2M mouldie without a V tail
« on: April 23, 2012, 08:33:21 AM »
I am looking for a 2M mouldie with as standard or cross tail
Like:
Typhoon
Alex XL x
Luna
BUT I dont want an all moving elevator, and for some reason they all have them, please lets not get in to a massive debate about all moving Vs not, It's just personal preference
Any ideas ?

Schwing 88,designed by the genius Mr Hammond...no AMT there, new fresh design..I would have had one if it was available when I bought my v3....However I am totally pleased with the v3..a credit to its design...Chris.T

PS..OK I know its 2.2m but  that should be  close enough with the spec you require.Oh and you might have a little wait, but I think it will be worth it.

Here's the link..    http://www.sloperacer.co.uk/_content/schwing88.asp

PPS..also,if you can get over your aversion to AMT I can certainly recommend the Luna 2 as well.Had it 2yrs now and it gets better every flight..or is that me :af

I can't think of one off the top of my head other than the as yet unavailable schwing 88.

I've flown the typhoon (got one in fact) and the alex xl (albeit briefly) - the pitch response is not lacking on either. Nor is it on the Luna of course.

Maybe I should have just said  2-2.5m
and under £300

I just dont like all moving tails, feels like a rear wheel steer car lol
as I said nothing wrong with them I just would prefer a conventional tail

because there's a lot of 2.5m mouldies <= £300........  ;)  I think you might be struggling here dude. IIRC Tony was talking about £450 for the swing when it comes out.

You might have to go smaller like the t-tailed mini dragon. Actually that gets me thinking, there is a model called a Twin by valenta which is a 1.9m T tail I think.  There used to be a few at my club, but I am trying to remember if it has a rudder. Not recommending the model, just springs to mind (can't really remember how they fly one way or the other). I've always thought mini dragons were good.

Nearly did 3 times  lol

but although I know it's gonna be great it's just to much cash for a 1.5m

I'm still very keen on the Alex xl x if I cant get away from the all moving tail

If you don't mind 2.3M - a bit bigger - then talk to Tony Fu.

Cheers,

Still really like the Alex xl x, added to cart a few times but then thought maybe not
and there is the Xmodels sword, they do a 2m with a one piece wing  $%&

Slightly OT, but why do AMTs dominate? It could be aerodynamic, but I wonder if it's not mainly practicality - those big fuses are a lot easier to store without the stab fixed in place...

maybe cost / scrap too.
plus you dont have to get the incedence correct.

Some of the elevator modles on the market make me nervous. Take the needle, 2 pieve with 2 pins in the main stab and 1 in the elevator, and the linkage via the elevator pin.
Sounds good but all looks a bit fragile, interested to hear how they stand the test of time, ware and tear etc etc.

After a lot of research I have ordered a Xmodels Sword 1.9DS
This come with a one piece wing, so no dodgy joiner and I love the look

Good choice : I've got the 1.9m Blade which AFAIK has the same wing. No wipers in the hinges so the scream on a fast pass is excellent  :co

yes it does
But as it would seem I would need to spend 200 quid more for an elevator I'm sure I can live with it  :P

Is'nt the Blade a v?
So if your prepared to compromise on a blade why not a Luna or Typhoon?

Evening, thats just like the one Ive got propped up in the corner of the bedroom !

Your thread got me to actually start putting it together, bit awkward as my building has to be done in the bedroom so i cant leave it out, unless we sleep on the floor !
I agree its a bit short on accesories & instructions, but I think its alot better manufactured & feels a lot stronger than the sunbird I had.
Im going to use hs125 for the ailerons & flaps & hs65mg for the rudder & elevator.
r.

I have 125s for the wings and 85s for the fuse and am going for a 5x1600mAh 2/3AA 6V rx pack
Just put some carbon cloth in the servo bays and the servo frames  :af
