One more to add to the list having just won an auction on ebay. Yep, another PSS model . . .  :uk:
I had one of these, flew like a barge..... slow. Only way I could get it going was in a big wind with lots of lead in its belly.
Never looked the part...shame.  :'(

Some winter builds/repairs.
First off a Hawk I made from a plan for a club mate. He gave it back to me said it was to difficult to fly and he didn't want to damage it.
Needs a small repair to the nose where he Lawn Darted it, this also bug*ered up the all moving tail....weeks work in the evenings

Next is my Modified Halfpipe 60, smoke/fire damage....needs a recover and a few mods.
Not sure If I can be bothered as 60" racers have moved on, might give it to a newby in the club an let him sort it

Then there is the Stonker, smoke /fire damaged. Not a great amount of work to do to this.
clean up, rub down an respray wings (these are vac bagged ply/glass carbon over foam). Make a new fin and attach to fuz. Existing fin had clamshell airbrakes, not sure if ill bother with that.
Photos of the model an damage to the wing

That should fit in with Eyeboys hangar nicely then ;)

(and Eyeboy...)

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!
So that's where I've been going wrong...

Then theres the Dogfish... This went in from a great height with a brown-out and hit the rocks at Nonts.
Damage to the wings is cosmetic ( vac bagged ply glass over foam an still solit as a rock)
Body well...Its but a scratch..... should I repair the body or make a new one.
See photos....

The previous photo did not show the real damage, I had just pushed the bits together...I think its a rebuild.

When does the Moulded Pushy Cat get a refurb Brian, always liked the look of that one  ;)

Being a PSS model I kind of anticipated it being slow (as are all my PSS models). Personally I'd much prefer a slower 'scale' model to a "winged knitting needle" as they do nothing at all for me, fast though they may be. Horses for courses I guess.

Red plane. White plane. Green plane. Blue plane. Yellow plane. Orange plane. I have lots of planes. I know that means you you admire me as I have more planes of greater value than you! I'm great.

I agree with you about the knitting needle thing, an I love PSS, but because it was a jet, I hoped it would go a tad like a jet  $%&

I did quiet a bit on the Hawk this afternoon, cut out the old elev mechanism, made a new bellcrank, cut the elevs to fit an glued in the tubes...waiting for the epoxy to dry at the moment.
not taking as long as I thought.  :af

I'm now genuinely wondering whether to make provision for one or maybe two toy rocket motors in place of the exhausts. It would help with the unrestricted climbs!!

http://www.modelrockets.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=28_38&products_id=189
It even says "this motor is highly suitable for rocket powered gliders" but I don't think they mean this type of glider!! Would be cool if a little short lived.

Or you could wait until Nov 5th comes around again  :'' I saw it done to a glider some 25 years ago...burn didn't last long enough

You'd also have to watch out for the final charge that goes off after the burn finishes and blows the top off the motor - used to trigger the chute on model rockets.

There are similar rocket gliders already, so it isn't that far fetched:

Not much activity on here, is it because not many are going to do winter builds?

Haven't started any yet, it's still sunny out there ;)

I have just put the final spray coat on my re-re-re-patched up Acacia though, just waiting for a good wind now.

Typically, both of the next weekends are already booked up :(

The winter will probably encourage me to attack my workdump backlog.  An embarrassing pile of projects has grown steadily over the last few months while the weather has been so regularly flyable.

There's an SAS Apache (an old design but an untouched kit), an EPP Jart, a zEPPer and a Topmodel Kulbutin.

Additionally, I have a previously well used moulded Jart to fettle.  The structural stuff has now been made safe but next comes the removal of layer upon layer of paint.  Not so much rubbing down but archæology.  It'll shed some weight but she'll end up like some medieval bludgeoning weapon.

There are some other boxes too, under the bed in the spare room - I'll check those out later, when I've made some progress. ......  ::)

I never seem able to 'accumulate' kits like most of you guys. More the pity. Once my asw is done (just needs paint and U/C doors and ill be workshop free.
Perhaps i need to go to the barcs and load up with boxes in Dec.

I have a P51 Mustang 32" wingspan to make ,
I have an Apache (SAS) i would really like to Respray the Fuse and re-cover the Wings .
and a Thorn that really needs a coat of looking at  :af

Hope i dont break to much in the meantime , cos i cant see the Thorn being ready to fly this winter , But by next winter it will be airworthy , in a solid bit of wood way  ::)

The Apache is still a great model ,
That's why i want it looking Good again , its taken an almighty wallop . I launched it off the cliff and didn't turn it on  :banghead:, whoosh straight back over my head and whacked the floor hard , damage was where the wing hit the barb wire Fence ,
               Fuse not a scratch ,
strongest glass fuse in the world (IMO).
Its nice to have a low wing Glider ,
Makes a change with so many mid wing or top wing planes .

Needs a rudder, which I will one day get around to fitting. The Duralene fus is excellent pity no one makes them anymore.

I fitted mine with a Rudder ,
It helps in stall turns and a few other moves ,
But Ive seen them go just as well and better without .  ^-^

It may not be worth it , to be honest . but looks like a proper plane with the One ,
I did mine like a Fox tail , (The rudder that is)

I've seen pics of the SAS Apache sporting both a standard "T" tail and also a "V" tail.

Anyone know what the original configuration was, and the advantages of either over the other ?  ::)

Hi Magi,
The Apache was a Bob Martin Coyote, seen in this pic' in its original format.
http://www.oldschoolmxresto.com/images/Coyote1.jpg
My SAS Apache was a flat tail with no rudder, having a v-tail may have made this easier to have. Other than that, it may just have been looks. There is one on Ebay at the moment with both tails up for grabs.

Used to fly mine at Mill Hill with Alan Head himself of SAS fame. Crikey just realised how long ago that was. ;D
