Thanks, I have sent you a PM with the necessary details

What would the recommended petrol powerplant for this one be? Is there a radial engine out there that would fit in the cowl with the extra little bit of power to make simple aerobatics like hammerheads, teardrops, and humpty bumps look good?

I finished my LA7 last week. Sorry no build thread but I will try to take some photos, and for any of you building one feel free to post your questions here and I will be happy to help.
     Regards Al
I fitted an evolution 40 cc petrol engine. I can see its going to be overpowered so I will be using a fair bit of throttle and speed management.  It fitted pretty well with only a small part of the cylinder head/ plug cap sticking out and the exhaust tubes.  I am now waiting for some extra weathering work to be done and that should really bring it to life, then hopefully if the weather clears I can get some flights logged.

Cheers Ali will do that then...

One thing looking at all my Ref material is how void of surface detail the real thing was / is and consequently how difficult it is to find any decent pics of one that has any weathering at all...

Will have my work cut out with this and trying to do something with those huge wings.  Wink  Whistle
Sure I will come up with something though/

Dont forget,  the LA-7 was an all wooden aircraft,  dont start rivet detailing the wings!!!         i am asuming the wings would have been ply covered,   these would have been nailed or glued on, or both,     apart from gun hatches etc,  there would not have been much detail,     i would keep it to a general dirty wash, and exhaust stains,      cant see there being much else,

do a google images search, there is about 20+pages

I though the big change with the LA-7 was that it had metal wings as opposed to the all wood construction of the LA-5....?

Here's a link to some walkaround photos of an LA-7 in a museum in Russia:

Indeed Martin some great shots and lots of info...

Thats one of my ref sources I already have thanks BB-Q but it does confirm what Al was saying its all wood apart from the cockpit fwd. You can see on the wing shots where the covering and paint has crazed... Don't you just love the quality of work though?  Shocked Shocked Grin (Not)

I did some measuring last night.....
The diameter of the cowl opening is 148mm.

Looking at the Dave Anderson plans and scaling them to the correct size for the 148mm cowl diameter it looks like  the correct diameter will be 111 mm.  As usual we are between standard sizes!  I will most likely go for the 115mm (4.5") spinner.

Now the shape........ Again it is neither a parbolic  nor standard.....  maybe parabolic will look the least wrong.

i want to make an recommendation to the designers/ manufacturers of these great scale kits.....

it cannot be that much more expensive to make these in equal quantities to the kits.
Please include a correct size and shaped spinners with all the models that require them.  If somebody want to use something different then it is their choice.

    Hi

I am interested in the LA-7. Does anybody know the next delivery from overseas?
