Its when the donkey's start wheezing at Launceston that the trouble starts. I think they're ok up till then but the hills get to them and their legs go all wobbly.
 Was talking to the guy at Totem hobbies Plymouth he's sent me two items so far via post, both took >= 4 days to get to me. He sent another parcel out at the same time as one of mine and it got to Glasgow 2 days before I got mine in St Austell.

Good transport network in the South West? I'd hate to see a bad one  :banghead:

Well if Giant Cod send their good out from Hong Kong then I suggest Hobby King follow their lead as my good arrived last week about 20 hours from order and for £6 postage.

Hobby King charge £30 postage and it takes weeks... I dont think using Giant Cod as an example is doing you any favours at all!!!!

Good god; why on earth is this thread filled with such a steamng heap of anger and mistrust? I would have thought a retailer opening up in the UK with (presumably) competitive prices would be something everyone would applaud, rather than spending their time starting pointless, ill-informed and speculative argumetns  $%&

Maybe its just because HK is a 'foreign' company and we don't fancy them competing with our nice cosy home-made retailers? I certainly can't think of another reason.

Sad really  :embarassed:

People have different needs and different approaches. Someone who may, in your view, not be able to "see past their wallet" may be struggling to afford some modelling entertainment. While its nice to have the luxury of not worrying about cost, that luxury is not available to everyone.

YMMV  :-X

The majority of our shiny toys are made in China.  That applies if we buy them direct from the far East, via a UK based warehouse like GC or at our LMS.  So I can't really see how anyone can complain about having another way to buy the stuff.

However here's my hobby horse.  Ripped Intellectual Property.  Typically it comes in 3 forms.  Counterfeit goods, grey goods produced in the same factory as the "real" parts, using the real tooling but sold outside of the correct distribution channels and pure copying of copyright material.

Buying any of these minimises the returns to the rightful inventors / producers.  And that'll limit the number of new toys that get released.

other than paying for the R&D that went into the original, copies really shouldn't be that much cheaper, the HK Fun jet clone is 24 quid, the Funjet 75

the reason i pick this is i fancy modding one some time, i don't mind hacking up a 24 quid airframe!

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Actually, the Radjet only looks vaguely like a Funjet, seriously, there is almost nothing similar about them in reality, they both have wings with little bit's on the end and are both EPO foam....that's about it!

Hmmmm, I hear this all the time and to be honest, the opposite is true, clones are the way of things in China, we get accused of it by certain people who never point out how many new products of our own design we release each and every year, we have a team of engineers, designers and testers and do an awful lot of R&D....but we know each and every time it will get copied sooner or later....one factory recently offered us a clone of one of our own models!

The amount of industrial espionage that goes on in this little industry is quite amazing and the "clone" frequently comes from the original designer who offers his product to another factory for money or employment, or goes off and set's up his own factory, I can tell you that the situation with regard cloning is not as dry cut as it appears.

So you developed all of your apc, mejzlik and GWS clone propellers?

I can vouch for that. I have a Radjet and an FJU. The fus on the Radjet is half the size of the FJU. I've had remove a lot of us to fit a 2200 3s in and a 60A ESC- they're both now structural members!

It has the potential to be much faster due to the slimmer fus, but needs glassing for high performance use as it's not got a wing stiffener.

If HKs UK prices are similar to the German ones I will be happy to use them - no more 3 week waits for Lipos :af

<snip>

Sorry to rant, but this is a pet hate of mine. Yes, there is some cr*p coming out of China, but it manufacturers 70% of the world's products- it would be amazing if there wasn't any!

Remember just a few years ago when lipos cost a fortune and were successfully marketed to the point that people were buying batteries for hundreds of pounds? One of the biggest names in lipos now is Turnigy- a Hobbyking brand. There are only three lipo factories in the world, if memory serves me correctly, and they're all in China. Many independent tests have been done and the performance has been proven- no need for me to bleat about it here.
<snip>

Sorry, but that is simply false. It's a myth that is spread on a regular basis. There are certainly more than three factories manufacturing lipo batteries, and, contrary to that myth, they are not all located in China. There are, at the very least, lipo manufacturing plants in Japan, Taiwan and IIRC Malaysia, to name but three other countries.

Its quite surprising where lipo's are made this link (whilst not a good read) is quite interesting. Most manufaturers and traders are based in China - but not all...

http://uk.alibaba.com/products/rc-lipo-battery/3.html

Good search facility too...

Yes, but Alibaba are a Chinese export organisation, so they are primarily promoting Chinese trade - I don't believe that they will cover all manufacturers or suppliers?

Don't forget it was Chinese New Year just a few days ago.  Things tend to go a bit slow around then - like at Xmas/New Year here.

Remember, up is up, and down is down.  Except when inverted - when down is up, and up can be very expensive

That is probably due to the Chinese New Year holiday backlog.
