Happy New Year Boys and Girls  :nananana:
i am about to re motor my old brushed Spitfire, Ripmax 48" leccy one.
I have kicking about an AXI 2820-12 which i want to fit, with perhaps a 12 x 6 folder and 3S 3000 Lipo.?
Also have a Jeti 40 amp ESC to fit.
Does this sound Ok- ish ?/ $%&

Battery and ESC are about right, but the -12 is possibly a bit soft (low Kv = low-revving) for this kind of model. On a 6" pitch it will struggle to develop enough "pitch speed". I think you'll need at least an 11-9 or maybe a 10-10 to get enough airspeed. Alternatively perhaps a 4s  battery (to get the revs up) on an 10-7 prop.

Mine has a cheap SP 2814-6 with a folding 9x6, 40A ESC from a 2300mAh 3S. It's anything from a good glider (due the low weight) through to ballistic unlimited vertical.......very "warbird" on less than half throttle......launch is throttle up and let go, duration is plenty long enough and nothing gets more than warm............. :D

Make sure you beef up the motor mount, they were not designed for that sort of power!

Mines still going strong after seven or eight years, i use it nowadays as a test bed to try out various motors, lost count now of how many motors iv'e had in it but amongst the many was the axi 2820/12 on an 11x8 prop, went like the proverbial but you can always prop it down a bit, it still has the original jeti 40 amp controller in it older type pre lipo, at the moment it has a cheapo chinese motor in it around a 1000 kv can't remember which one but it's gold and black (arn't they all) goes just as well as it did on the axi  again on a 11x8, the 2820/12 resides these days in my ripmax bf109, iv'e left it in the 109 because pulling the spinner apart is a bit of a fiddle and iv'e managed to not break a prop in about a year, ( bet i break one now next time out) ;D as has been said beef up the motor mount with some glass tape and epoxy or your liable to be searching the long grass for the motor :)

2820/10 was the standard motor we used around here for the spit so you may need to adjust the pitch/cells as PDR says to get good performance using the 12.

Doing it inverted makes your clunk go wobbly!

Thanks mate; i.m not dead set on using the -12; what sort of prop would you expect to put on the -10, for example ?? $%&

A 10-6 (graupner CAM) or 10-7(APC-e) on 3s would be normal.

I went slightly the other way with my Ripmax Spifire.

Axi 2820-10, APCe 9" x 4.5", Zippy 3s 1800mAh, 25A 260W, 11700rpm.

Flies really well, still very Spit aerobatic, even with the retracts I fitted, (was a pig to hand launch).

Fun plane.
