RCMF page layout
« on: April 09, 2012, 13:19:26 PM »
The main screen has started to get narrower and narrower with the adverts on the left and the shout box on the right.

I clicked on the (-)minus button and the left one disappeared but now I cant get it back as the minus button now only works the right hand panel.

I would like to keep the left panel but get rid of the right.

You're lucky - I can't get rid of the LH panel  ::)

But it would be useful to be able to toggle it off while reading through a long thread, no?

No. It's a purely commercial decision and the price to be paid for a free-to-use service.

I completely understand and appreciate the need for side-bar advertising.  All I'm suggesting is that it would be useful to toggle it off while "in thread".  Could it be set up to default back again when a thread is left?  Just a thought to make the browsing a little more convenient...

Yes that was the reason I got rid of it before, especially when people post pictures full size and dont use the thumbnail option, it is a real pain with half the picture showing.

I dont use the shout box so the right panel is now gone and I am happy with just the left one.  Actually with the right panel gone it is a nice balance and decent thread width for easy reading.

On my IPad I am getting both left and right columns. I can close the right panel with the " - " button, but when I open a new page it comes back. How can I get rid on a more permanent basis, as it is a right pain on an iPad.

Why oh why do we have to keep having this same debate.  It is the way it is and it's that way for a reason.  Do you complain to Amazon for example if the exact page layout is not to your personal liking?

I'm not complaining. I fully understand the need for the adverts and have never switched off the left column, but up until a couple of days ago the right column (shout box) was switched off and I turned it on. Since then, if I switch it off It switches back on when I open another page. This doesn't happen on my PC where it wouldn't be a problem and I do leave it switched on, most of the time. On the iPad it means you only have a very narrow column for the forum threads.

Personal settings for the right column are stored on your device as a cookie. The issue is with security settings on your device. Try resetting them to default.

On the iPad the top one is well in,  next three have to scroll quite a bit and the bottom just a tiny bit.
On my PC the top one is full width and the others are all well in. Screen res is 1680 x 1050

None of them on my normal (this) monitor.  But if I viewed it on my old steam-driven laptop, then probably most!  (But I only really use the old laptop for watching the live timing screens when watching F1.)

You must have something blocking those ads then. I presume you still see the forum menus down the left.

Looks to me like the left sidebar is totally missing and even if it were a blocker you would still expect to see the outlines.  Never seen anything like it before.
