Do you chaps know of any good proven plans for this WW1 bipe.

Would like it to be reasonably big say 60" plus span for  120 FS.

I don not mind the work but would like a good scale appearance.

Clive-

Radio Control Scale Quarterly, Spring 1989 had TWO Albatros plans, one a full size pull out by Mike Booth, 60" span for a .60 and the other a plan feature for a 1/4 scale 84" model for a 1.20 designed by Bib Hutton.

I have the magazine if you want further details.

 Clive,
Here"s my 65" Funaero Albatros.....this is a lasr cut kit, from Mike and Jan Bell, superb build, and a great flying model..with parts for the dummy engine as well!!....I"ve a 90 fourstroke which is plenty, with the DV, you loose a good deal of prop with the spinner...so go for a biggish diameter poss etc.
I"m sure Mike would send you a plan by itself?...but...I"m not 100% sure, if the formers are on the plan.....if your going for 120 power..why not go a stage further..and hop up to 1/4 scale?
The spinner pictured is supplied with the kit...although, a spinner to suit any size Albatros is available from Arizona Models....

here"s a link to the funaero site..
 www.funaero.com
.. it also has a 60 DII....same as the DV..only with twin struts...

also..I"ve 3-views....and a lot of other stuff on the DV if you need some motivation..!...lovely looking, instantly recognisable plane...I love it!

  Cliff  :)

Gentlemen.
                excellent feedback thank you.
Dave can you give me more detail re the Mag article   plan numbers etc as I can then try further web searches.  A 60 " sounds nice is it possible to copy the plans, I would p[ay of course.

Cliff thanks for the site info I will check it out and compare against the above before i make a decission.
I do like the look of yours though, that is a very convincing argument for having one.

Thanks again
Regards Clive

Clive, I now have the magazine and plan in front of me. No plan number, I am afraid. I can scan the mag. article, but the plan is rather too large a sheet for that. I do not know whether it was/is available from Nexus later or not, some free plans were, others not.

Shall I postpone the scanning? I had to work today so haven't done it yet, and he computer may well be going off in soon as there is thunder rumbling around here again.

  • Clive, I now have a building bench and have ordered some balsa, so I now have TWO things to do during the long winter days & nights. :)

Mag and plan will go back in the box, still available if you need anything at any time. I have a LARGE collection of magazines & plans, most of which are catalogued. That was the result of a winter when I didn't have anywhere to build!

     Hi Zakk,
I can"t remember exactly how much...but, for what you get, great fitting kit..great flyer....I remember not being pleased about the customs bill..but again..can"t remember how much!..
..but....it is worth getting your hands on one of these, and the owners, Jan and Mike bell are first class people to deal with  :)

Found this old  D3 plan by M Hawkins deep in my collection.

    Regards, Dennis.
Ps , Love that Funaero model of Cliffs.Whats the damage as a direct import Cliff ?( You can of course reserve the right not to answer that question ! )

Dennis, i honestly can"t remember the amount...but, I do remember being angry at the customs...I"d say in the region of about 40-50!, but this is off the top of my head.
I also think Mike, at Funaero, can blow up a plan as well.....he"s done this with his SE5A....wonder would they do it with the DVA?..an 80" version of this would be first class.  :af
