depron capiche 1.40EX
Its incredibly light, mostly 3mm depron was used all over, but heres the main thing....its as straight as a die, and theres hardly no twist anywhere!!

Its a little bigger than a 140 capiche as its wing span is 83". And the fus is bigger than a 2.6mtr raven!

It has 2 wing positions, 1 for F3A type and one for 3D.

Its even got a swept back UC!

Lipo will be a flightpower 20S 5S 3600mah
will be flying on futaba mini digi servos

built the same as the wooden one but replacing the wood with depron so strength is still there

nearly ready

The tail/rudder are 6mm. The wing is a composite of hollow 6mm surrounded by 3mm sheet over each side. Also has 2x full length 6mm carbon tube spars in each wing, which double up as the joiner tubes, as 3mm rods slip into them to hold the wings to the fus.

Now heres the even better news, the digi scales read:

Fus/tail/rudder etc (everything part from spats/wheels) = 310g
Wings = 250g
Battery pack = 250g
Speed controller = 50g
Servos = 70g
Rx = 60g
UBEC = 10g

Which comes to exactly 1kg! All thats left is the motor/prop and wiring. I'm aiming for 300g for the motor and another 200g for extras (wires/prop/control lines)

Therefore the finished weight should be around 1.5kg! Or 3.3lb!!!

in the chosen scheme using lightweight vinyl

Power is 925W at full! Which is unreal considering it only needs 650W for 3d!

another

elevators and rudder are both closed loop for very precise control...we hope

size compared to 2.6m raven fuzz.

test flight coming up v.soon hopefuilly...all ready to rock and roll, just waiting for the weather.

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Alan

Nice. Can you fold it up and put it in the car?

Seriously, I think depron has been very under used. Imagination like this will soon see 'proper' depron models becoming a common sight.
I dunno...

Cactus

is that your elevator servo by the canopy?
i know it's a depron model but those surfaces are still the same size...

hope it's got more power than it looks to have.

That is an inspiration. I can almost "feel" the lightness. What motor though?

yeah thats the elevator servo, the model is A LOT lighter than the other wooden one so their is less stress on the servos...also the micro digi's weigh less than the standard sized.

so basically its overpowered if anything  ::)
as for motor...its 1 of those cheap tower pro things, the biggest 1 they do with a hyperion 80A speedo

Ok the servos are Futaba Digi minis. They are over 3kg torque, and for model which weighs 1.6kg and will fly at a snails pace are much more than adequate ( have the same servos on the elevators of much bigger glow 3d models)

The servos just look small because its a MASSIVE model ;)

As for power hopefully i wont be far away from 3:1!

Fantastic project which has yielded one of the most unique models in years IMO.

Thanks Andy

sounds fair enough.
was just thinking the weight of the model isn't too important, it should be able to fly as fast as the glow versions and the surfaces be under just as much stress given their the same size all be it slightly lighter.

nice project tho.
gonna be out anywhere this year?

Giving its low weight and 3D in mind, there will be no fast flying. Will all be on the stall stuff nice and low, just how i like to fly.

Will be taking to all the shows, starting with our 3DRC Freestyle Festival this weekend
