This trim was far enough forward to stop the ESC arming on switch-on. I have a side-button set as a kill switch, so I was using that to shut off the throttle and to allow the ESC to arm, but I'd forgotten all about it. So there was actually nothing wrong with anything but the prat holding the Tx - if I'd set the kill switch before connecting the battery it would have worked, and I would have both had a decent day of flying AND not wasted 90 mins messing about testing stuff!DUH!!PDR
