Has anyone had experiance of the covering films that HK sell, by the 5M roll?

It seems to be a good price and I am going to try it anyway, just wondered if anyone has used it and what they thought comparing it to profilm?

Thank in advance

Scott

Not me personally, but a mate of mine bought some and said it's not worth the saving.

I have tried it and it's absolute rubbish. I bought a couple of rolls of red and it was horrid to use, Carp finish, white stress marks appeared in it. A million miles away from the the quality of oracover/profilm

I've used it, and as long as you don't go silly and try and put too much heat on it, it works fine. If you go silly with the temp, or trying to remove wrinkles from a poorly attached piece, the edges can creep back slightly and expose the white backing. Not a dilemma as this can easily be removed with a bit of meths.

The price of covering in the UK is a joke, which is why I bought a load of the covering from HK. When I had to recover my funfly due to a crash, it wouldn't have been worth it using profilm as buying 2 contrasting colours would have put me at almost 70% of the cost of the kit (which ironically is covered in Profilm !)

I've used all the film coverings and I would put it between solafilm and profilm. You can be a bit more rough than you can be with solafilm, but it will not take the abuse that profilm will take when applying.

I'm really happy with mine. I bought a load of colours, including chequers which all came in 10m rolls. For the same price as maybe 8m of Profilm, I've got more than 50m of covering which does the job perfectly.

The Giant Cod stuff is probably the same stuff. For the sake of a few quid, buy some and try it for yourself.

Cheers,

Simon

I've got a roll of 'Amber' on order, I'm hoping it will be somewhere near the orangey-yellow  on my old YT Dragon Lady.  ordered a week ago, still showing as 'reserved' ::)

flying's easy - it's getting it back down in one piece that's the hard part

Chinese new year has slowed up HK more than normal this year. They posted some stuff out to me a couple of weeks ago and still no sign yet. It will get here once they stop enjoying themselves  :af

I recently got a roll of their black. Went on ok and seems to do the job.
It's not a model I'm particularly precious about and I did it quick.

Seems fit for purpose. Wil be getting more in the near future.

I have used the stuff a few times and while not exactly up to profilm or solarfilm standards at that price I dont care.
If only someone came out with a Tex covering that dosnt cost 6.25 a meter  >:(
Here are a couple of models I used Hobby King film on.

Is this the same stuff as sold by the Huge Haddock? If it is then I probably won't bother buying. There some favourable comments on the GC site though,  so I thought I'd ask.........

P.S. You could use nylon off the roll Seamus. Not as quick or as easy to put on as Tex, and does require doping/finishing. It is extremely robust though.

Westmorland Model Flyers (Scratch built models preferred, but artf's if you really must)
Windermere Model Waterplane Flyers

At least if/when you crash you won't need a bag for the bits.  :''

Electrickery is the work of the devil,  proper aeroplanes are powered by engines.

Do where do you get your omega 3 from?!

They look nice, it's on order now, so I'm going to give it a go. If it's Carp, I haven't lost much and I think it would be worth a try.

I'm not a fish eater either Seamus, but the Giant Cod site (aka known as RC Supplies) is a popular haunt for those whom fly electric models. There's also a fair collection of items used by i.c. flyers, such as fuel tanks, covering etc.....
