Guys,

I have to say that I am a little bemused at the lack of response to my last post. Having taken everything on here at face value steps have been taken to secure probably the finest site in the UK to hold an EF-1 meeting. Someone else has all but secured sponsorship and work is in progress to shore up the rest of the requirements to provide a great kickstart for the class.

However we need competitors, so who is up for a meeting in March?

People are probably working, looking after kids, doing the shopping etc etc etc.  I really wouldnt be too bemused by the lack of responce!  March is along time away and people probably wont care until the week/day before the meeting

I'm just finishing off one of those. I hope that you are good with ABS plastic mouldings, they are a nightmare. If you need any advice then just shout.

Thanks Stu, but I have  had a good deal of experience of RBC kits in EDF format. Some of  the mouldings on the Skyray were a bit of a challenge to say the least.

I have slued ABS previously with polyester resin aqnd glass tape strips which seems to provide a satisfactory job. P38 filler then used for the seam lines

Hope to see you on the circuit

Cheers

The proper bullet shaped spinners are now in stock at Al's Hobbies. Mine was delivered on Friday and it looks the nuts!! Looking at the polecat i'd say it would fit and look much better to.

I've not had chance to play with mine since the maiden, but if it's not windy next weekend and I don't go gliding illctake it down the local patch again

I saw it was reviewed in FLYER this month. Only had a quick glare but doesn't seem to mention to much about EF1 which is a shame. Roll on the season!

Email the Editor Ken Sheppard - I'm sure that if someone on here writes a reasonable quality piece on this new race formula he will publish it.  It's the sort of story which the mags like, especially if you commit to following up with event reviews as they occur.

Nearly a month since this thread has had a post but we are out there!!

Here is a couple of video's from Darron Rodrigues who has been  out racing the EF1 pogo and shoestring. Looks like great fun!!

Pogo is now sorted - but not race legal as I did it before I knew anything about this  ::)

1800Kv motor 8 x 6 prop 4S 3000 pack around 1kW  :ev - its quick and takes off before its got chance to go off line  ;D

Anyway Paul needs a field - how about Maidstone where they do the reno stuff  :''

What motor is this then? I have just got my shoestring model and read this thread. Can't decide on motor to use either OS1200kv or eFlight one at 1250kv or one like the one you fitted?

i believe it has to be the Eflite 25 motor for this class. Please see the rules on page one, although the USA rules, we are following the same

That or the Turnigy 1250kv one.

I fitted the 1800kv motor a few months before this thread started just for a laugh not with any intention of racing  $%&

Smashed it to bits on sunday with a c0cked up hungover take off so hardly relevant to me now anyway  ;D ::)

Did go well though - quite tempted by another  :''

What other kits are available from the local shop besides the Pogo and shoestring, and/or arf

I think that's pretty much it as far as artf's models go. Certainly 100% race legal as per the USA rules that we have adopted

I believe you can also use hangar 9 sundowner http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=34872 but its not a cheap option  :-\

If you follow the link on reply #11 there's a list of kits available in the states some of which have foam wings.

I've no time to build so will probably go with another Pogo - my only reservation being they're very lightly build which means they fly superbly but crash badly. The incident that wrote mine off would have left something like a Wot4 still flyable  ::)

Not that i'm getting involved  :''

First race is this weekend.  The F5D site is pretty dead, you need to check Pyloneracer.co.uk and the BMPRA sites for info now.

It is a bit late in the day saying the first race is 3 days away!

I sit here with a model ready to go and could have come along to swell the ranks had I known a little bit more in advance.

There is nothing like good organisation and this gentlemen is absolutely nothing like organisation.

The race dates were posted of pylons racer a while ago, I'd of thought anyone that has been around the pylon world as long as you have Stu would of known to look.

Exactly my point, if I didn't know then the publicity / promotion of this event was poor to say the least.

PB and I were going to be carying out some EF-1 testing prior to the first event but I have received an e-mail from him stating that he was also surprised, I would have thought that someone who has been the BMPRA Chairman for so many years would also have known that this event was going to be run.

Anyway, how did it all go yesterday. How many flew in each class? How many classes were run? Who was quick? What were the times?

No idea, more important things to concentrate on than to hold peoples hands that should know better. Paul knew what was going on, as did DC who is the CD and there were 2 entries from people that haven't been involved on the big course before, so they obviously checked the website without an issue

Perhaps a little harsh Duncan  :o

Stu does have a point about promotion, didnt come across any info on previous posts for entry information and the BMPRA site and the 2 week pre entry info for those that were not aware of the BMPRA site,  as the promotion of the class was started here it would have seen  beneficial to have seen all the info on here or the EF1 continued on the pylon board.

Besides that it would be of interest as Stu has asked as to how the day went in continuation of promotion, as a potential entry for later in the year I would be keen to hear how it went

cheers

Hi Guys!

Sorry for the lack of posting on here by me. The class is moving on nicely, more people have models in the uk with interest gaining all the time. This weekend was more of a trial than an actual race event for EF1, we weren't sure whether the models would be able to run on the full size course but they handled it great! The times where a little long, around the 130 secs mark, but overall a success.

We had returning old boy Les Knot have a go with his shoestring putting in consistent times, and Colin Diloway racing his pogo along side F5D, with myself and Paul Bardoe also having ago to see how they flew. Weather conditions were not the best, ultimately cutting the meeting short, but the models handled the wind, and even rain at some points great. I didn't enter my own model this event as its not ready yet, its on its way and I cant wait to put it round the poles next time!

The next race meeting is on the 20th May, with practice on the 19th, at RAF Wittering all those wanting to come down and have a race are very welcome!!

Entries should be submitted to Dave Cline, the contest director, who's email address is on the button saying 'CLICK HERE' on the bottom of the pylon entries website http://www.pylonentries.fsnet.co.uk/pylef.html.

Please spread the word about the event where ever you see fit, tell the club mates, share the petrol costs and come racing!! Hope to see you on the 20th!!

Count me out.

As I said before, one Polecat to the the highest bidder.

Stu

BTW 130 seconds is too long to run those batteries at that current, they will not last a season.

Thats a shame Stuart.

The batteries came off the flights with 18% charge left in them and they were not hot at all, alot cooler than my F5D packs come out and they are now on their 3rd season, so we can't see a problem there. Also times will come down very quickly, as weather conditions were much less than perfect.

Some fantastic pictures from the weekend have just been posted on our pylon racing flickr account. Some cool EF1 shots in there!!
