Really sad to hear that Alasdair Sutherland is retiring from writing for Model world.
I have always looked forward to reading his column and have learnt a lot over the years. Hopefully his replacement will be as good.

i heard this a while ago from the horses mouth. it will be a loss to the modelling press, but i know it has been a lot of hard work for many years. im sure alasdair will still be around and contactable for answering those tricky question on aerodynamics, and im sure he will be flying for many years to come  :af

until the RCMF Fly In!!

I am in agreement with Nick. Having known this was coming I still feel a sense of "gonna miss that". He is certainly not giving up model designing, building, and flying. I suspect he might just be reaching into new areas of model aircraft related activity.

No Rain, Light wind. Please :-)

I've only met Alistair a few times at watplane meetings, but you couldn't find a more genial chap and always willing to offer advice on request.

Where has all the BLOODY wind gone?

I've never met him, but he was very helpful with my first scratchbuild some years ago.

I've often read his column and marvelled at his knowledge and patience.  If he wants to retire, then I've nothing but best wishes for him!

His column was always one I took the time to read when I bought the magazine regularly.  His explanations were always worth reading and his book is equally readable - especially after ploughing through Martin Simon's erudite but somewhat dense 'Model Aircraft Aerodynamics' which I always felt was a bit beyond my pay grade :)

He'll be missed but will, hopefully turn up from time to time with one-off articles and/or designs.

Geoff

My first model was his Lone Ranger (free plan in RCMW)
Learnt to fly in no time as it was such a stable model.
I still have it buried in the loft somewhere, best wishes for his retirement.
