The real benefit of Mr. Benny Factor's generosity is that it looks as though I don't have to open a Facebook account! Also, I had clean forgotten Flying Sites, although I have now discovered that I actually joined it in 2003! - looks like a second string to the bow.

As I have posted recently. since Veronica died I have had bad days and worse days. The news that, thanks to some kind soul, RCMF will continue makes this the nearest approach to a good day that I have had since that awful day in January.

Hi Wiz and Co.
Having been with this forum since October 2002, my recent posts have been, to say the least sporadic, I have always admired the way Wiz and the mods have run this board and I keep an eye on RCMF regularly. To say I was saddened by the recent announcement would be an understatement and now so pleased to hear the good news.

Rather like Wiz (perhaps) my enthusiasm for the sport "ebbs and flows" and sometimes I just need a break..... Got my mojo back just recently with the purchase of a couple of new trannys, so I am back into it.

As mentioned earlier in this thread by other members, I too would be quite happy to donate to keep RCMF alive, it's part of the furniture for me !

Keep up the good work !

frank.

It was a long time ago and, honestly, I can't remember what the spat was about?  I was far more uptight back then.

Noone says you have to be the guy you were 10 minutes ago, let alone 5 years ago. Life is a learning curve, and sometimes events get the better of even the kindest of souls. I wouldn't be too hard on myself if I were you, there are many others - including myself - who wish they'd simply "let things go" at times....

It's how you act in the future that counts.  :af

Can I just say that the thing I was going to miss most of all about this forum was this:  :D I love that little thing.  :study:

The most wonderful news.
We have all had a big shock, it has always been there for us since it's inception, it got to the stage were we all were a tad blase and took it for granted, knowing hard work was done behind the scenes but not to what extent. It is now up to the members, embrace it, cherish enjoy and support it. I find it sad Nigel could not say or ask for help before making his decision, I, and I'm sure others, would not have d wished you to be out of pocket mate. I am all for a registration fee, even an annual DD to maintain the site.
It's up to us now chaps, balls in our court, think of all the fun we have had,the feel good factor of helping Maz and helping Mike and others through their most difficult times.

And that is what's special about this place.   As well as some ace threads on toy aeroplanes, large and small (Who can forget Phil's Skyraider Masterclass?) and new techonolgy diversions like Mr Jolly's skirmishes with 3D modelling,  reminiscences on Phantom Mites, Jetex 50s and Nitrex 15 and maybe one or two diversions into other worlds (anyone like old British bikes?) it's the sort of stories that John mentioned to which I would specifically also add the Steamy ones' terrible story and the amazing way he dealt with it that make RCMF so different.

Perhaps the motto should be "Big enough to matter, small enough to care"  $%&

Find a suitable funding model and I'll be chipping in :af

The exact details are lost in the mists of time...  But there was, some years ago, an appeal for cash to help fund the forum, as a result of which I've been happily paying a very modest sum annually - I think it's a tenner?  So the mechanism exists,  somewhere!  It comes out of my paypal account if that helps trigger any memories!

Folks,

We do have a ring-fenced account with HSBC so for anyone who would like to make a donation, SO or whatever the details are:-

Bank: HSBC
Account name: RCMODELFLYERS
Sort Code: 40-24-12
Account number: 21408216

Unfortunately we don't have PayPal account ring-fenced at the moment, I don't think?  I'll check.  If feel ever so much like begging to me but, as they say, every little helps.

Delighted to see there has been a reprieve. Note that last word !

The site nearly died. Whilst Wiz's time commitments are a major factor, combining that with having to subsidise the site financially tipped the balance towards oblivion.

In another life, in a galaxy far away, I was a member of another, totally unrelated site which faced a similar fate. The site owner couldn't support the site financially, so I bunged some money into the site and it survived - for a while. Then it failed. Why ?  Because people didn't contribute their posts, they visited but didn't post.

Sites live or die for two main reasons. Cost and content.

This site now has had a lifeline thrown to it on the financial front. So we now have a couple of years to get the content right again -threads like  the Black Sheep thread are what we need, friendly banter, build threads, discussions over how/what  we fly (or don't), opportunities to meet.

Advertising needs viewers, if ten people visit the site per day it doesn't take a genius to realise paying good money to advertise isn't going to butter the proverbial parsnips. If 100 visit, perhaps the parsnips get the butter. People visit because there is interesting content.

We can't help but suffer the consequences of the ARTF version of life. Click, click, get an instant fix, don't build, buy. Don't think, google.

So if you want to see this site continue, participate, contribute and stay away from Facebook etc where the "site" will fade as soon as something more transiently interesting flits past.

Confucious he say "more than one aircraft in the same airspace leads to structural failure"

For those that have asked, I have now set up a dedicated RCMF Paypal account and installed a donations button at the top of each page.

PDR has wisely suggested we create a little team of "Trustees" who can keep an eye on the finances and help set a strategy etc. going forward so we, hopefully, never have to face this situation again.  Personally I've always felt I was the weakest link in that if anything happened to me the bills stop getting paid and it all goes up in a metaphorical puff of smoke.  I think by establishing "Trustees", that situation can be avoided.  Very sensible suggestion Mr PDR!

I think I said "Trustys" rather than Trustees, based on those likely to be given the role:

I have made a very small donation and have sent it direct to the Bank as PayPal take commission off, so all the money goes to RCMF and I suggest others do it the same way to avoid loss.

And I don't see any problem with "rattling the bucket" once a year in my mind it is not begging Wiz!

And with that thought in mind - while hunting and cataloguing plans a few weeks ago I came across a plan for a 1/10th scale Hurricane which I drew up (loosely based on the shapes of a single-channel model) and built for an OS40FSR back in 1980ish.

It came out at around 50", which is not far off the size of the Ripmax Spit, so I have concluded that with a bit of lightening it should go well with a 400w electric setup (an Axi 2820/10 on 3s or similar). It has the advantage of not needing a moulded canopy as well. We don't often see Hurricanes modelled (not as often as other warbirds, anyway) so as I may have a slot in a few weeks time when I can do some building, I intend to have a bash.

Would a 50" Hurricane appeal as a build thread?

But of course and I'm sure a certain Mr Goff would be very pleased to see the result taking off from the Tibenham runway during the BoB in September.
I appreciate that would lead to a traversal of the Meridian for you Pete but you have to live dangerously occasionally  :nananana:

One thing we could all do is post links to interesting threads on to facebook, may get some new blood onboard.  :af

Well as I wasn't thinking of giving it an undercarriage I would be stunned to see that as well! :)

I just need to find some templates for a Clark YH at 19% and 12%...

These days life is very dangerous - has been for over a year as I now spend four days a week north of the wall helping the Wildlings develop their white dragon defences.

Mind you, as a result I'm Marriott Platinum with more points than a speeding footballist so our next couple of holidays are taken care of...

Nigel, just got back from hospital having injection in my eyeball, thought I would share that, and off for two weeks in Devon tomorrow. When we return will set up a SO for you.
Your reconsideration is appreciated by many. :af :af
