Some of you guys had nice weather this last weekend, we had high winds an a lot of rain.
So what to do...make another toy.
I have not made a forward swept wing plank since 2008, that was the Stonker photo attached for those that never saw it. That was made out of Carbon/kevlar/ply Vac bagged, this is out of Epp foam, same size 60"
My last Epp 60" racer ( named "KLINGON" by the Timinator) has proved to be fast an fun to fly, so I am making this one along the same lines, but with more sections to make up the Wing/Fuz and also forward swept.
A photo of the wing bits stuck together and the golf shaft spars installed

Just been back out to the workshop and spackled the bottom of the wing, it will be dry by the morn, redy for sanding, then the top...
The epp foam is from Germany, its lighter than the stuff we used to get from Linpac, but its denser and easier to work with. The panels have been cut by hand with a bow using ali templates. The Timinator cant cut the sharp angles on his CNC cutter

Can't cut anything just now - spiders cold and damp seem to have got into the electronics...

Mind you I still have three EPP projects on the go and am struggling for inspiration  >:(

Tim

Hi Chris ta....As for Cog, I use a CoG calc, and a bit of guess work, then lots of short flights to nail the sweet spot  :af

Back to the build, its been spackled an sanded, cut some pine trailing edge drag spars, glued them on with Goop and sanded to wing profile.
Cut out ailerons from a piece of 4" balsa, and finished these.
Going back out to the shop mark up for the radio gear and nose weight and router it out.
Will take some photos then

Déjà vu

doesn't this one turn out white with some red trim?

Can you show a picture of the 2 together to play spot the difference.

As always great work brian. I hope I build that much when I am retired. (Where is the begging icon)

It looks beautiful. You must choose a classy colour scheme to do it justice.

No Ronnie No
As for colour, the reason I went for white- orange/red was that it stands out against others when there are lots of toys in the air all after the same bit of slope. I still do the undersides in yellow blue, just to keep Ronnie happy

Found  photo of one of my early forward swept toys...The elevons had been cut off it and the radio taken out, but it was fun if not different.
The photo was taken before the fire...it no longer exists  :'(

Thought I'd mention it the servos that I'm using are cheap HK Carp, but buried. When you race on Tinkers we can get more/bigger knocks than combating. I have lots of confidence in cheap Carp...See another thread  :''  :ev

Always liked the old "klingon" ship, really think when you get a spare moment you should have  another go at building the origional (or 2) for  a friend perhaps  :''

Seem to remember you saying you never got it to fly very well ???

Chris it eventually flew ok, CoG was way to far back, and the foil was not the best, I thined it out to much, these new foils would make it a lot better. I might make another way out one or even 2

Ok model covered in race legal 175 micron Lam film. It took 5 panels to do the top an 3 to do the underside. The elevons an fin have been covered in lightweight lam film and then final colour film. Its getting there but I've had enough for today. Cover the rest tomorrow eve.
