What do you use for glueing the frames to the canopy Wayne?

I now tend to use 5 min epoxy. As long as you rough up the surface and test fit etc then you will avoid those sticky moments when you get finger prints over you crystal clear canopy.

I will sometimes pin the canopy by drilling a few small holes and inserting cocktail stock through, it adds extra purchase..

I have used Canopy glue in the past...its a case of what ever you feel comfortable working with I guess..

Just about finished now and ready for spraying.  Underside of wing already sprayed.

Front canopy glued in place and as you can see Pilot tried for size...as requested Clive !

I have drilled some holes under where the exhaust stacks will go to give extra ventilation through the engine bay.
and drilled holes for idle valve and fuel filler tube.

Just need to check if over spraying will hide existing letters...May need to wet and dry the edges a little.

    Final stages now before weathering.

Fuz masked and sprayed tonight... am very pleased with the way its come out...

Sprayed the Brown first .. then the Green.

Tomorrow I will spray the new lettering and also the Green and Brown on the top of the wing.
Then its just a case of weathering which will only take a couple of days.

Late night last night in the Garage....Some pics before I took of the top of the wing now Sprayed and placed under the Fuz ...

Its hard to see the rivet and panel detailing on the wing in the pics but when weathered these will stand out well.

    Jobs today....
Tidy up around the wheels and Oleos where there is a little overspray...
    Put aircraft serial number on
    Complete stencil work,
    Weathering
Pilot and cut spinner for Prop.

Still need to get an adaptor nut for the Spinner...but hopefully a friend of mine who has the capability will do for a couple...

then final connection and Installation of reciever, Nav and Strobe light boxes and then engine test...

    nearly there now...

Stencils were done for me of by a chap off here but will be making them myself soon when I get the gear...He had a set of standard Hurricane ones he had done for his own hurry so we Chatted and he very nicely sent me a set...They are very accurate but fiddly so may not be using them all... would be good if they could be produced as waterslide or dry rub decals...I may look into it for future builds.

Wings finished today...Weathered top and bottom and two light coats of fuel proofer.

You can't see the weathering that well in these pics...maybe it will show up more in day light...

Nice job Wayne...really nice....I hope I can make mine look some where near the standard of yours. Still, your customer is going to love it.

I asked you a while back about the dimensions of the canopy /seat frame work.....I take it the pilot is one of those Elite Forces/Dargoon type chaps at around 1/6th scale?

Sorry greyfly... Have attached a pic with measurements hope that will do. The pic does not give the true appearance of how the framework tapers from back to front and top to bottom.
The seat is made to fit between the tubes and sit at aprox the right height on the bulkhead in the cockpit... again all relative to the room you have and how scale size you want it to look.

Hope fully the pics I posted earlier in the thread show this..
Yes the pilot was a Dragon 1/6 scale figure but have taken the head, hands and boots off and replaces the torso, arms and legs with foam.....not that they are particularly heavy figures but this will cut the weight down even more.
he fits in the seat without any trouble... you just have to shorten the legs slightly..

    Hope this helps.

Thats looking really nice Wayne - I wish I had the time you seem to have to work on my Spit Smiley

I'm about to prime the wheel well liners, but can you tell me what the final colour would have been? I'm kind of assuming Chromium Green, but perhaps I'm wrong?  What do you do yours in?

Are you on about the YT Mk.XIV/XIX ?

Well there has been a lot of arguments over the years between people over what the actual colour was...I remember entering a 1/32 scale plastic model Kit comp when I was about 17 and comming second to a guy who had his Interior green... Angry Angry

Certainly on early spits it use to be doped aluminium but later on it was usually the same colour as the underside... although I know the LF Mk XVIe at Cosford has hers a rather odd shade of some kind of interior green and I have seen pics of the Yellow Aircraft Spit with Interior Green ones too?!

Personally I would go for the same colour as the underside.

I know on the Hurri I used a dark Grey.. I might re-spray yet?!

Cheers for that - its primed in light grey, so maybe I'll just leave it as that for now.  Yes, the YT Spit - I think the underside is Sea Grey?
Did you contour the Hurri wheel covers in the end?  They look a great fit.

yes I did....Martin gave me a good tip...and that was to heat the covers and bend them on the edge of a bench until cool... they keep the shape very well and won't coarse as much drag now.

Looks stunning. Congrats! The only thing that spoils it a little is the wire tail wheel leg, but other than that, lovely finish on one of my favourite WW2 fighters. Can't wait to see some flying pics.

Yes very nice Wayne. Thanks for sharing your skills with us.
I particularly like the weathering on the upper wing surfaces (the gun hatch covers?).

Cheers Guys Happy to share with you ...

Army_Air_Force  - Yes I agree with you and may try something before the customer picks it up but the issue with the tailwheel is that it has a cover that goes over the wire with just a hole in it... Unless you make this hole a lot bigger there is no way of keeping the tailwheel steerable and have it looking scale using the existing set up....watch this space though...

Any Flying shots will have to be posted by the Customer I'm afraid..I will only run the engine up and Balance to where I would have her set up.....its up to him to test fly her !.

Do you have any record of how much time you've put into the kitbash?

Crikey! I only spent about 550 building Ali's Tigercat! The customer should be really pleased with it. Would love to see it next to an unmodified kit.

Yey at last  Roll Eyes  I agree on the tailwheel. Same junk thats on my LA-7. Shame really as it really does detract from a great looking model. If you come up with any solutions then please feel free to let me know

Sorry Ali... Been very busy at work as well so not been able to send anywhere near the time I usually spend on Building...

    On the job now though..

A solution fo rthe tailwheel would be to replace the wire with the steerable LAreg Scale ones.. Notthe Metal ones the plasic ones that you get that are steerable..I have one here will try and see if its possible to adapt one.
