There are people who seem to think it takes 30 yrs to buy a particular sort of plane. Whether I've been flying 1 yr 5 yr or 30 yrs that's up to me isn't it. If I bust it so be it. It's happened before it'll happen again.

Is that the criteria? Buy enough models and by the law of averages one has to fly and land without damage? I'd not thought of it like that; prefering to try to fly and land well what I owned already before moving up..hey ho..  :''

Repairs are part of the fun. If you don't like repairs find another hobby
As however good you are as a pilot, you'll be doing repairs or paying someone to do them for you.

REALLY? Oh, blimey, I'd not thought about repairing models. Thanks. I'll do that now, instead of just throwing up again with wings cracked and tails flapping in the breeze... Phew!  :af

I thought building was fun....and repairs are sad....It means the toy will never be quiet the same.... repairs can be avoided by not crashing
Just my thoughts

Well, yesterday's couple of flights with my Blast at Shipley gave me a reality check; I'm postponing buying the Fusion funfly until I'm better with the Blast. I had great fun but the odd 30 mph gust caused a few brown trouser moments and it was a bit difficult to make any headway against the wind.
Thanks to Chris for showing me the X-IT; it's helped me to make my mind up in favour of the Wildthing, I like the idea of having a fuse to launch it with; shall get it ordered after Christmas when the dust has settled!
Thanks again folks for your advice; hopefully I shall meet some of you on the slopes in the future.

why do you want to buy a funfly for slope soaring? Or am I missing something?

Sorry for the confusion, I was going to have the funfly as another 3D plane to go with the Blast not to use for Slope soaring.

What car have you got? It's surprising what will go sometimes...

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!
So that's where I've been going wrong...

I've got a Corsa, the problem is with a wing of that length will only fit diagonally and I'm not up for taking the risk of buying it and then finding it wont fit, I only just got the Discovery in @ 55'' span.

Well I spoke to Alan tonight and what a nice bloke, full of enthusiasm for his products and very helpful - I shall be ordering a 46'' Wildthing after Christmas - have already downloaded the build manual and am in the process of researching where to get servos, reveiver and battery pack from; any suggestions on what to get and where from greatfully received!
Oh I have a Spektrum dx6i.

Dx6i no problem ... Using one for my Reaper and other foamies.

The problem comes when more complex mixes are required.

SAS kits as I mentioned earlier use black EPP - its so much nicer to work with than white. Nice choice, should be getting a Fusion 60 after Christmas - in fact Santa might even have one loaded on the sledge  :)

Find the elevon mixer on your Tx. Cos that's what you'll need (might be called Delta)-I'm not familiar with Spektrum, but someone will tell you. You'll need a four cell AA square battery pack. Two standard size servos, they don't need to be huge torque, futaba 3001 will do fine. Rx will of course be a Spekky one. Depending on the battery/rx weight, you might get away with not having to put additional ballast in the nose to get the CG (120mm back from the LE, next to the fuselage). Oh...and it's the law, that you take photos and post a build log...  :af

servos: hitec 325hb, futaba 148 etc. Don't go mad.

Battery should be a AA square pack. go for the instant/eneloop type.

RX - anything fully range really - no probs with 2.4ghz obviously, and room is not in short supply.

switch - normal rc switch if you like.

I don't know about anyone else; but Darwii's exploits into EPP has made me think about getting a Fusion or perhaps the Venom; Alan might be on the phone a bit in the not too distant future!  ;D

No you're quite right it is elevon mix... Its in the wing tail mix menu

When you set it up you may find that you have to reverse the servo wires to get what you want, I think I have the right servo in ail and the left in ele. And will also probably have to reverse the elevator throw - I know I had to,I could get left/right but reversed elevator or elevator but reversed left/right. Its at that point you swap your servo's over ;)

I also put some expo (about 20%)  in to make things a little less of a challenge. You can always take it out again when your confidence builds.

Do you mean swap the plugs around in RX?

Yes - sorry Roger quite correct, just swap the wires over between the receiver ports labelled aile/elev. The concept of assignable channels doesn't exist in a dx6i.

I don't know if it's fixed in the DSMx version, nor do I know if thats what you have, but...

...there was an issue with the actual travels being uneven when you use the built in elevon mixing.

The fix is here.

There is nothing really to add to this advice, other than it might be worth running an extra strip of CW tape (about 8" strip) along either side of the fuselage to reinforce the nose where the little hatch is. Don`t get me wrong, it is by no means a weak spot, but if you really really really stove it in hard from about a 100ft with the wind behind you, it might break. :)

Rock and roll my friend! Welcome to the world of freezing your nuts off and loving it! Flasks of 'fortified' beverages and soup.. Believe me on this..As I've mentioned before we have some very experienced flyers in our club; our regular gang all have WT's; and when we want a brain out and giggle, the WT's get switched oon and we have an hour or so of combat. It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on for sixty quid..well, if Mucky Nora is left out of the mix.. :embarassed:

Sorry for abusing this thread but I didn't want to create another....

I'm flying a Wildthing and Fusion 46 (loving both... ) and I'm looking for something a little bigger plank style. I had a Moth 48 but we didn't got friends. I was simply too lazy to spec it out correctly so it flew like Carp and I have no motivation to resurrect it.

So I'm thinking about just getting a Fusion 60 because it's so easy to build and fly. Is there a noticable difference in flying the 60 compared to the 46 or would that be wasted?
