then were all in trouble, if 5 years it could mean that the only things we can buy are cheap Carp foamies.

I have used HK for years now and my only issue has been the time and cost of shipping. Whilst HK don't supply my main style of model I have built and flown some of there models and have been very pleased with them. For sport club models the price to fun ratio is excellent

It would be unfair to call some of them original designs as well. E.g. the easy bixler or whatever it is called.

HK caters to the small/park section of the market more than larger (side might say proper) models IMHO. I suspect that must be where the market it's going.
