Got the Sandpaper and had a go, some 40 & 80 grit - sands a treat not much trouble getting a nice radius. It was a bit chilly in the garage though, have to organise some form of heating (would really like a pot belly stove but it would be too much bother installing it properly and we're in a smoke free zone doohhhh), suppose I'll have to borrow one of my prototypes from work and have it on life test!!
Next job will be doing the taping - how do you go round the end of the wing? I suppose you have to cut 'V's' in it don't you?

Don't think about it, get on with it!!

Just slice it and overlap - its fine.

You can once you've finished the covering gently heat the tape and it will shrink slightly. Done that on Reaper - but doesnt really need it.

It sticks to itself really well (much better if you've wiped it over to get rid of the release agent), so slitting and overlapping is stronger than Vs would be.

The other alternative is to get some Blenderm tape to reinforce the edges - it stretches so you can just pull it to go round the corner then it relaxes to stick round the sides.

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!
So that's where I've been going wrong...

Thats true Yoyo, you can get a very nice finish forming around complex bends with blenderm. Really good stuff.

His Wt is going to be better than all ours put together!  ;D

Rimmer: Step up to Red Alert!
Kryten: Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.

No worries, got a plan next time Darwil asks for information - we lie to him  :ev :ev

So long as its not structural and would cause a problem of coarse  ;)

Sorry Darwil - I wouldnt do that sounds like things are coming along nicely. When you overlap you tapes try and keep it to about 6mm. Are you going to put a glass fibre tape along the leading edge once all the coloured stuff is on?

Probably not a good idea, but I've wondered about putting a middling sized length of piano wire under the tape along the leading edge to save it from too many dings... if you need some weight ahead of the CG anyway, why not?

I've got some 2mm CF rod (left from tinkering about with mcpx tail booms) would that be any good?

Bloody hell Yoyo - thats a bit mean, not to Darwil but anyone he sythes through. Bit like being hit by a high speed cheese wire!!

I quite like using the cw tape (see Darwil I even used SAS terminology there  :)) along the leading edge so that it folds around. It not only makes the LE stronger but it also finishes of the inevitable joins you get between the upper wing covering line and the lower one.

I can't see why it's any worse than a mouldie leading edge really.

You wouldn't want to do pure-foam mucking about with a reinforced one though, no idiots holding the stick other people are trying to hit, for instance...  :'' :co

Well, I tried it with a Speedo once... didn't go well. For either of them. :'(
