I don't know if anyone has noticed but my build threads are less of "look what I'm building and this is how it's done" and more of a "well this is how I intend to do it is that right ....... HELP!"

Just looked at this wing again and when bolted down to the fuselage the back end feathers are all a skew  :banghead:

Not knowing what's right and what's wrong incidence wise I'm stopping here it's not worth doing anymore to it.  Lot's of effort on something that will look pant's when done and may never fly right so I'm cutting my losses.  Bit of a booga as I bought the retracts specifically for it and also a £20 cowl but I have at least leaned a lesson ......... stop messing about with other peoples poop builds or repairing crepe.

For sale 1 X cowl and a tatty wing free to a good home, I will keep the retracts for something else.

Oh no  :'(

I will keep the retracts for something else.

A new Galaxy Mustang kit is quite reasonable I believe - should fit nicely!

I could relieve you of the wing Shaun when we next meet up - it might be a useful spare :af

Maybe you should invest in some, it would answer alot of your questions. You can make a incidence meter easy enough. Job sorted  :af

I have lost interest in the Galaxy P51 in general now  :-\  I don't want to be starting something new that needs a lot of modifying something I just want a nice simple straight forward build.

I just sent you an email asking if you wanted it  ;D

I don't think the Galaxy P51 has plans as such Mat I believe it sort of goes together type thing not really a building type plan  $%&

Servos are out of the wing now and it's hung up ready to take the wing to Alan probs at Tib?  Fuselage will keep me warm outside tonight in flames  :ev

Your wrong Shaun.

There are build instructions and a plan. Not a bad one if I remember correctly.

Give Galaxy a ring. I'm sure they will sell you one, then its problem solved.

Thanks Charlie I thought it kinda jig built itself but even so I really feel it's not worth investing anymore time on something that will always be 2nd rate at best.  Something has to come off either the tailplane and be reseated but like I said I don't know if it's standard or what but it's in 2 pieces with a spar running through at the rear.  Everything appears to be attached with epoxy so removing anything means destroying something or at least it's mating face.  I would rather invest the next 300 hours in something that will look something when done.

I know the feeling  :-\ But, far be it for me to encourage someone to abandon something.
On a lighter note, I saw your post in the Charging 3S LiPo thread and sent you a PM regarding how to use the GT Power charger you've got  :)

I think your wrong.

It will look fine and P51 shaped when its sorted.

If I remember correctly the tailplane incidence is self selecting as the fuslage rear end is cut to shape. The builder just adds doublers on the inside and sits the tailplane on top.

Sorted.

Same goes for the wing. Sit it in the groove in the fuselage sides with the leading edge butted up to the frame and its sorted.

What have you got to loose  $%& $%& $%&

(Or maybe you would like a Bearcat. Z38 just slots in, just needs a re-paint)

It's not often I give up on something but today was the 1st time I saw the fuselage uncovered I should have done that to start with  :embarassed:  I did get your PM thank you VERY much Jamie, I'm a visual type and a vid makes perfect sence I understand now  :D

I guess about 300 hours an engine and all the gear.  The tail does not sit directly on (on my one) what I would call a precut piece it appears to be shimmed up and has a slop of filler on it to.  The tailplane in 2 pieces with a rear spar and bits of 6mm dowl kinda sat in doing nothing  $%& no idea what's going on there.

My pleasure. Just realised that when I showed you how to change the current for the charging rate I said "voltage", then skipped over the flashing voltage icon (said 11.1v, as per 3-in-Series LiPo) and didn't mention it again. As you press the "START" button and jump over current and voltage, you can use the + and - buttons to set both before you press and hold START to begin the check and charge. The charger will remember the settings you last used for each of the battery types and different functions within them, and because all the LiPos I currently use are 3S mine is always set to 11.1v (3S) and hence I forgot to mention it to you! The charger will check what you've plugged in you and makes you confirm what it thinks you've plugged in before it carries on, so there's little risk of starting a fire that way  :af

I've had my GT Power A8 for a few years now and really like it. I even use it to charge my cordless drill after the charger for that was destroyed ages ago  :)

My son (Craig) has run off to Australia with his new wife and left me his fleet to dispose of. Up in the workshop roof lurks an un-finished one of these. The wings are suffering (veneer lifting along the joins) but the Fuselage looks OK and it appears to have a fibreglass or plastic cowl. Once I've dug it out I'll take some pics. If anyone is interested pm me otherwise it will have to go to the back of the queue.

It's a hard life - but better than the alternative.

Having nothing to loose I thought I would use the wing I have and practice brown paper and PVA again with better results this time but it's still wet time will tell.  I'm not getting back on the project only using it as a practice piece.

I cant believe I got it so wrong the 1st time I tried it this time it's going on great  :D  Cut paper and pop it in the sink with warm water for a few seconds, paint wing with 50/50 PVA/Water lay paper on and pull out creases roughly brush down with the same PVA mix lightly and wait for it to dry  $%&

Left hand side just done drying RHS was done about 3/4 hour ago and is already drying out well.  It's already like a drum where I covered over the wheel wells  :D

Hello Shaun,
I have a question regarding the area of the wing that is above the belly pan.  I mean the area that will not be seen as it is where the fuselage is mated to it.  Now, on my build of an 82'' P-47 this area has been cut away as I wanted to redesign the belly doors to the landing gear.   Most of the LE is intact.  The TE is where the flaps are and that is intact.  The main spar is intact.  What I mean by intact is the skin is still the original planking.  I have two large openings between the LE and the main spar (about center of wing) , say full width exposing the center No. 1 rib that is a double 1/8 plywood to the No. 2 rib where the fuselage sits.  Then a similar opening between the main spar and the TE.
Would you explain to me the significance of having to re-plank this area.   I am tempted to leave it be and not replank.
I am not understanding something about the nature of the stresses in this area.  I want you to understand I am not lazy, I just want to understand the significance of this area in R/C airplane modeling.
Regards,
Albert.

Sorry Albert I cant advise I'm no expert I just have a go same as you do  $%&

ref the P51, I have not touched it since brown papering the wings which need a 2nd coat of pva before primer etc.  There is no hurry it's now only a practice piece but a rather handy one.
