Well as i had it out the shed testing an engine  i thought I would take a picture of what I made for rigging and starting at the field.ila_rendered it folds down flat with the front and back 'u' holders removed, also the front bit the front model in the picture is resting on comes off. wish I had done it years ago.
Quite a few at our club have got tired of knelling down and getting sore knees and have all sort of devices from converted lite picnic tables, work mates and what I done.

I remember somebody turning up at the field with an ironing board! Worked for him, (but he refused to press my second best trousers :D).

An ironing board would be ideal; most are adjustable for height as well (so I'm told  :'').  I think I'd want to modify or replace the 'board' though and possibly extend the feet, for stability.

BTW I got one of the Adsa workbenches.  Perfectly serviceable for 9 quid, though it doesn't fold as flat as it might.  I priced up the timber to replicate NNG's effort - would have cost nearly £20  :o.  Still worthwhile IMV, but only if you have the timber knocking around.

If you buy planed timber it would be expensive but buy sawn and plane it yourself, better still recycle something  :af

I must thank Shaun for bringing this topic up.  It reminded me about the very similar stand I made years ago for my yacht.  I've just fetched it down from the storage over my workshop and it's ideal for working on the Hangar 9 60 size P47 I'm putting together.

It's just the right height to work on when I'm seated.  My other stands put the model a bit high when on the bench.  It also leaves the bench clear for cutting and sanding etc.  I'm quite proud of what a nice job I made of it all that time ago :)
